Visiting Great Smoky Mountains National Park

From its majestic peaks to its rich forestry, the Great Smoky Mountains have been an awe-inspiring sight for visitors since the national park opened in 1934. The mountains are some of the oldest on Earth, spanning over 800 miles wide and rising between the Tennessee-North Carolina border. When settlers first arrived in the 1700s, the land was inhabited by the Cherokee tribe, who named it the “Place of Blue Smoke” for the bluish haze along the region. Today, visitors can experience this beautifully preserved landscape while traversing its vast greenery.
To truly experience the glorious outdoor sights and history of the mountains, consider Great Smoky Mountains National Park campgrounds in the area. Whether you prefer the popular attractions of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, the scenic Cherokee tribal country along the Raven Fork River or the peaceful community of Townsend, you are bound to have an unforgettable experience with Kampgrounds of America. Several nearby KOA Campgrounds are ideal for cabin enthusiasts, RVers and traditional tent campers alike. Whether you are visiting for a weekend or a week, KOA makes an excellent basecamp for exploring the richness of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Camping near Great Smoky Mountains National Park At The Sweetwater / I-75 / Exit 62 KOA Holiday

The beauty and quiet setting of this KOA Campground makes it a favorite with overnight campers, as well as families enjoying an extended vacation or weekend getaway. Our sites are Big Rig friendly and our cabins make your stay feel a little more like home. We recently added some new amenities that everyone can enjoy. Challenge your family and friends to a game of Water Wars or Corn Hole, pan for gems in our new Gem Mine (Spring 2021), bounce on our updated jumping pad, or spend some time relaxing at our catch and release pond which is fully stocked with bass, blue gill and catfish. Our camp store features a variety of things to fill your needs. And now through our partnership with RVshare if you need an RV for your adventure you can order one and have it delivered right to your campsite at the campground - just click here to find a local RV for your trip!

While you are staying with us, take some time to enjoy and experience all that the surrounding area has to offer. Visit the Lost Sea that offers a unique cave experience, take a tour at Mayfield Dairy Farms or Sweetwater Valley Cheese Farm and go shopping at Sweetwater's Antique District. If you'd rather take in the scenery, take a drive through the Cherokee National Forest or down the Cherohala Skyway. You can immerse yourself in nature with a short walk down one of our nature trails, go boating on a nearby lake or by bird watching. Our campground provides the perfect base camp for a day trip to the Great Smoky Mountains, Dollywood and many other fantastic attractions.
