This was our first stay at a KOA and we were thoroughly impressed by the grounds, facilities and activities!
Jun 24, 2026
Stayed turning thunder storms and still had fun
Jun 24, 2026
Loved our stay! Only thing I would change is beds in cabin are hard and uncomfortable!

Great stay

We LOVED this location. We wished we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be returning in the future.

It was great! Everything was clean and stocked. The staff were very helpful with any questions we had. This is our fifth year in a row going and I have no doubt there will be a sixth.

It would have been nice to know that the camping cabins had NOTHING. We just came from a KOA Holiday where the cabins had a tv, microwave & mini fridge. Price vs value was not worth it. Better description of sleeping arrangements, especially for deluxe cabin or interior photos. Also, trashcans in the shower rooms. Pancake breakfast was good. Overall too crowded & overpriced.

So much to see and do. I only wish we were staying longer. I would have lived to watch the rodeo. We had a great stay and I have to say it was so clean and organized. Everyone we encountered was nice and helpful. I will recommend you to everyone I know !!!! Thank you for wonderful memories ϋ

We love it. This was our second stay and we’ll be back!
Jun 20, 2026
We just wrapped up 5 days here, and my family could not have had a better experience! The cabin we stayed in instantly felt like home. We never felt crowded, even with neighbors on both sides. The grounds are maintained very well and the bathrooms are cleaned several times a day so its never bad in there. Private rooms for showering. My wife felt safe walking by herself even in the middle of the n

We have been staying here for years, but this summer, our cabin was the worst we have ever had. There was a layer of dirt and dust under the beds and at least 200 dead flies. It was obvious that they had not been cleaned under for quite awhile. The mattresses had spots in them that we had to clean off before we could put our sleeping bags on them. However, the bathhouse was well maintained.

Best KOA around
Jun 17, 2026
The people were the best part. Great staff who go above and beyond. My negative is between all our groups we had 6 cabins and each had a mouse problem, so that should be addressed

Perfect campground for kids of all ages! Our stay was fantastic!’
Jun 16, 2026
We had a great time!! Can’t wait to return next year!!!
Jun 16, 2026
Stayed in deluxe cabin with my grandchildren and it was wonderful. This was my second year at the Palmer, Gulch, KOA, and the first time I went to the rodeo there and that was also amazing. This was a good spot to be because it was central to a lot of things that we wanted to see and do.

Stay was good. There was a time when staff were playing music at the activity pavilion and music with swearing came on. Once the next song came on and had swearing as well we asked them to change it. They did right away. But should be aware that most of us have little families that don't want that played. Overall stay was great.

Had nice accommodations, clean bath house, easy access to Mt. Rushmore. WE will reccomend friends & family to stay at this resort.

We stayed 3 nights in a deluxe cabin with patio. We were able to see all the South Dakota attractions we wanted to see during the day and have a fun ‘home base’ to come to in the afternoon/evenings. Our children loved the pools, playgrounds, jumping pillow, waterslide, and mini golf. My husband has a gluten allergy so we appreciated having a grill to make our own meals. Can’t wait to return

The customer service of everyone there is hard to compare. The stuff to do for kiddos is great and was important to us on this trip. The location is beautiful.

Fun stay and be back again.

Had a blast at the rodeo and cabin was great
Jun 10, 2026
Overall it was a great experience. The deluxe cabin we stayed in was great size. I wish the explanation would have stated that there was an electric stove top and toaster available. The upper bunk area above the main room was dirty, which made me question the cleanliness of the whole cabin as there was popcorn kernels and crumbs on the floor and old eaten watermelon rhine on the window sill.

This was an amazing campground with friendly and helpful staff. Amenities were clean and easy to access and there are a ton of activities for kids. Bonus for the stables where we could pet the horses every day. We went on a trail ride and it was a great experience for my 8 & 10 year olds! Beautiful views, attentive staff, and easy access to local attractions made this place A#1 in my book!

The only thing that complain about is the bathroom by the pool i am not sure it was cleaned fully the whole we week we were there. There was a bandaid that was on the soap dispenser and I find that to be pretty gross. We had a fabulous time and my kids enjoyed all the activities and the location was perfect for seeing all the national sites for seeing.

Great location and lots of amenities. Cleanliness of the comfort stations has room for improvement. The men's room of the comfort station was a bio hazard on arrival Friday night with human waste smeared across a bathroom stall and floor. Took at least 12 hours to get cleaned up. Stayed in a cabin and found mattresses to be ok as best - could use replacement soon. That said, we'll be back.

Loved it! Highly recommend! So much to do, so fun for kids, loved all of the on site food and entertainment options, our cabin was also spacious & relaxing, had fun in the golf cart rental too, chuck wagon dinner & trail ride was amazing also, friendly staff, A+++

Bathrooms were not clean and showers need a massive updating for a “resort”. Horseback riding was excellent.

Various amenities are top notch! Such a beautiful campground. We will definitely be coming back.

Beds to hard didn't get much good sleep.

Beautiful campground. Everyone is so friendly, thank you for the ultimate camping experience.

Our first night was freezing inside the camping cabin. No one explained that a heater was available for RENT. The next day we drove to Rapid City and purchased sleeping bags to add to our covers. Since leaving this KOA - Yellowstone has heaters in the wall as well as St Mary’s Glacier has heaters provided, This shows not all KOA’s are the same, but can improve on the customer’s satisfaction?

The restrooms really need updating. The grounds offer WiFi, however it is very lousy service.

Great time. We were there with a group. 6 total sites between campers, cabins and the lodge. All accommodations were great. The dog park needs a little love. And as big as the place is, a second one would be wise.

The amenities are amazing for families. Great family atmosphere. Being able to text the front desk at anytime was great and had very good response times.

The best campground we’ve stayed at! So many fun things to do and great places to eat!! The staff were so friendly too! Can’t wait to come back!!

We stayed at Mount Rushmore July 1st to the 19th of July. We had such an amazing time. We have been coming to the Black Hills for about 14 years, and this is the first time we stayed at Mount Rushmore KOA only because they book up fast. The staff are very friendly and very accommodating. A few days before we got there, I called and spoke to a gentlemen name Chris (which was a manager) we asked to stay in a certain site, and he accommodated us. we will be staying again there next year. Thank you, Mount Rushmore KOA, for such a great experience. Thank you! Farrows

This was our first stay at a KOA. I have never met nicer people. Lenny who greeted us from the start, was exactly what we needed after a long trip. He had us smiling and laughing soon after we arrived. He showed us to our sight and was super helpful in explaining everything to us. The campgrounds have so many activities for the kids. The all you can eat pancakes for $3.50 is a must to experience. And sign up for the Cowboy Dinner. The food is amazing and the music was first rate!! Wonderful experience for the whole family. We can't wait to come back!!

Individual sites are a bit small, but if it's a Basecamp for area attractions it hardly matters. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Ice and wood were a bit pricey. Great amenities. Wonderful for families.
