Was a wonderful family resort! Kids had a great time. Small things make a big difference. Basketballs were so worn out and nets needed replaced, some fun zone activities just didn’t work(timed race)! Also bathrooms seemed closed more than open next to fun zone. If you like a little room between sites be sure you get upgraded sights! A lot of unleashed dogs! All in all this resort/employees-GREAT

This was a fantastic KOA resort to stay at with our two children. All staff were friendly, helpful and engaging. This KOA resort had a high energy, vacation feel to it. It was evident that all staff were invested in wanting guests to have a great time. The Chuckwagon breakfast that was offered during our stay was a great event to attend and highly recommend it.

Had a great time you amenities are great the camp ground is great, they need to stay on top of the camp K9 better, making sure there are doggie bags in the dispencer, and the place is picked up . Enjoyed the facility and looking forward to coming back

Very nice and clean. Just wish the sites were bigger and more shade.

Not sure where to start, the facility was very clean, the staff was very helpful and professional. We had lots of fun just riding around the park which was huge. So much to do and see. We loved it and will return and refer to others. Thank you !

We enjoyed our stay. Our site was perfect, however, the water in the shower was cold.

Gave me a spot on side of a hill and almost slid down it after trying to level out for a hour went down and they moved us to a better spot.its a very busy campground and they pack you in tight the place is great if you have kids lots of kids everywhere the waterslide is very small and saw no adults on it lol like in the picture but it's a little to busy for me and lots of kids

This place is packed with kids on bikes, scooters driving golf carts and the lot yet the speed limit is 10mph! There were no locks on the pool access doors, not great, young kids (under 12) were accessing the pool.without parents. Also the pool decks has zero shade and no umbrellas were offered. Bathroom facilities need upkeep proper cleaning.trash bins overflowing. Not safe place for young kids.

Every thing was great. A really nice facility. My only 2 complaints were the toilets by our rv site weren’t as clean as I’d expected and the jacuzzis in both locations looked dirty. Other than that, place was awesome

This is the best KOA, and with all of the attractions that’s near by also makes it great. Plenty of things to do. It would had been better if we could’ve had a spot that would have made our stay better, I asked for a spot that would’ve accommodate our camper deck . We had to leave our deck closed and we couldn’t use it. Unruly campers we’re walking through our site to go to the bathrooms

Only thing was the bathrooms were out of paper towels and TP paper first thing in the morning. Kind of a bummer

Our family of 4 enjoyed the resort to the fullest! A little disappointed when facilities were closed during business hours. The bathrooms were rarely clean enough to want to use, more frequent maintenance would be necessary.

Site was very unlevel and dusty. Bathrooms needed more attention. Amenities were impressive (loved being able to rent vehicles) conveniently located. Beautiful views.

Delightful and convenient. Staff were all helpful and friendly. Loved the accessibility of rental cars, it made driving in the Hills much more enjoyable.

Our site could have been a little more level.

Won of the nicest campground we have stayed in.

We have traveled to 48 states with our camper and this is the best one we have seen. It was our kiddos favorite, so this is the second time we have visited!

Always love a stay at Palmer Gulch. Have brought my kids here several times and am now bringing my grandkids. Such a great place to stay!
Jun 10, 2026
Friendly accommodating staff. Level lots, tons of things to do, especially for kids. The price was the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars.

The bathrooms in station #3 were the worst we’ve seen. Feces on the floor and toilets multiple times. My son and some friends found poop in the pool. They were the first ones in the pool that morning so clearly the pool hadn’t been checked by staff from the day before. Would have expected higher standards of cleanliness for a resort like this. Very disappointing

It was our first time in the area. We enjoyed our stay. Campground was always clean and plenty of entertainment for the kids. I liked the pancake breakfast in the mornings.

Sites on the hill are small and hard to level. Overall great park with nice amenities and good food. We went on rodeo weekend and had a great time.

This Mount Rushmore KOA Resort at Palmer Gulch was an awesome experience during our stay in the Black Hills. Clean and well maintained grounds and common areas. On site food options are great and availability of riding stables makes this a perfect option when visiting the Mount Rushmore area of the Black Hills.

From God’s created beauty, to amenities, to staff, this is an amazing place. There were 18 of us in 4 Patio Sites and 1 Deluxe Cabin and many great memories were made even before we went sight-seeing. The favorites in our family were horse-back riding, Chuckwagon Dinner, water slide, heated pool, mini golf, all-you-can-eat pancakes and bikes. The Comfort stations were clean.

Had to move sites twice because the deluxe pull thorough I paid was the top deluxe and we were on top of a mountain. The Peak Grill and Taphouse ruined the stay. Such an awful experience. We were scouting for a large group for next year, but will now probably pass this resort.

You have two many Kubota’s rtv going up and down the road all day long making noise starting at 5:30 to 6 am!! There is no piece and quiet.

Nice KOA! Everything went well. Our kids loved the pool an s mini golf. Our only issue was that we had no phone service anywhere in the KOA, and the WiFi did not work well. So we couldn’t make any calls, texts or look up maps or info for our next day of exploring.

Was a very delightful time, weather was great & thanks for that. :) So much for our grandkids to do. Thank you so much and blessings to all. :)

Fantastic campground. We got a spot in the trees so was extra nice. So much to do at the campground hard to believe anyone leaves to sightsee.

Overall, decent stay. A lot of fun things to do- horses were our favorite. Unfortunately, the pool near the lodge was always full and we could never get on the pickleball court, like we wanted. We stayed in one of the rooms for 3 nights and not once was our room cleaned up- I did not know until the last day that they don't come in the rooms without a request- this needs to be communicated at check-in (a family of four- there were towels piling up on the floor and would've been nice to have our trash taken out, plus we had to go to the desk to ask for toiletries and fresh towels). The lodge has very limited breakfast items (just cereals, muffins, yogurt, etc); would've been nice to have a free hot meal. TV didn't work for 3-4 days (offered very low compensation for this). While the front desk was overall helpful, there were times they could get snarky/short. Would've loved a fitness center/gym offered. Beds were comfortable. Water pressure in shower was good. Room on arrival was clean. Would come again.

We planned our vacation to the Mount Rushmore KOA Resort based on a recommendation from a friend. Since we aren't campers, we opted for a camping cabin, thinking it would be a comfortable alternative to traditional camping. Unfortunately, we were wrong. The website notes that the cabins do not have air conditioning, but it also suggests that it's not needed because temperatures cool off significantly at night. While that may be true under normal circumstances, it wasn't our experience. We visited during a stretch of upper-90-degree temperatures, and our cabin received direct sunlight for most of the day. Because of the cabin's location and window configuration, there was very little airflow. We ran three fans 24 hours a day and kept the front door open whenever we were at the site, yet the cabin didn't reach a reasonably comfortable temperature until after 1:00 a.m. each night. In addition to the heat, the beds were extremely uncomfortable. The mattresses were so firm that we may as well have been sleeping on the ground in a tent. The bottom bunk was especially difficult to use. There was very little clearance, making it hard to crawl in, roll over, or get out. I hit my head multiple times throughout the night. While the camping cabin was not a good fit for us, the resort itself was nice. The property is very large, but they also pack a lot of campsites into the available space. Our cabin site included a picnic table and fire ring, but there wasn't much additional room. We're used to having space to spread out, set up a grill, toss a ball around, and relax, and that wasn't really possible at our site. The bathrooms appeared to be recently renovated. The shower stalls were somewhat small and the water pressure could have been better, but everything was very clean and well maintained. The pools were decent and provided a welcome way to cool off, when they weren't temporarily closed for hygiene-related issues. I do wish there had been more shade around the pool area, such as umbrellas or covered seating. Because one of the pools was closed multiple times during our stay, everyone crowded into the remaining pool. It became too crowded for us to want to get in, and there wasn't enough shaded seating for parents who simply wanted to watch their kids swim. Ultimately, after two nights of miserable sleeping conditions, we decided to cut our stay short and move to a hotel. The staff were very understanding and apologetic about our experience. They refunded the unused nights without hesitation, and I was genuinely grateful for that level of customer service. Overall, if you're an avid camper who doesn't mind dealing with the elements, or if you're traveling in an RV, this is likely a great campground. As for us, we learned an important lesson the hard way: we're just not campers.
