Campground Reviews

This is the most unique KOA I have ever stayed at. The campsites are located on a very improbable hillside location for camping, and the developers have made the best use of this terrain. The changing slopes allow for more privacy at the camp and cabin sites than you would get at a conventionally built KOA on flat land. As a plus, this location has the most available electric and water sites.

The staff was very helpful very accommodate all the families that came to meet up. Only bad thing wish ithe steeper drive way had more rock for traction. Especially when it rains.

We had a wonderful time! From the moment we checked in the staff went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one for our family . The grounds were perfectly clean & maintained. Highly recommend ! We will be back

this is our campsite! we live only in atascadero, but feel a world away. the people at the front desk make this place special too. the jumping pad, the flexibility, the activities, the balls on loan, the reasonably priced knik knacks, the charming cabins, the yurt!!!, we will be back. we always come back. thank you!!

The campgrounds were wonderful and generally well-maintained, but the restrooms were a little underwhelming in the cleanliness department. Specifically the women's showers in Bathhouse 2. Other than that we very much enjoyed our stay. We loved how close we were to the lake where we could take the kids fishing and the town of Santa Margarita is charming. We'll be back!

Love the whole area of this site. Beautiful setting!! Thank you!

I love staying at the Santa Margarita KOA. My only complaint is the bathrooms were not maintained very well. Everything else was great especially the customer service.

We loved it so much we made two new reservations this year. More like a resort than a holiday.

Amazing KOA only stayed one night but hostess was very helpful, park was just like your in the woods. Nice and quiet Will definitely go back and stay longer next time.

Great staff, found us a great spot to out our Class B Van, lovely hillside spots for Class B, tents, yurts, and cabins interspersed. Did not go to Lake but will do next time we book here. Also close to many wineries, Sensorium, and cute towns of Creston and Sta Marguerita. Would be a great place to stay during rmthe events in Paso Robles

The roads were not well maintained, which made it difficult to tow our trailer up the gravel road. All of the toilets in the men's bathroom were clogged and not cleaned for our entire stay. A clean bathroom is one of the most important things about a campsite for us, so I can't recommend it. For those who don't need to use the public restroom, it would be a good campsite for them.

So sad that our stay is over :( The site was absolutely beautiful and Karen (the owner) was incredibly accommodating!! It was raining the day we arrived and she was so kind and helpful, it really made our trip so much better. We can't wait to come back! #EasterMiracle

Beautiful area! Roads were a bit precarious due to recent weather. Restroom/showers clean.

The site was good and the place we had for our van as well. But $115 for one night is completely overpriced especially when I look at the bathrooms. I know there is a sign outside that these bathrooms will only be periodically maintained but the signs inside speaking about summer camp 2023 hopefully are not indicative of the length of that mentioned period.

Very big campground, love that we can explore around. Lots of trees and hills, chilly mornings are great for coffee surrounded by nature scenes.

A beautiful campground at this time of year. We stayed in site #62 which is a large pull through site with no neighbors on either side. I highly recommend it. We drove to the lake and down into the town of Santa Margarita, a small town with not much there. When you come here know that there isn’t much to do in and around the campground. You will need to drive to San Luis Obispo, Morrow Bay or Pa

The roads are mostly dirt or gravel and many have large ruts and/or potholes. The tent camping spots the website bragged about being motorcycle friendly are absolutely unusable for a motorcycle. Steep embankments on muddy, loose gravel in water-rutted access drives. But the staff was awesome and the guys checking me found me a spot that would accommodate the Harley.

Attendant was rude, charge way too much for non peak time.

We arrived to cabin #85 to find two large 5 gallon orange paint buckets set up for trapping rats/mice. Not a good start, however the staff quickly offered us cabin #87, which apparently has no rodent issues? However, the heater "fan" is so strong when it blows heat, it wakes you up and we could adjust the temperature, but not the strength of the fan-this two pretty sleepless nights.

This is a beautiful campground! Very clean and accommodating. Highly recommend.

66 dollars for a cyclist to pitch a tent at a campsite is criminal - will know to avoid KOA like the plague

Beautiful, quiet stay in an incredibly maintained and well laid out campground. Sites weren’t right next to each other and let it feel like you were actually enjoying nature. Wonderfully dark at night to see the stars.

The staff is always so friendly and helpful. Gorgeous campground too!

Such a wonderful cabin! It was clean and comfortable with beautiful views. Can’t wait to come back.

It was one of the best KOA we loved the patio with tables and chairs...not picnic table and the fire pit area was the best. staff was very friendly. There were many places to walk so no need for a fitness center

Great location for hiking the San Lucia Mountain portion of the Los Padres. Great location for biking. Restrooms very clean and nice. Sites nicely laid out. We had a fantastic patio site with lots of space. If you are tenting, there are gorgeous sites up the hill that I would highly recommend. The staff were courteous. We would come back in a heartbeat.

We reserved a patio site; it would have been nice if they had blown the leaves and spider webs of the patio furniture. It is a very nice rustic campground, It does need some TLC on the roads. They should lower there prices in the winter since they had no amenities available at this time.t They were extremely friendly .

Beautiful campground! Too bad it rained on us…would have stayed longer. We will be back soon. The store attendants were beyond helpful. They were nice and made us feel very welcome.

Always love our stay here. The grounds are looking nice. Missed having Corn Hole. A bit disappointed that the kids' new year's actives were done during the day on 12/30. But that won't stop us from coming again. The friendly staff and scenery will always have us coming back. Love you guys!

This Park was disappointing. Arrived at 4:15p, office was closed, after hours checkin process in place. Sites were poorly maintained, roads throughout the park crumbling. In two days, did not see a single KOA person working inside the park, among the sites, or just checking up on things. This park has a very unique layout and has potential but it is below normal KOA standards currently.

This was our 2nd time staying over Thanksgiving with family in sites nearby. We love it. We utilized 2 sites next to each other, 1 site just below and 1 cabin. It was perfect. We parked head in with our motorhome and our daughters fam backed in their trailer. We had a beautiful common space between us. We were told head in was not allowed, and they let us slide this time. Can this rule be changed?

Karen, Daisy, and Michele were amazing. We had a Family event and these ladies went out of their way to help me and my family and gave us a seamless and amazing experience. Definitely planning my next reunion here. Thank you so much!

This is an excellent place if you need a fully equipped cabin down to a tent campsite. Being built into a hillside allows more privacy between sites than you would expect from a typical KOA experience. The hosts are very helpful and very accommodating. Can't say enough about what makes this a step above the typical KOA location as it has been for decades.

Karen, Michele, and Daisy's names. Were amazing help to our family. This trip was kind of hard after my husband passed away. We came out to do a memorial for him. Y'all made it very cool. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
