Follow the “Three A’s” To Get Your Family Excited About Camping

November 23, 2015

As far as American traditions go, the family camping trip is our favorite: it’s not competitive like baseball and it has way fewer calories than apple pie. But when the road calls, how do you make sure you’re following it somewhere the whole family will enjoy? Save your family trip from a National Lampoon-esque demise by following the three A’s of destination selection.

Accommodations

Tent camping with a baby is usually not something we’d wish on our worst enemy.  But little ones don’t need to put a damper on your outdoors excursion: with the right accommodations, they’ll love roughing it as much as you do. While RV’s are a go-to for family fun, there are other options for those without easy access to one. Many campgrounds offer cabins that range from primitive to lavish. Not sure if cabin camping is right for you? Let these awesome KOA destinations change your mind.

Activities

Awesome camping trips require prioritizing. Are swimming holes on the top of your must-have list? Are you aching to dust off your hiking boots? Or are you looking for a laid back, marshmallow-roasting, poolside-lounging type of camping experience?

Don’t just research the campground where you’re pitching your tent or parking your vehicle – take a look at the surrounding area! Roadtrippers is a a great place to start for checking out what your potential destination has to offer, from strange roadside attractions to historic monuments to shopping and dining.

Different campgrounds give off different vibes, so know what you’re looking for before you book your site. If you’re looking for a high-energy community with potluck dinners, campground bingo, and arts and crafts for the kiddies, you’re not going to find it at a primitive site on a secluded mountaintop. But if you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and truly connect with Mother Nature, then you’ll want to ditch the kitsch and head towards more private destinations.

Follow the three A’s and get travelling – we’re rooting for you!
