Tent Reviews

Very large campground and very busy and bustling. They have a lot of amenities but not a lot of bathrooms. Our tent site was nice and clearly marked but a far down and uphill walk from the restrooms and showers and not enough of either for a full campground. The restaurant was nice and the location is great.

Great amenities and a clean campground. There's something for all ages. I do wish the rock climbing wall was available for our stay.

We had a fantastic stay. You all do a great job keeping the facilities nice and running activities. I would also like to give a shout out to the gal that checked us in. I cannot remember her name, but I know her husband works there as well. All I can say is that she was awesome. A wonderful, friendly and helpful person. I never met her husband, but I'm sure she is much better! :)

It was great the only thing was a black sludge occasionally came out of the sinks and showers which was gross. Otherwise we loved it!

Our family enjoys staying at Palmer Gulch KOA when we visit the Black Hills. It is very close to Mt. Rushmore and other attractions. There is so much for the children to do, and the staff is very friendly and helpful! We are now bringing our grandchildren to experience what their parents did!

We were there July 2-6th. All the staff were lovely. We were impressed at how often the bathrooms were cleaned and with the updated showers. Loved the chuckwagon and trail rides. I understand it was the 4th of July, but it was just so crowded and loud. Our tent was 6 feet (or less) from the tents on either side of us, 6 feet from the cabin behind us, and 2 feet from the road.

The grounds were beautiful and there was so much to do but there was a lot of trash on the property and the showers have a lot of mold.

Wonderful friendly service, the campground was very clean, play area for the children provided plenty of different activities, at times made it difficult to pull them away. I enjoyed the covered wagon steak dinner and cowboy show and would recommend that highly. Well stocked gift shop. A Perfect vacation for 3 generations of my family.

We had an RV Site and a group tent site. Both sites were clean, the RV Site had a grill, concrete patio and a nice table & chairs. The hookups were good .

We always have a perfect stay at Palmer Gulch. Check in is easy and the front desk staff have always been helpful. We also like that there's a coffee shop, ice cream shop, pools, amenities galore, and really clean bathrooms! It's like camping but with bonuses

Most everything was wonderful! Staff were friendly, experience was good. The stables fantastic. Tried to get coffee both days I was there Over a 20 min wait. They weren’t busy, more that they don’t know how to run the computer and equipment efficiently! Our spot was NOT tent friendly So rocky that the steaks didn’t go in! Not good in the storm And way too far from the bathroom for a tent spo

We absolutely love this KOA! It is the perfect family friendly camping resort with so much to offer. Our kids love very minute. We love that they can play and swim in such a safe place. The staff are awesome! The location in the black hills is amazing. Definitely, take advantage of chuck wagon breakfast, so good! Thank you Palmer KOA!

We were assigned a tent site with some drainage issues, but they had no problem getting us a different one. The walk to the showers was probably 125 yards. I wish there was a bathroom closer for nighttime bathroom needs. The facilities are amazing. We also did the chuck wag dinner and loved it. The pool was a hit for the kids.

We love staying at pulmer Gulch. The kids always have a blast and we enjoyed all the extra activities they have. The pools are well maintained. This year the bathrooms need some maintenance things were broken. My brother in law did have an unfriendly encounter with a night watch employee 6/26 about the way he was parked. That was a bummer. The employees at the horse rides were a little unkind.

Loved the kids zone for my 15 year old. She said we will be back next. Ps bring your own scooters or bikes. We loved it here

Tent camping stay was not enjoyable. Goose poop everywhere(this could be mentioned at booking as a possibility). There needs to be a path to the bathrooms between camper sites so you don't have to walk all the way around. Quiet hours were not enforced. People would walk into our campsite to fish. Sites were not clearly defined so others were constantly using our table, space, etc.

First time experiencing a KOA that had everything possible a camper could want—I’ll be bringing my family here next year

Beautiful campground area. Appreciated the clean comfort stations and the Kid fun zone was perfect for our family. We stayed in a tent and appreciated that we were not in between some campers but had a section more remote for tents.

We heard about this koa from a friend and we are so glad we went. It was a quick 2 night stay due to road trip. Wish we had more time as there is so much to do.

A really fun adventure for our family, our boys in particular. We enjoyed the pool, mini golf, basketball. The breakfasts were a really nice treat. Thank you so much. We enjoyed our stay.!!

Liked the stay very much. Wish the bathrooms were cleaned more often during our stay. The employees at KOA were very nice and helpful. Plenty of things to do and activities on the KOA and surrounding areas with Mt Rushmore and Crazy horse close by. I would definitely come back and this time instead of tent camping I would stay in one of the little cabins close by. 4*

I was so impressed with the campground. It's hard to even call it a campground. It felt more like it was a resort. The amenities were fantastic. The staff was awesome and the location of course was just beyond. Absolutely loved it

Unexpectedly incredible. I had no idea places like these even existed until we wanted to stop at a tent site on a whim. We will definitely seek out more KOA experiences in the future. The only bummer was that the horse stables were only open until Labor Day.

Great location! Beautiful. Clean and well maintained property with plenty of fun things to do.

This was our first stay at a KOA. I have never met nicer people. Lenny who greeted us from the start, was exactly what we needed after a long trip. He had us smiling and laughing soon after we arrived. He showed us to our sight and was super helpful in explaining everything to us. The campgrounds have so many activities for the kids. The all you can eat pancakes for $3.50 is a must to experience. And sign up for the Cowboy Dinner. The food is amazing and the music was first rate!! Wonderful experience for the whole family. We can't wait to come back!!

Individual sites are a bit small, but if it's a Basecamp for area attractions it hardly matters. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Ice and wood were a bit pricey. Great amenities. Wonderful for families.

We really enjoyed our tent stay at Palmer Gulch! We had a few run-ins with some determined geese, but the maintenance team was quick, friendly, and incredibly helpful. The resort has great amenities and is an excellent base for exploring the Black Hills. My only suggestion: consider adding shade to tent campsites near the pond without mature trees to make hot summer days more comfortable.
