Great staff and activities

Cleanest campground I've ever stayed at.

The good. Great campground for families. Tons of activities. On site horses to ride. Nice store. The bad. The grave in the roads and lots are lacking upkeep. Many lots have mud holes where most RVs steps are situated. The sites are not as long as expected. Our reservation was for 58 feet which was verified at check-in. I has at least 2 feet of overhang on each end into the roads. Many others same

This resort has it all! It's a great destination campground for families and their kids. So much to do to entertain everyone. The Chuck Wagon Super was special! The only drawback was the amount of people staying there, but it is a resort, so it wasn't a surprise. A suggestion would be to include another K9 park. The one that exists is off by the rodeo stands which can be a hike. Thanks!

This place is like a little city! Everything you need and more is there. I loved eating fresh hot pizza, listening to live music while doing my laundry! The bathrooms were amazing, roomy , clean and private. The gift shop was huge, the tours were several to choose from and it included horse trail rides. The sites were all shady and clean, A really fun place you stay all week!

Amenities were excellent, but crowded and tight campsites. The section we were in was difficult to get into and campsites were not level. No space between sites and were all on a slope. Bathrooms were cleaned at a very inconvenient time.

We loved our stay here. Even though it rained almost the entire time, the pool was still enjoyable, there was so much for the kids to do and the staff was so friendly.

Paid $162 for a premium site #301 , the most I ever paid for a KOA site and my neighbour was 5 feet away if that You got everything there and more this is probably why it is so expensive We are now staying at Mitchell KOA For $100 you get a real premium site

Our stay was fantastic. Incredibly clean, exceptionally well maintained. Sight was large, easy to navigate our toy hauler. So many fun activities for the grandchildren. They loved it!!!! We loved it!!!! We will surely be back.

Wow! This was an outstanding campground! Has so much for the kids and adults! Beautiful facilities! We will be back!

The campground is beautiful. The pull-through sites can be a bit tight for space before the next pull through. If I were to go back, I'd pick a back-in. Wifi was functional all through campground from what I could tell.

This is, by far, the nicest and best appointed KOA I’ve ever stayed at. The grounds were beautiful and there were numerous activites. The staff was great! They were helpful, friendly, and constantly working to keep the campground tidy. The showers were clean and I love the individual shower rooms with locking doors- no worries about privacy! It’s a design I wish more campgrounds used!

Bob led us to our campsite and he was great. We booked online and koa will always give you a site but getting into the site is challenging. Bob helped us switch sites. TREES! Trim the trees. Because the main road is so tight, we were scraping trees to get to the dump station. No one wants a hole in their roof. A walking sidewalk would be a great safe option for campers on the main road.

Loved everything except dinner at The Peak. Their lack of cleanliness really reflects badly on your resort.
Jun 23, 2026
It is a very clean resort for the high volume of people that past though staff is very helpful and friendly plenty of to do if you have children I did not appreciate the pet fee. The dog ran was unkempt The additional $$ for resort fee per person was unnecessary as we did not use any. Our choice but we should have a option You should not tell people that the WF is spotty but non existe

4 nights was a great stay. Traveled with adult children would be an amazing place if had younger children can get a spot in a quieter area aways from the playground area. Will be back

One of the best KOAs we have stayed at.
Jun 23, 2026
Large park and very crowded. This is really a kids playground. We most likely will stray away from KOA camp grounds from now on. These camp grounds are on the pricey side for an older couple with no kids. Resort fee etc for amenities we rarely use. Our camp site was full hookup. Gravel drive. It rained on our stay and was a soupy mess. Be sure to select a paved site if this is your fancy.

We had a group of 11 adults and 7 kids. We had two groups in back in spots and two groups in cabins. We used both pools, playgrounds, prospectors tent, outpost, grapes & grinds, ice cream shop, stables, chuck wagon ride, other stores and walked around the grounds many times. Everything was amazing. Zero complaints at all. Special shoutout to wranglers Claire and Alexa. 1000/10 fabulous. Thanks!!

Awesome KOA, great location, amazing staff, plenty to do onsite…. Would recommend to anyone!!

We absolutely love Palmer Gulch!
Jun 22, 2026
Beautiful campground, very convenient to local attractions, great amenities like the onsite restaurant, trail riding, and rodeo. Very busy and sites are close together. Suggest they add a few more dog bag/trash can stations throughout the park.
Jun 22, 2026
The kids loved all the amenities. I was disappointed in the number of small children in the hot tub without a parent in there also. I kid you not (10 or 12 at one time) I also was a bit disappointed in the crafts or events set up for the kids. Crafts were cheap and only took 15-20 minutes. The campground is lovely but almost too busy with the number of campers.

If you want a resort/holiday type of stay (especially with family) and want access to great tourist activities then this KOA is for you. If you're looking for a more relaxed and quiet experience there are probably better options not too far away.

Very disappointed with not getting site we selected when booked reservation on the phone. Have a 36' 5th wheel. Always stay for a week and book "full-hook up". Been coming here for several years. Site put in, our 5th wheel stuck out on the road, and only had water/electric. Supervisor moved us to another site. Still no sewer hook-up. Told us we can walk to the showers/bathrooms. ( ? ) Return.

Beautiful Resort.

Everything was great even with as many campers there it never felt like it. There is so much to do and even the Saturday night rodeo was a fun experience.

A Fantastic Park. So many activities… Great Rodeo

The number of campers greatly outruns the number of bathrooms and showers. Way too much smoke from the concentration of campfires the first night.

The site has not been maintained in some time. The picnic bench was broken and what should have been gravel was nothing but mud.and dirt. Unacceptable for the cost.

So many activities for kids that we felt guilty leaving the resort for site seeing. The young lady who ran the trail rides and chuck wagon area with the horses was so nice and helpful!

Stayed for 10 nights. Grandson loved it and was so close to 'all attractions

Amazing place!

This place is amazing.
Jun 21, 2026
Functional. Probably better with pre-teen kids to set them free and roam. No cell and very poor/unusable wifi(overloaded), no cable at hookup. Bathhouse was in poor shape for the size and cost of this location. Showers were small and no shelf or seat to place bath stuff on to keep off the floor, a few coat hooks only. Convenient to Rushmore and Crazy Horse, yes, but that’s about it.

Overall, decent stay. A lot of fun things to do- horses were our favorite. Unfortunately, the pool near the lodge was always full and we could never get on the pickleball court, like we wanted. We stayed in one of the rooms for 3 nights and not once was our room cleaned up- I did not know until the last day that they don't come in the rooms without a request- this needs to be communicated at check-in (a family of four- there were towels piling up on the floor and would've been nice to have our trash taken out, plus we had to go to the desk to ask for toiletries and fresh towels). The lodge has very limited breakfast items (just cereals, muffins, yogurt, etc); would've been nice to have a free hot meal. TV didn't work for 3-4 days (offered very low compensation for this). While the front desk was overall helpful, there were times they could get snarky/short. Would've loved a fitness center/gym offered. Beds were comfortable. Water pressure in shower was good. Room on arrival was clean. Would come again.

We planned our vacation to the Mount Rushmore KOA Resort based on a recommendation from a friend. Since we aren't campers, we opted for a camping cabin, thinking it would be a comfortable alternative to traditional camping. Unfortunately, we were wrong. The website notes that the cabins do not have air conditioning, but it also suggests that it's not needed because temperatures cool off significantly at night. While that may be true under normal circumstances, it wasn't our experience. We visited during a stretch of upper-90-degree temperatures, and our cabin received direct sunlight for most of the day. Because of the cabin's location and window configuration, there was very little airflow. We ran three fans 24 hours a day and kept the front door open whenever we were at the site, yet the cabin didn't reach a reasonably comfortable temperature until after 1:00 a.m. each night. In addition to the heat, the beds were extremely uncomfortable. The mattresses were so firm that we may as well have been sleeping on the ground in a tent. The bottom bunk was especially difficult to use. There was very little clearance, making it hard to crawl in, roll over, or get out. I hit my head multiple times throughout the night. While the camping cabin was not a good fit for us, the resort itself was nice. The property is very large, but they also pack a lot of campsites into the available space. Our cabin site included a picnic table and fire ring, but there wasn't much additional room. We're used to having space to spread out, set up a grill, toss a ball around, and relax, and that wasn't really possible at our site. The bathrooms appeared to be recently renovated. The shower stalls were somewhat small and the water pressure could have been better, but everything was very clean and well maintained. The pools were decent and provided a welcome way to cool off, when they weren't temporarily closed for hygiene-related issues. I do wish there had been more shade around the pool area, such as umbrellas or covered seating. Because one of the pools was closed multiple times during our stay, everyone crowded into the remaining pool. It became too crowded for us to want to get in, and there wasn't enough shaded seating for parents who simply wanted to watch their kids swim. Ultimately, after two nights of miserable sleeping conditions, we decided to cut our stay short and move to a hotel. The staff were very understanding and apologetic about our experience. They refunded the unused nights without hesitation, and I was genuinely grateful for that level of customer service. Overall, if you're an avid camper who doesn't mind dealing with the elements, or if you're traveling in an RV, this is likely a great campground. As for us, we learned an important lesson the hard way: we're just not campers.
