In the Northwest Region, weather conditions along the Pacific Ocean coastline are generally mild year-round, with wet, rainy winters and dry summers. In comparison, the eastern side of the region beyond the Cascade Mountain Range has colder winters, hotter summers, and an overall dryer climate. The high elevations of Idaho in the Rocky Mountains can have unpredictable weather and cooler temperatures year-round. This region has many KOA campgrounds open all year or with early spring to late fall camping seasons and with the mild climate, there are lots of opportunities to camp here through the year.
The Northwest Region, often called the Pacific Northwest, includes the coasts of Washington and Oregon and mountain ranges and farmland in those states and in Idaho. In the northern Washington coast area, you will find the Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. The Oregon Coast offers miles of beautiful coastline and beaches sprinkled with charming towns along the way. The natural beauty of the area and evidence of past volcanic activity is on display in the four national parks within the region, three in Washington; Olympic National Park, North Cascades National Park, Mount Rainier National Park, and Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. Separating a portion of Oregon and Washington is the Columbia River and on the Oregon side, you will see the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and Multnomah Falls, the tallest waterfall in the state. Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve in Idaho shows the lava flows and fields from lava eruptions through fissures and vents from years ago. Through southern Idaho and into Oregon, you will find stops from the historic Oregon Trail. In Idaho's panhandle area, you can enjoy Lake Coeur d' Alene or travel further south near the Oregon border to the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area around the Snake River. Major metropolitan areas in this region include Seattle/Tacoma areas and Spokane, Washington as well as Portland, Oregon and Boise, Idaho.

The West Region transitions from the Pacific Ocean coast into desert areas in California and Nevada. The California coastline experiences a pleasant moderate Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and wet, mild winters. Summer is mostly very hot and dry in inland California and Nevada and much of the area here is desert and semi-arid climate. Nevada is the driest state in the United States. Drought conditions can occur in the West Region. Higher elevations in this region experience cooler temperatures and snow in winter months. Most of the KOA campgrounds in this region are open all year or have very long operating seasons. The excellent climate and the high number of sunny days here allow for camping in this region throughout the year.
The West Region includes the states of California and Nevada. You can do a lot of exploring and adventuring in this region, there are ten national parks! They vary from parks featuring volcanic formations, incredible trees, deserts and islands. Great Basin National Park is in Nevada. California boasts nine national parks, the most of any state. Here you will find Redwood and Lassen Volcanic National Parks in the northern area, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Pinnacles and Death Valley National Parks in the central California area and Channel Islands and Joshua Tree National Parks in Southern California. The West Region features lots of entertainment areas and cities; Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego and amusement parks including Disneyland, California Adventure, and Universal Studios. In California, you can also visit some iconic sites, including Hollywood and the Golden Gate Bridge. There are beaches and boardwalks along the entire California coast so there are plenty of ways to enjoy ocean time in this region, including surfing, swimming and beachcombing or you can spend time driving along the Pacific Coast Highway. Numerous outdoor activities will occupy you here such as hiking, camping and surfing. Lake Tahoe, on the California-Nevada border, is a popular recreation area. Other places to visit in Nevada include Valley of Fire State Park, Lake Mead National Recreation Area and Hoover Dam. Look for wildlife in this region in a state or national park or coastline or visit a zoo or aquarium for a closer view.

The states in this region experience the full four seasons every year. For the most part, they have continental climates where summers are hot and generally dry and winters are cold with snow covering the ground for much of the winter months. The plains areas in the eastern portion of the region have a semi-arid, continental climate. Nebraska has a semi-arid climate in the western part and a more humid continental climate in the eastern part. Camping is best in this region in the summer months and somewhat in the late spring and early fall seasons. The KOA campgrounds in this region have great amenities to make your camping experience comfortable and memorable.
This region contains a variety of geographical landscapes. In the west it contains mountainous areas of the Rocky Mountains in the states of Wyoming and Montana, then transitions into badlands areas and then into plains and grasslands as you continue east. This entire region is sparsely populated but has an expansive and vast landscape. There are plenty of beautiful wilderness areas, lakes for recreation and hiking trails in this western part of the region. Much of the land in the eastern part of the region is farmland. You will find some popular national parks in the Northern Rockies and Plains Region, as there are a total of six national parks. Montana is home to Glacier National Park and although Yellowstone National Park is located mostly in Wyoming, Montana has three entrances into the park as well. Wyoming is also home to Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole. In Wyoming, you can also visit Devil's Tower, the first United States national monument. Theodore Roosevelt National Park is in North Dakota. Two more national parks are in South Dakota, Badlands and Wind Cave National Parks. Another notable place in the region is Mount Rushmore National Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Scotts Bluff National Monument and Chimney Rock National Historic Site are two popular places to visit in Nebraska. The most populated cities in each state of these regions include; Omaha, Nebraska, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Fargo, North Dakota, Billings, Montana and Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The Southwest Region is mostly arid but also has a combination of climates due to varying elevations and landscapes including mountains, foothills, high deserts, high plains, plateaus and deep canyons throughout the area. The southern parts of the Southwest Region have the driest and hottest conditions of all the U.S. Regions. The higher elevations in the northern parts of the region in Colorado and Utah experience cooler temperatures and snow in the winter. Camping is great at a KOA campground in this region and most campgrounds are open year-round. Arizona especially is popular for snowbirds during the winter months.
This region offers plenty of outdoor experiences, there are thirteen national parks and many other recreational areas, national monuments and state parks here as well. You will find Utah's Mighty 5 national parks in this region; Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, and Zion National Park. In Arizona, visit Grand Canyon National Park, and Petrified Forest and Saguaro National Parks. In New Mexico, make a stop at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Colorado is home to four national parks, Rocky Mountain, Great Sand Dunes, Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Mesa Verde. You will find many ruins of ancestral native peoples in this region, including cliff dwellings and kivas.
The states in this region meet geographically in the Four Corners Monument area, where you can straddle all four of them at once. Popular stops in Arizona include Sedona, Tombstone, Antelope Canyon and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. New Mexico awes visitors with the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta held in early October every year. New Mexico is also where you will find several impressive national monuments; White Sands, Bandelier, Petroglyph and Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monuments as well as several national historic parks. In addition to all of Utah's national parks, there are great national monuments and state parks here too, including Grand Staircase-Escalante, Cedar Breaks, Natural Bridges and Dinosaur National Monument and Dead Horse Point State Park. Colorado has some interesting sights including Garden of the Gods National Natural Landmark, Colorado National Monument and Dinosaur National Monument. Major metropolitan areas in this region include Phoenix, Arizona, Salt Lake City, Utah, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Denver, Colorado. Skiing is popular in the winter months in Colorado and Utah.

The climate in this region varies from arid in the western parts to humid and subtropical in the eastern part. Winter is generally very mild in this region and summers are quite hot and there is a lot of humidity in the southern areas. The Gulf Coast area has very pleasant and mild winters and the Gulf of Mexico's warm waters greatly influence the climate in this region. This region's southeast section borders the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. This region is home to three National Parks, Big Bend and Guadalupe Mountains Natural Parks in Texas and Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas. Texas has a variety of activities and attractions from natural wonders to historic locations, museums and amusement parks. Visit San Antonio River Walk for strolling and dining, the Alamo historic site, Austin for the state capitol building and the music scene, Natural Bridge Caverns, or Space Center Houston during your Texas visit. In Oklahoma, the most populated areas are around Tulsa and Oklahoma City, where you can visit the Oklahoma City Zoo. Lake Eufaula is the largest reservoir in Oklahoma and offers lots of recreational opportunities. In Kansas, explore the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve or a zoo or museum. The largest city in Kansas is Wichita. In addition to Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas has other natural areas and parks as well as caves and caverns to explore. Visit Louisiana for delicious traditional food and culture, swampland, and make sure to spend time in New Orleans, the jazz music capital of the United States, and explore the French Quarter there. In Mississippi, you can visit the Gulf Islands National Seashore, the Vicksburg National Military Park and the birthplace of Elvis Presley in Tupelo.

This region has a climate consistent with continental to humid-continental climate. Summers are hot or very warm with higher humidity. The region experiences regular snowfall every winter with longer, cold temperatures. The snowfall is often very heavy due to the "lake effect" and increased moisture around the this Great Lakes area region. Late spring through fall is the best time to camp in the Upper Midwest Region. Camping in a cabin or RV at a KOA camprground in this region is a perfect way to explore the area, either in the warm summer months, or you will be comfortable during the cooler fringe camping seasons as well.
A large part of the Upper Midwest Region is made up of three of the Great Lakes and their surrounding coastlines. Lake Superior, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron border the states at the northern section of this region. These lakes offer numerous recreational opportunities and natural beauty to explore. Beaches and state parks dot the coastlines of the states surrounding these lakes. Two national parks are within this region. Isle Royale National Park is an island park within Lake Superior in Michigan state. Voyageurs National Park is located in northern Minnesota and is surrounded by four lakes. Voyageurs is comprised largely of water and shares some waterways with Canada. Known as "America's Dairyland," Wisconsin produces a lot of dairy products, especially cheese. Major cities in Wisconsin include Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay. Wisconsin Dells is known as the "Waterpark Capital of the World," and will not disappoint you with the quantity here.
Minnesota, "Land of 10,000 Lakes," has plenty of state parks and recreation areas. Most of the residents live in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area, also known as the Twin Cities. Michigan is made up of two peninsulas; the Lower Peninsula, and the Upper Peninsula. They are connected by the Mackinac Bridge where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron meet. Michigan has the longest freshwater coastline of all the states and offers numerous state parks and ways to enjoy the lakes, including a lot of recreational boating. The largest metropolitan area in Michigan is Detroit. In Iowa, make a visit to the "Field of Dreams" movie site or the famous covered bridges that inspired "The Bridges of Madison County" movie. Maquoketa Caves, Backbone, and Ledges are a few of the Iowa State Parks to visit during your time in Iowa. The capital and largest city is Des Moines--make sure to visit the Iowa State Fair if you are here during the fair's run in August.

The climate of the Midwest Region is a combination of humid continental to humid subtropical. The states that are predominantly humid continental, including Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, have hot and humid summers and cool to cold and snowy winters. West Virginia and Kentucky have humid subtropical climates, with long, hot and humid summers and a lot of precipitation throughout the year. Winters in these states are generally mild and cool. The KOA campgrounds in this region are open with extended seasons from early spring through late fall or open all year, so there are many opportunities to enjoy camping activities in this region.
The Midwest Region is surrounded by land with the exception of the northern borders of Illinois and Indiana at the southern tip of Lake Michigan and the northern border of Ohio on Lake Erie's shoreline. This region is a blend of highly populated metropolitan areas and various natural wonders to explore. In Missouri, explore a newly designated Gateway Arch National Park in St. Louis, a reflection on the role of this city in expanding the United States to the west. Lake of the Ozarks reservoir provides lots of recreational opportunities and Branson, Missouri is an entertainment area with numerous shows and amusement parks. Indiana is also home to the newest national park, Indiana Dunes National Park, along the southern shores of Lake Michigan. The Indianapolis Zoo and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home to the Indianapolis 500, are other popular draws located in this state. The major metropolitan area of Chicago, Illinois, is located on the southwest shore of Lake Michigan and here you can visit Millenium Park and the Magnificent Mile. Ohio is bordered by Lake Erie to the north and contains Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Major cities in Ohio include its capital Columbus, as well as Cleveland and Cincinnati. West Virginia has some great state parks to visit, including Blackwater Falls State Park, and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park for historical buildings and hiking trails. Kentucky is home to the famous annual Kentucky Derby horse race in Louisville. You will also find Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky.

Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont
The Northeast Region experiences the effects of the Atlantic Ocean along its eastern coast and the Great Lakes to the west. This region has a humid continental climate. The summers here are generally warm to hot and humid. The winters in this region are cold to very cold and certain areas and elevations can have a lot of snow. Some southern parts of the region have a humid subtropical climate with hot and humid summers and mild to cold winters. This region has beautiful changing fall foliage every autumn starting in late September and continuing through October and this would be an especially lovely time to camp and enjoy the colors. The KOA campgrounds in this region have the amenities to make your camping trip a great experience.
This region boasts some very large metropolitan areas and cities as well as some beautiful natural features and the coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. Nine of the original thirteen colonies are in this region, so there is a lot of history and important historical sites to visit. The nation's capital, Washington, D.C., is also in the Northeast Region. The northern part of this region shares a border with Canada, specifically the provinces of New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario. Two of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, are also bordering this region and Niagara Falls is right between them on the Niagara River. In Maine, you will find Acadia National Park, the only national park in the Northeast Region. In New Hampshire, you can visit the White Mountain National Forest and White Mountain area with attractions like the Conway Scenic Railroad, Mount Washington Cog Railway, Story Land amusement park and the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway. Massachusetts is home to Boston and the Freedom Trail route. The smallest state, Rhode Island, is also known as "The Ocean State," and has a lot of beaches along the Atlantic shoreline. Vermont is very well-known for the stunning fall foliage and is a popular place for leaf-peepers. You can also visit the Ben and Jerry's Factory Tour and Ice Cream Shop in Vermont. New York is home to the most populated city in the United States, New York City, and the many sights there, including the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Central Park, Times Square and the Empire State Building. Upstate New York has a variety of outdoor features, waterfalls, lakes and state parks such as Letchworth, Watkins Glen and Finger Lakes State Parks. Visit New Jersey for many fun boardwalks and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Connecticut has a great historical seaport village area to visit, Mystic Seaport, and the Mystic Aquarium and Institution for Exploration. In Delaware, visit the coastal preserve and old military base Cape Henlopen State Park and Delaware Seashore State Park. You can visit Baltimore and the Inner Harbor in Maryland and the National Aquarium. Pennsylvania also has a lot of sights and attractions, you can visit Philadelphia and the Liberty Bell or Hershey Park family theme park. Also in Pennsylvania, you can visit Presque Isle State Park, a peninsula along the Lake Erie shoreline or Valley Forge National Historical Park or Gettysburg National Military Park.

Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia
The Southeast Region has a humid, sub-tropical climate, with hot and humid summers and mild to cold winters. In the northern part of the region, Virginia often receives snow in the winter as well as the higher elevations in North Carolina. While most of Florida is in the same climate, the southern point does have a tropical climate, with hot temperatures throughout the year with only two seasons, wet and dry. Due to the favorable climate, camping is available later in the year or even year-round in this region. Snowbirds make their way to this region in the winter months to enjoy the warm weather and amenities offered by a KOA campground.
There is a lot to explore in the Southeast Region, and with the climate being so favorable throughout the year, you will find plenty of opportunities and locations to stay in the area to really enjoy it all. There are beaches and coastline surrounding the entire region as it is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico to the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Florida is home to three national parks, Dry Tortugas, Everglades and Biscayne National Parks. There are numerous places to explore wetlands, the shoreline or underwater habitats at these parks. Florida also offers a lot of amusement parks in the Orlando area, including Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios and SeaWorld. Key West and Miami are other popular destinations. While visiting Georgia, make a stop at the Georgia Aquarium. In Alabama, visit Gulf State Park along the Gulf of Mexico's shores. South Carolina coastline boasts the cities of Charleston and Myrtle Beach among others. In the middle of South Carolina, you can visit Congaree National Park, which has the largest old-growth cypress trees left along the eastern United States. Straddling the borders of Tennessee and North Carolina is Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most visited National Park in the United States. In Virginia, you can visit the historic Jamestown Settlement and Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia Beach and coastal areas or Shenandoah National Park and the Appalachian Trail in the western part of the state. Tennessee is known for its music contribution and scene in both Nashville and Memphis.

Alaska has a variable climate depending on the different areas of the state. Summer in Alaska is usually May through September, with May being the driest month. The KOA campgrounds in the Alaskan region are open during the May to September summer time frame and have all the amenities to make your Alaskan Region camping trip great. The winter months are approximately October through March, with snow and temperature variations depending on the area. Spring and fall are short seasons in this region with warm days yet cold nights. Some areas of this region receive very heavy snowfall in the winter while others receive very little.
Alaska is a massive state in size and contains wilderness, wildlife and beauty on a scale just as impressive. Alaska itself has five different regions; the northern Arctic, or Arctic Circle region, the Interior region landlocked in the middle of the state, the Southwest region containing the Kodiak Archipelago and the Aleutian Islands, the Southcentral region containing Anchorage and the Prince William Sound, and the Inside Passage region containing islands, fjords, wildlife, and the state's capital Juneau. The KOA campgrounds in the Alaskan Region are located in the Southcentral area of Alaska around the towns of Homer, Seward and Valdez. There are eight National Parks in the Alaskan Region that impress with outstanding scenery and wildlife. However, some are so remote that very few visitors actually get to see these parks. Kobuk Valley and Gates of the Arctic National Parks are in the Arctic Circle and have to be accessed by plane. Denali National Park is within the Interior and Southcentral Alaska regions and is the most visited National Park within Alaska. Denali is the tallest peak in North America at 20,310 feet high. Wrangell-St. Elias National Park is the largest national park in the United States and is located mostly in the Southcentral area of Alaska with a portion of the park in the Inside Passage area. In the Southcentral area, you can also visit Kenai Fjords National Park and Exit Glacier. Kodiak Island is in the Southwest area of Alaska, where you can visit Katmai National Park and Lake Clark National Park. Glacier Bay National Park is within the Inside Passage area.

New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island
The Atlantic Canada Region is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the climate can be humid and experiences significant precipitation. This region has climate types that vary from maritime to continental or humid continental climate. The temperatures are not extreme in this region, summers are generally cool and the winters are warmer than the inland Canada regions. The camping season is ideal here from May to late September and into mid-October. This region is composed of four provinces that are mostly islands and peninsulas on the northeast portion of Canada. This group of provinces is also known as the Maritimes or the Maritime provinces. They are surrounded by many waterways, including the Atlantic Ocean, Labrador Sea, Bay of Fundy, Gulf of St Lawrence and the Cabot Strait. With all of the water around this region, you can bet there is plenty of delicious seafood available. Nova Scotia is home to Halifax, the most populated city in the region. Travel on the scenic Cabot Trail around Cape Breton Island and explore Cape Breton Highlands National Park, an excellent park for hiking. Visit Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore for the expansive beaches and year-round surfing or Peggy's Cove Coastal Region and Lighthouse or Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site during your visit to Nova Scotia. New Brunswick is mostly dense forests so it has a bit different climate than the other provinces in this region. Areas of interest along the New Brunswick coastline include The Bay of Fundy, Fundy National Park and the Fundy Trail Parkway scenic coastal drive. Reversing Falls Rapids is a unique place to see rapids change course and direction with the tide changes in the Bay of Fundy and the Saint John River. Prince Edward Island is the smallest Canadian province by size. It is reached by several different modes of transportation, either by taking the ferry, by flying into the Charlottetown airport or driving across the Confederation Bridge from New Brunswick. Visit Prince Edward Island National Park or tour the Anne of Green Gables sites from the classic book all across the island. The province of Newfoundland and Labrador is made up of the mainland Labrador, to the northeast of Quebec, and the island of Newfoundland. On Newfoundland, visit the beautiful Gros Morne and Terra Nova National Parks. Several National Historic Sites can be found on Newfoundland; including Signal Hill, L'Anse aux Meadows, Castle Hill and Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Sites.

The Central Canada Region experiences a wide temperature range. The lower portion of this region is just above the Great Lakes and experiences hot summers with a lot of humidity and is considered to be a humid continental climate. Winters are cold and generally have a lot of snow as a result of the lake effect, yet the areas surrounding the shorelines experience a bit warmer temperatures due to stored heat released from the lakes. The farther north you travel in this region, you enter more of a subarctic or tundra climate where the winters are colder and longer and the summers are cooler and shorter but there is less precipitation. Most of the KOA campgrounds in this region are grouped near the Great Lakes or close to the border with the United States and offer great camping and wonderful amenities during the months of April to October.
The Central Canada Region is composed of two provinces, Ontario and Quebec. They are also the two most populated provinces in Canada, containing over 60% of the country's population combined. French is the official language of Quebec. Ottawa, the nation's capital, is located in southern Ontario and borders Gatineau, Quebec. In Toronto, Ontario's capital, you can see the CN Tower and ride up 553 meters to the top in a glass elevator. Montreal and Quebec City are the most populated cities in Quebec. This province is home to Forillon, La Mauricie and Mingan Archipelago National Parks.

The Pacific Coast Region contains the British Columbia province. Located along the western edge of Canada, this region has a variety of climates. Along the southern coast, there is a mild coastal climate with precipitation. Summers are warm and the winters are the mildest in Canada in this area. As you move inland, the central and interior areas of the province with higher elevations experience a more continental climate with hot summers and cold, snowy winters. Due to the effect of the mountain ranges on the climate, some lowland interior areas can experience a dry, arid climate. The northern part of the province has long, cold winters and short summers. The popular times to camp are from April/May through September/October. There are three KOA campgrounds to suit your needs in this region with amenities to make your camping experience very comfortable.
British Columbia is the third largest province in Canada by population. The largest city is Vancouver and the capital is Victoria. Along the coast, you can enjoy whale watching or kayaking. There are seven national parks in British Columbia. Near the BC Islands and Vancouver Island area, you will find Pacific Rim National Park Preserve and Gulf Islands National Park Preserve. In eastern British Columbia, you can visit the Kootenay Rockies area and four other parks; Mount Revelstoke National Park, Kootenay National Park, Glacier National Park, and Yoho National Park. The remote Gwaii Haanas National Park Preserve is in Northern British Columbia. The Sea-to-Sky Highway is a scenic journey that connects Whistler to Vancouver. There are great attractions to visit in the Vancouver area, including its urban Stanley Park, Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, and the Vancouver Aquarium. Victoria is the capital of the British Columbia province located on the southern portion of Vancouver Island. It is just a ferry ride away from Washington state and the Seattle area. Visit beautiful Butchart Gardens, with 55 acres of flowers and water features or the Royal BC Museum in Victoria. Wells Gray Provincial Park is known as "Canada's Waterfall Park," and currently has 41 named waterfalls. There is a KOA campground only about six miles from this beautiful park. If you are planning to visit the national parks in the eastern part of the province in the Kootenay Rockies area, the Sicamous KOA or the Cranbrook KOA would be a great place to stay on your way. In the winter, British Columbia is a popular skiing destination with resorts such as Whistler, Big White, Revelstoke, Sun Peaks and Fernie ski resorts.

The Prairie Provinces Region has a climate that varies as the provinces contained within it are bordered by mountain ranges on the western portion and transition through grassland plains to the edge of Hudson Bay on the northeastern part. In Alberta, the climate is humid continental, with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Saskatchewan has a continental climate with warm to hot summers and very cold winters. Manitoba has a continental climate and due to the flat landscape, experiences cold air from the north or hot air masses from the south. Southern Manitoba around Winnipeg is more humid with warm, moderate summers. This region is named for the vast areas covered by grasslands, shrubs and meadows. It is the agricultural center for Canada and is also home to parks and preserves. In Alberta, Banff National Park stuns visitors with its gorgeous scenery and the brilliant turquoise-colored water of its lakes, including Lake Louise and Morain Lake. Jasper National Park is the largest park in the Canadian Rockies and is located in Alberta north of Banff. Waterton Lakes National Park is located just north of Montana and shares a border with the United States' Glacier National Park. These parks are united as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are referred to as Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. Two other national parks are found in Alberta, Elk Island National Park and Wood Buffalo National Park. Calgary is the largest city in Alberta and is home to the Calgary Tower and the annual Calgary Stampede Rodeo and festival held in early July every year. Edmonton is Alberta's capital and popular places to visit are the Royal Alberta Museum and the West Edmonton Mall, the largest mall in North America. In Saskatchewan, you can visit more national parks and historic sites. Prince Albert National Park and Grasslands National Park are found in this province. Historic sites to visit include Fort Walsh National Historic Site and Batoche National Historic Site. The capital of Saskatchewan is Regina where visitors enjoy the Wascana Centre, which is an urban park built around Lake Wascana. Attractions here include The Royal Saskatchewan Museum and other arts and science centers. Manitoba is located in the longitudinal middle of Canada and is bordered by Hudson Bay's large saltwater body in the northeast corner. This province contains a cluster of lakes in the southcentral area including Dauphin Lake, Lake Winnipeg, Lake Winnipegosis, Cedar Lake and Lake Winnipeg, the largest lake in both Manitoba and within the Prairie Provinces Region. Riding Mountain National Park is a forested park on a ridge above the surrounding prairie landscape. In northern Manitoba, is the remote Wapusk National Park, a subarctic wilderness known for its large population of polar bears and other wildlife. Other fascinating places to visit include the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre, Whiteshell Provincial Park and Lower Fort Garry National Historica Site.
