grandkids had a blast, never once did they say i am bored, always something to do

This is an amazing KOA. It is well maintained, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. There are so many things to do in this area and the campground as well! We loved it and will definitely return for a longer visit!

I have stayed here before (pre-covid) and have wanted to get back. The resort is fantastic and full of options, HOWEVER, not sure if we will come back. The lack of cell phone service and usable internet is unacceptable. When you have grandkids attending classes, and businesses which require monitoring, and service not capable of streaming videos or tv, it just isn't acceptable.

The only complaint is getting the sites close to level just to make it a bit easier to park.

Our stay was outstang in every way. One of your staff, Lenny was exceptional. He helped us throughout our stay. When my vehicle was struck by another camper trying to get into their space, 2 other personnel staff that was directing the camper to their site. Those two other personnel that were there, seemed indifferent, and didn't offer to help. Lenny did offer to help with whatever I needed.

Very clean and well kept. Even for the large resort, it was peaceful and quiet. Very convenient to surrounding attractions.

The park is very very well maintained. All the staff were super friendly and helpful! The amenities are amazing. You literally did not have to leave the resort but we did. If you have kids, this is the place for you.

The grounds were very nice and quiet at night. Everything was clean. For the price point of the campground I expected the WiFi to work but I tried to do some work online and it was useless.

We love this campground. Although the restaurants can be a bit pricey they are life savers in a pinch. There’s just so much to do. We’ve probably been here 8 times and still haven’t done it all.

Wow.. so much going on. We appreciated that we were in the upper area which was quieter. Not sure how sites are assigned. Lots of open sites but a family with young kids was put next to us. It was fine for us, but felt like they were worried about their kids noise. Why not put them in another space? Just a thought. We enjoyed the soace!

We enjoy our stay every year and look forward to next summer!

Staff was very helpful. The lack of cellphone/internet took time to adjust to

This KOA Resort is everything you would hope a KOA Resort in the Black Hills would be... The amenities were awesome, the store and staff great. site was easily accessible and we loved our first Rodeo!

Very clean!!!! Friendly staff!!!

We loved your campground resort. My only suggestion is that the lower to the ground bikes that children were riding had a flag on a pole so they were easily seen. I believe these bikes, not a traditional bike, were rented through your campground.

The only thing was our group went to Mount Rushmore at night and when we came back some worker followed our group and started making accuseing comments. Luckily the person he went after was a police officer who calmed the guy down. We have been going there for over four years and this is the time this has ever happened.

This was our second stay at this campground. Great sites, excellent activities and the entire staff is top notch. Definitely recommend if you’re staying in the Rushmore area!

Fast check in. Clean site and facilities. Staff is extremely helpful. Many, many, many activities for the grandkids!
Jun 29, 2026
It was our first time in a KOA and it was amazing!! The campground was clean and all the staff were so friendly. We only stayed there for only one night but we wished we would have stayed much longer.
Jun 29, 2026
It was clean with more amenities than expected. Only issue is that the fishing pond is advertised as stocked with fish, but in reality there are no fish in it
Jun 29, 2026
There's only enough room to park your camper and not enough room for your vehicle. The pancakes are not free.
Jun 29, 2026
We’ll definitely be back! We needed more time to both enjoy the campground amenities as well as explore the many site seeing adventures and cool shops in downtown Hill City.
Jun 29, 2026
Surprised the pads aren't level and not paved for the price. Also need better markings on sites that glow in the dark or are lit. Need a large map on registration so you can locate stuff if you are out late. Need to ensure ANYONE coming in before close for a parking pass gets a map. Our granddaughter had a horrendous time locating us. It took her 40 minutes and help from security.

Great stay wonderful staff
Jun 28, 2026
Our stay was very enjoyable. The grandkids had a ball! Our only complaint was that the wifi and cell service hardly worked at all! We understand the topography has a lot to do with that but we relied on the “wifi included” and had to resort to some extra efforts ( leaving the park) as needed. Other than that KOA at Palmer Gulch was great!!
Jun 28, 2026
There is bedlam at check in. For the price and location, I expected the sites to be paved. But they were not, and we had rain. And mud. Lots of mud. The sites are very close together. This location offers many activities for travelers with kids, but our kids are grown and we won't be back here. Seems lots of people bring their kids here to let them run and ride around unsupervised.

Amazing staff and facilities as always. We will always come back!

The trap house restaurant employees need training. This was the worst ran restaurant I’ve ever been too.
Jun 28, 2026
Our first impression was “wow!”. The campground is huge, situated within a beautiful landscape in the black hills and has so many fun activities to offer for kids. We really enjoyed our stay there. Everything was well maintained, the RV site was great, staff was super helpful and friendly. The kids were disappointed we only stayed 2 nights. We would absolutely recommend this campground!

Huge KOA! Lots of activities for everyone. Very friendly staff, very clean park.
Jun 28, 2026
Everything was clean and amenities were great. However, for longer stays, you should offer a discounted rate. Stay 3 nights, get a forth free or half off. We stayed 6 and paid full price + resort fees. That adds up to be quite a bit.
Jun 28, 2026
No-existent WiFi
Jun 28, 2026
Campground amenities are great, but most campsites are quite small compared to other KOA campgrounds we’ve stayed at.
Jun 28, 2026
This is by far the best campground in the United States for kids and parents. It is a generational staple in our family! 7 times with our kids and this trip was from Florida! see you again.
Jun 28, 2026
We think the camp sites are a little to close to one and other. We did enjoy the extra activities available at the park. The restroom near the coffee shop needs to be cleaned more frequently . Great location

We love this campground!
Jun 27, 2026
Great RV Park and location close to all adventures. Campsites, amenities and facilities were excellent and well maintained. Would have been a 5 Star Rating if it wasn’t for having “Wet Firewood”delivered by staff to our site.

Beautiful campground, great amenities! Nice clean restrooms!

What a wonderful place to stay.
Jun 27, 2026
The location in the Black Hills was perfect for all of the activities and sights we wanted to see. There were plenty of activities for our kids. The entire property was clean and well maintained.

Over priced, crowded and FILTHY! We stayed for two nights and comfort station number 4 never had paper towels in the restroom! It was so dirty the entire time! Very disappointed in this KOA! Like I said on my other reviews bigger does not always mean better and this was definitely the case for this KOA.

The overall stay there was great as first time RV rental and first time using KOA resort. Should have planned better the drive distance to this location and the route to Mt Rushmore need to say 16 highway is the route RV s need to take and this was my only hook up. I got there late at midnight and I had to come the back way in, but by the grace of God and Wife and both our military land naviga we

We were only there for one night but would have stayed much longer if we could have. The amenities are abundant, the bathrooms very clean, food was amazing and overall had an amazing experience.

We stayed at Mount Rushmore July 1st to the 19th of July. We had such an amazing time. We have been coming to the Black Hills for about 14 years, and this is the first time we stayed at Mount Rushmore KOA only because they book up fast. The staff are very friendly and very accommodating. A few days before we got there, I called and spoke to a gentlemen name Chris (which was a manager) we asked to stay in a certain site, and he accommodated us. we will be staying again there next year. Thank you, Mount Rushmore KOA, for such a great experience. Thank you! Farrows

This was our first stay at a KOA. I have never met nicer people. Lenny who greeted us from the start, was exactly what we needed after a long trip. He had us smiling and laughing soon after we arrived. He showed us to our sight and was super helpful in explaining everything to us. The campgrounds have so many activities for the kids. The all you can eat pancakes for $3.50 is a must to experience. And sign up for the Cowboy Dinner. The food is amazing and the music was first rate!! Wonderful experience for the whole family. We can't wait to come back!!

Individual sites are a bit small, but if it's a Basecamp for area attractions it hardly matters. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Ice and wood were a bit pricey. Great amenities. Wonderful for families.
