Bathrooms were spotless when we arrived on Thursday, but by Sunday it was obvious that they had not been cleaned since Thursday. That was the only thing that disappointed us about our stay.

Having arrived on opening day, May 1, we knew when we booked parts of the park amenities would be closed until later in the month but even still, overall 5 stars. The park staff is so friendly and accommodating. The store at registration is amazing, having everything you could possibly want; Hats off to the purchasing staff! The park is well maintained, Great patio setup at each site a bonus!

We loved our stay at Palmer Gulch KOA! Our only regret is that we were so early in the season that none of the wonderful amenities were available. We would have loved to have gone horseback riding. I think our only recommendation is to open up as many of the amenities such as restaurants, etc as possible on the day that you open.

Mount Rushmore KOA ia a nice facility with easy access to Rushmore and other area adventures like Custer State Park and Crazy Horse Memorial. The staff was excellent with extremely helpful suggestions for many local attractions. One thing to consider if going is looking into back-in sites around the outside of the campground since the pull-through sites when first pulling in are somewhat crowded.

The shops at the entrance were closed for the season so that amwas disappointing. The dog park wasn't very nice and my 25# pup was able to crawl under one of the gates. The internet service was bad.

We were in a pull thru patio site with a grill table and swing. Very nice. Right across from walking path which was convenient to walk our dogs. The park is close to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse, etc. Maybe they should keep more of activities available till end of Sept. since the weather was still nice and it would have been fun to take advantage of it. There were still lot of people.

Centrally located. Not all amenities were open and no prior notice given...i.e. only 4 washers for the complete campground which was very full.

Wow, we have never stayed at a KOA before and they really pack you in to the place. Very little room and as it was late September there were no activities available. Too much money for this time of year. The place was clean and close to where we wanted to be, but I do not think I could recommend this place to others for a late September stay. Maybe, mid summer if you have kids that want to swim.

The campsites are easily accessible, well maintained, and clean. This is a resort that has onsite shops, restaurants, and etc. The campground is located very close to several attractions that we were able to visit during our stay. Mount Rushmore, Cray Horse Memorial, Custer Park, etc.

very nice and clean great place to stay

The Campground is well located near all of the Attractions in the Black Hills. The Camp is very nice. I rated the camp a three because my Campsite was very Muddy. A little bit of Gravle would solve the issue.

It is one of the BEST KOA campgrounds we have stayed at... This is our 3rd time! The staff is very friendly, very helpful, and the campground itself is beautiful and taken care of! We love it!!! Beside the fact that it is just a few miles from Rushmore!! And Keystone, and Custer, and The Needles Highway! It is a must see!

We did enjoy our stay this time and the last time. By it being near season's end, it wasn't as exciting as our last visit. Our sites were not what we hoped, especially since our reservations were made months in advance. We loved the outdoor kitchen available and we used it. We appreciated the dog park that was close by and of course the trash pickup at our site. We shopped at the half-price sale.

Good points beautiful scenery, great location. Now all the negatives after September 1 all the amenities are gone also the sites are tight you are on top of each other . You will have no cell service or tv unless you have a smart tv with WiFi.

Great staff and site

Great location to go to Mt Rushmore. It looked like it had a lot of amenities for summer season campers, unfortunately none were open since we came in late September. But the bathroom facilities were clean and the campsites were easy to access for our RV.

This is a very nice park. The reason I did not give a 5 or 10 is because we came late September and the majority of the amenities were closed. I had to dig through the website to figure out what was open or closed. Would have been nice if in the welcome email/text it would have stated which facilities were closed.

Considering it was literally the last day of your season and everything was closed everyone was still very cooperative and friendly, and we will not hesitate to return

Nice clean facilities, friendly staff and an awesome location!

10 Stars! Location is extraordinary! Casey, Herb, and crew of maintenance went above and beyond with a battery issue on my vehicle! The closest camping to Mount Rushmore with a location of majestic beauty.

The sites are tight for anything over 30 feet. We got our 44 foot camper in but the place was closing in 2 days and we were able to park in a different spot . The staff is great and worked with us.

Probably the largest and one of the nicest KOA’s I’ve stayed in but only 5 washing machines available for the 100’s of campers.

Great facility! No cell phone service!!! We won't be back or recommend this KOA because of this issue!

Staff great and efficient! Resort well equipped!

The campground is beautiful and well maintained. Bathrooms and showers were probably one of the best I’ve ever seen. My only real complaint is that it was still so busy in that campground that I felt all the little stores and restaurants should have still been open for last 2 weeks you are open. Was excited to get wine, coffee and ice cream at the shops and a meal at the taproom.

Clean comfortable KOA, friendly staff

We had a great time, bathrooms are clean and showers as well. The price of fire wood is high. We felt safe at all times. It’s unfortunate that everything was closed, we would have liked to try some of the amenities while we were there.

The season was winding down so the campground was very quiet. Very close to Mount Rushmore. Enjoyed our stay.

The finest KOA CAMPING EXPERIENCE we have ever had. Staff the best. Awesome Store. Camping Price was great for all we got. Met awesome new friends. Enjoyed my bike riding. Beautiful location. Thank you all.

We had a great visit. Wonderful park, with great staff support.

Beautiful campground and area. The office staff was helpful with other staff working around the campground keeping it well kept. The only drawback was the size of the spots. Even though we stated the size of our camper, we completely filled our assigned spot leaving no room for our dually pickup! Our neighbors were disappointed as well. We had to confer schedules to accommodate coming and going.

Beautiful resort!

Many of the amenities were closed. The sites were tight and we had a patio site. The trees over our fifth wheel need to be trimmed as leaves were on top of our trailer. There are not enough laundry options. With the size of the park there should be more than one and all the machines should work. We would not stay again.

Beautiful park with great spaces. We have already booked our next trip!

It was a pretty grand koa, great for families. We are retired so probably prefer a state park.

We had a great time visiting with family and taking in all the activities near by for the 3 days we were there.

Overall, decent stay. A lot of fun things to do- horses were our favorite. Unfortunately, the pool near the lodge was always full and we could never get on the pickleball court, like we wanted. We stayed in one of the rooms for 3 nights and not once was our room cleaned up- I did not know until the last day that they don't come in the rooms without a request- this needs to be communicated at check-in (a family of four- there were towels piling up on the floor and would've been nice to have our trash taken out, plus we had to go to the desk to ask for toiletries and fresh towels). The lodge has very limited breakfast items (just cereals, muffins, yogurt, etc); would've been nice to have a free hot meal. TV didn't work for 3-4 days (offered very low compensation for this). While the front desk was overall helpful, there were times they could get snarky/short. Would've loved a fitness center/gym offered. Beds were comfortable. Water pressure in shower was good. Room on arrival was clean. Would come again.

We planned our vacation to the Mount Rushmore KOA Resort based on a recommendation from a friend. Since we aren't campers, we opted for a camping cabin, thinking it would be a comfortable alternative to traditional camping. Unfortunately, we were wrong. The website notes that the cabins do not have air conditioning, but it also suggests that it's not needed because temperatures cool off significantly at night. While that may be true under normal circumstances, it wasn't our experience. We visited during a stretch of upper-90-degree temperatures, and our cabin received direct sunlight for most of the day. Because of the cabin's location and window configuration, there was very little airflow. We ran three fans 24 hours a day and kept the front door open whenever we were at the site, yet the cabin didn't reach a reasonably comfortable temperature until after 1:00 a.m. each night. In addition to the heat, the beds were extremely uncomfortable. The mattresses were so firm that we may as well have been sleeping on the ground in a tent. The bottom bunk was especially difficult to use. There was very little clearance, making it hard to crawl in, roll over, or get out. I hit my head multiple times throughout the night. While the camping cabin was not a good fit for us, the resort itself was nice. The property is very large, but they also pack a lot of campsites into the available space. Our cabin site included a picnic table and fire ring, but there wasn't much additional room. We're used to having space to spread out, set up a grill, toss a ball around, and relax, and that wasn't really possible at our site. The bathrooms appeared to be recently renovated. The shower stalls were somewhat small and the water pressure could have been better, but everything was very clean and well maintained. The pools were decent and provided a welcome way to cool off, when they weren't temporarily closed for hygiene-related issues. I do wish there had been more shade around the pool area, such as umbrellas or covered seating. Because one of the pools was closed multiple times during our stay, everyone crowded into the remaining pool. It became too crowded for us to want to get in, and there wasn't enough shaded seating for parents who simply wanted to watch their kids swim. Ultimately, after two nights of miserable sleeping conditions, we decided to cut our stay short and move to a hotel. The staff were very understanding and apologetic about our experience. They refunded the unused nights without hesitation, and I was genuinely grateful for that level of customer service. Overall, if you're an avid camper who doesn't mind dealing with the elements, or if you're traveling in an RV, this is likely a great campground. As for us, we learned an important lesson the hard way: we're just not campers.
