Book Recommendation: KOA and the Art of Kamping

October 14, 2013

If you love camping, the outdoors and great works of art that depict your favorite family activity, you’ll love a new book just published by Schiffer Publishing.

“KOA and the Art of Kamping” is 104-page, full-color, hardcover book featuring 230 exceptional photos about the world’s largest camping system and the artwork that Kampgrounds of America has commissioned over the years.

Each original work of art is related to camping and RVing. The artwork includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs and other forms, all housed in the KOA International Headquarters in the company’s Art of Kamping Gallery in Billings, Montana.

The subjects covered in these chapters include folk art, humor, whimsy, civic spirit, international, the KOA-Airstream connection, a commemoration of KOA’s 2012 fiftieth anniversary celebration and more.

Taken together, this collection celebrates the “soft rugged” camping experience KOA provides, reflecting the belief that camping is an important and positive life experience. It shows how camping brings families and friends together, escaping the humdrum everyday experience in favor of the exciting, restorative outdoor experience enjoyed by young and old alike.

The book was authored by John Brunkowski and Michael Closen, both lifelong RVers who have enjoyed staying at KOA campgrounds many times. They are the authors of three previous books about RVing.

The book was produced and is being marketed and sold by Schiffer Publishing, and can be purchased at their website for $29.99. The book is also available on Amazon.com at the discount price of $24.52.

Kampgrounds of America Inc. is donating 100 percent of any of its proceeds from sale of the book to benefit KOA Care Camps for children with cancer. KOA Care Camps is a network of 55 specialized summer camps in North America for children with cancer and their siblings. The camps provide a true summer camping experience for these children.
