April 7, 2021

When you’re selling a used RV it’s important to have completed all necessary maintenance to ensure you get you the most for your rig. Whether you’re selling privately or looking to trade-in your RV at a dealership, there are a number of things on the interior and exterior you should check for to maximize your selling potential. In this step-by-step video lesson from RV Repair Club, an RV expert will teach you how to sell your trailer for the best price by thoroughly cleaning and making affordable repairs.

Things to Keep in Mind when Preparing Your RV For Resale

A potential buyer is likely going to complete a thorough inspection of your RV. This can be especially true of dealers who are looking to resell your rig. They’ll search for every little thing they can find to knock off a few dollars, so it’s important you be as thorough in your cleaning, maintenance, and repair inspection as they will be in theirs.

First, exterior appearance is critical. Decals, side wall surfaces, corners, liners, and everything else will be seriously scrutinized. If you know that your vehicle’s exterior hasn’t been maintained as well as it should be, it’s recommended to use a heavy-duty cleaner and buffing tool to restore your vehicle’s luster and remove any mildew or stains. You can also apply wax with UV protection or use surface cleaners such as ProtectAll.

Next, it’s important to swap old propane tanks for new or more recently certified tanks. This is a small but important  money-saving step. The same goes for hardware on the outside and inside of your vehicle. If you want to learn how to sell your trailer for a reasonable price it’s important that everything functions without extra work or force. All components should operate and move easily so oil, tighten or upgrade any hardware that needs a little extra care.

As for the interior, be sure to detail every appliance surface (i.e. refrigerator racks and grills that might be corroded), and find any spots that could be prone to leaks. Also be sure to check the pressure of your stove’s LP regulator, tighten loose laminate in the ceiling, and thoroughly clean AC vents and bathroom components.

Sell Your Trailer By Looking Like An Expert

As the last owner, you should know everything about your RV. Consider documenting everything that’s featured on your rig, whether it be standard, optional or after-market. If you have the original brochure use that as a comparison tool when trying to sell the vehicle. Keep a list of all maintenance completed and weigh what’s cost-effective to fix, replace, or upgrade. Certain things might not be worth your time or effort. Do your homework, put in the time, and you should be able to get a good price for your vehicle!
