This was the second year my family has camped at Palmer Gulch and we love it. We said we would return annually if possible with scheduling! We love coming to the black hills because there is so much to do, but this campground alone could keep your family busy for several days! We swam, danced, climbed, and played the whole stay! Would absolutely recommend! Also, very clean and organized!

Very nice camping spot with good option for all your needs .

This is the fourth time of us coming to this KOA, unfortunately this time was the worst. Nothing was clean, the showers and bathrooms all over the KOA were gross to the point not one of us wanted to swim due to not wanting to use the nasty showers. Also non of the activities were at the time listed which made it hard to plan. There was a massive wasp problem all over. Disappointing trip.

Wonderful place very clean and organized

We stayed 5 nights to visit the area. We did the Chuck Wagon Dinner show and rented Atvs. I would definitely recommend doing both. The only thing that needs improving is the bathhouses. The showers need more room and benches. People may not be handicapped but still need extra room and a bench due to other medical conditions. We also went to Devil's Tower in Wyoming, a little over 2 hours.

We love this resort this was our 3rd year here and when we left our Grandkids said " see you next year" they have so much fun and so do we!!! I highly recommend this resort!!!

rodeo was awesome!

This is the BEST KOA we have ever stayed at. The cowboy dinner show is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Lots of amenities and the facilities are very well kept and clean. Car rental services on site which is extremely convenient. We hope to return someday!

Enjoyed our stay, good location to get to attractions, only down fall to the campground was not all things were open like it said (example-jump pillow was hardly open four entire stay). Also the pool (not lodge the other one) needs a good scrub, the outer edges are dirty.

Staff was kind. Campground was clean and organized. We were sad that the swimming pool wasn't available the first day.

Very good for families with children. The restaurant food was not that good.

In order to be designated “resort”, it seems to us that the facility should have reliable and consistent cell and internet service.

Very cool place! Really busy. Close to Mt Rushmore

The campground is very large and busy with lots of activities, specialty stores and eateries. Our site was a great size, the power, water and sewer were all very good. Caution - lots of kids riding bikes and people walking on the roads. We ate dinner at The Peak. I wouldn’t recommend it. The food was just mediocre and the prices were high for the quality of the food.

The campsite is great and all the activities and options are as well. The pancake breakfast was nice and handy. The only issue I really had was the sites are too close together and when trying to leave it would have been impossible to get out except there was nobody camped behind us so we backed out of our pull thru and did so maneuvering to exit.

Great staff. Clean restrooms. Great amenities and activities. Downside is the large amount of wasps.

Great place but huge! So much to do! My only complaint is there were no benches in the shower to lay your stuff.

Beautiful setting! The facilities are very well kept and immaculate. The pool was great. The only disadvantage was poor wifi and no cell signal except a few texts. The staff is very friendly. We enjoyed our stay.

this is our 5th stay and were very pleased

Worst KOA I stayed at in 10 years. They focus on amenities making money and not the quality of the pull through sites. Had to jack my camper up 5 inches on one side and the sewer line was higher than my discharge on the camper. Had to go to dump site. Unacceptable for what we paid for. Never will go there again and tell everybody else not to go there. 1 of the pools were down. Too many people for

You're not going to find a better campground.

Love the place but our site was terrible. We could have broken an ankle from the way the stump hole was left. Extremely irresponsible on your part

Really great property with so many different activities. Great place to take kids or grandkids for a family vacation.

This is the worst KOA I have ever stayed at, please see my google review for all the details. Had it not been for paying in advance we would’ve left. It’s not about how many people you can pack in there., it’s about the quality of the stay. This is completely lacking in quality.

Palmer Gultch always makes the memories with the grandkids! The funzone needs updating!! We’ve been there six years in a row. The mini golf is a disaster! Please update!

The amenities were amazing! The campsite 536 is way in the back by the rodeo pin. The drive in there is very tight and we were on a teired spot which entry is very TIGHT with a 30ft RV. The spot was uneven. When leaving backing out was the only option. My spot was full hook-ups and it would of been alot better if we were down in the lot when you first come in. Staff is extremely friendly.

Our 7 day stay at Mount Rushmore Palmer Gulch was absolutely wonderful! From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed by the friendly, helpful staff who truly went out of their way to accommodate our requests. We especially want to thank Lenny who made our stay perfect. Bathrooms and showers were clean and always had soap, towels, and toilet paper. 2nd time here and will always come back.

Family trip Lots too do Only problem, was restrooms were messy. should be checked often for the amount of campers and cottages. Staff at check-in were very helpful and nice. Great location. Thank you

This place is good depending what you’re looking for. It was almost like an amusement park so if you’re looking for a lot of kids and people, it would be good. However we got a corner spot that barely fit our truck on the site. It was pretty clean. It had amenities my daughters saw cockroaches in the pool. It is close to Mount Rushmore and they run the place like an oiled machine.

This is one of the best campgrounds we’ve been to. We’ve been to KOAs from Florida to Vermont to California and this is one to the best. The ONLY reason we would not return is the yellow jackets. They were very aggressive and one of my children was stung.

For such a busy and popular resort, we had a very pleasant stay. The staff do a great job of keeping everything clean and ensuring everyone has an enjoyable stay. Even though we did not participate in the horseback riding or renting the side by sides. It was nice having the option. Everyone we met during our stay was friendly like the staff members and we enjoyed meeting them.

Many great amenities for kids, no wifi or cell service at our campground, close to area attractions.
Jul 28, 2026
was a great campground but there were bees everywhere from the campsite to the arena at the rodeo
Jul 28, 2026
Stayed a couple nights to see the area but could have spent a week. Disappointing to only have one small dog park for as large as the place is.

The site i was at terrible for my size unit. The spot was in the middle of a far removed corner. The site was slanted down hill. The guest next to me had a tent so close it was in contact with my waste pipe. The morning I left had to go up a hill and turn to get out the ground was wet and hill steep I actual slipped truck and trailer. You have a wonderful place I got a terrible site.

It had been over 12 years since we had last visited your resort. I was impressed by the changes that continue to make it even better. Although it was quite busy, I would say it is managed very well. There was only one issue that I was unhappy with and that was the number of unsupervised children in the hot tub. At times there was up to 15 children under the age of ten in the hot tub frequently

Our kids loved the amenities even though we only stayed 1 night while traveling through the area. They were begging to stay another night!

All went well as usual. Beautiful place to stay. Friendly staff

It was a fun place to stay. One down fall the pool by the kids zone was closed two days out of our trip. Also the kids that work at the kid zone was just messing around on the first day not showing a good example for my young kids.

All the staff were so friendly and helpful. The campsites/Restroom/Showers were clean and well kept. Lots of activities for the kids to do there. We had a very enjoyable stay there. Highly recommend.

The campground was clean and staff were great, however the campground is like living in the city which is not what I prefer when I’m on vacation. So if the city life is what you prefer then this campground is the best place for you. If you want peace and privacy, then I do not recommend this campground for that.

Such a beautiful place. Clean, friendly but since it was near the fall season the store was closed.

This jam packed KOA has it all. 2 pools. Waterslide. Playgrounds. Restaurants on the property. Horseback riding. Rodeo. UTV rentals. Lots of activities for the kids. Bounce pillow. It's right down the road from Mount Rushmore. Bathrooms were cleaned regularly. Cell phone reception is pretty poor, but you can't blame KOA. WiFi is pretty good if you are near their hotspots. There was always KOA employees ripping around, which they should slow down a little bit. We did experience the bees as mentioned by other reviewers. Everyone had a great time and we enjoyed our stay.

Great first experience with KOA! The reservation process was easy, and changing our dates was very convenient. Communication with Dee Dee before arrival was excellent, and check-in was quick and easy. The campground was clean, especially the bathrooms, and all the guests were very respectful. The sites are a little close together, so I would probably avoid the busy summer season. Overall, we were very impressed and would definitely stay here again!
