The Northeast Region experiences the effects of the Atlantic Ocean along its eastern coast and the Great Lakes to the west. This region has a humid continental climate. The summers here are generally warm to hot and humid. The winters in this region are cold to very cold and certain areas and elevations can have a lot of snow. Some southern parts of the region have a humid subtropical climate with hot and humid summers and mild to cold winters. This region has beautiful changing fall foliage every autumn starting in late September and continuing through October and this would be an especially lovely time to camp and enjoy the colors. The KOA campgrounds in this region have the amenities to make your camping trip a great experience.
This region boasts some very large metropolitan areas and cities as well as some beautiful natural features and the coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. Nine of the original thirteen colonies are in this region, so there is a lot of history and important historical sites to visit. The nation's capital, Washington, D.C., is also in the Northeast Region. The northern part of this region shares a border with Canada, specifically the provinces of New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario. Two of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, are also bordering this region and Niagara Falls is right between them on the Niagara River. In Maine, you will find Acadia National Park, the only national park in the Northeast Region. In New Hampshire, you can visit the White Mountain National Forest and White Mountain area with attractions like the Conway Scenic Railroad, Mount Washington Cog Railway, Story Land amusement park and the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway. Massachusetts is home to Boston and the Freedom Trail route. The smallest state, Rhode Island, is also known as "The Ocean State," and has a lot of beaches along the Atlantic shoreline. Vermont is very well-known for the stunning fall foliage and is a popular place for leaf-peepers. You can also visit the Ben and Jerry's Factory Tour and Ice Cream Shop in Vermont. New York is home to the most populated city in the United States, New York City, and the many sights there, including the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Central Park, Times Square and the Empire State Building. Upstate New York has a variety of outdoor features, waterfalls, lakes and state parks such as Letchworth, Watkins Glen and Finger Lakes State Parks. Visit New Jersey for many fun boardwalks and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Connecticut has a great historical seaport village area to visit, Mystic Seaport, and the Mystic Aquarium and Institution for Exploration. In Delaware, visit the coastal preserve and old military base Cape Henlopen State Park and Delaware Seashore State Park. You can visit Baltimore and the Inner Harbor in Maryland and the National Aquarium. Pennsylvania also has a lot of sights and attractions, you can visit Philadelphia and the Liberty Bell or Hershey Park family theme park. Also in Pennsylvania, you can visit Presque Isle State Park, a peninsula along the Lake Erie shoreline or Valley Forge National Historical Park or Gettysburg National Military Park.
