Keep the whole family happy with these awesome kid-friendly campgrounds
May 9, 2015

In a perfect world, kids wouldn’t need any extra entertainment while on a family camping trip. They would enjoy the scenery and quiet walks through the woods and be content the whole time. But in reality we know that just isn’t always the case. Kids like to experience fun activities while camping, and getting them tired out during the day will lead to more pleasant evenings around the campfire.

If you’re planning a family camping trip with kids, then consider the following top kid-friendly campgrounds for your destination.

Virginia Beach, Virginia

The Virginia Beach KOA easily makes this list of the top kid-friendly campgrounds. Located only two miles away from the famous Virginia Beach Boardwalk, families will not lack for fun activities to experience along the oceanfront. This campground isn’t limited to a trip to the beach for fun either.

The campground features two swimming pools and in-season games and activities, including outdoor movies, flashlight candy hunts, tie-dyeing, a dunk tank and the one-of-a-kind Water Wars Jet Fighter. Year-round amenities like the Big Bouncer, a Fun Zone with beach sand, two playgrounds, a game arcade, and outdoor game courts round out the Virginia Beach KOA as a prime kid-friendly campground.

Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, Nebraska

Nebraska’s Eugene T. Mahoney State Park is another one of the top kid-friendly campgrounds around. It offers year round accommodations with comfortable family cabins. Located on 690 acres in Nebraska along the scenic Platte River, Mahoney State Park offers plenty of activities for families with kids. Also in this area is the West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA that offer great activities for the kids.

The Family Aquatic Center is the main attraction at the park for families of all ages. It features three water slides, a wave pool, a lap pool and concessions stands. The park makes for the perfect place to enjoy the sun and cool off during the hot summer months.

Heyburn State Park, Idaho

Heyburn State Park is a great destination for families with kids who are a little bit on the older side. Heyburn is the oldest park in the Pacific Northwest, and has been offering relaxation and fun for families since it was created in 1908.

The park offers a wide range of activities for families including water sports on one of the three lakes located in the park, mountain biking, boat cruises, hiking and more. One of the best ways to top off an action-packed day in the park is with a sunset dinner on one of the park’s beaches. You could visit Heyburn State Park for years and never experience all the great things it has to offer.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

If you and your family are looking to combine camping with a true vacation mecca, check out Myrtle Beach KOA. The coastal city offers a myriad of attractions, and the campgrounds’ camping cabins and deluxe cabins are within walking distance of two amusement/water parks, four miniature golf courses, live music theaters, more than 40 restaurants and, of course, dazzling sand beaches.

If any of these top kid-friendly campgrounds don’t sound like they are right for you, I promise that you’ll be able to find one that is right for you and your family near you. Simply log onto Roadtrippers or head over to KOA and begin your search. Happy camping!
