RV Reviews

My rating probably isn’t fair. I’m a solo 66 year old traveler with my border collie and don’t need all of the activities and amenities. But for families with kids it’s probably a fantastic spot. Just not for me. Park is well maintained as most all KOA’s and staff is great.

Lots of things to do. Helpful staff awesome facility with with more activities than I could do in a week. VERY convenient to My Rushmore and Crazy Horse monuments.

Beautiful grounds, but the bathrooms need to be really cleaned better. A lot of grime in the grout and smelly mildew. Seems like they are just hosed out and not “Cleaned”

This review is for our first night stay. We hated it. The site we were in was for a smaller unit and extremely uneven. Once set up and level we couldn't reach the bottom step of our camper due to the slope if the site. We went to the office and explained the situation. Staff were short and cold but half hour later said we could switch sites the next day. We'll see how the next 5 days go at new spo

This was a great place to stay and be in a central location to see a lot of things and not have to drive far. Our kids had a great time and always had something to do.

80 yrs old handicapped, noticed little handicapped accessibility signs bath, toilets etc. would like to see more. It is however very easy to be there with family with so much to do. Great views easy to get to Rushmore. All in all a great place!! Nice staff too!

I thought it was very crowded and very hilly. The sites were small and made it hard to get in and out of.

The location was great and we had a great view from our campsite; BUT the bathrooms and laundry rooms were not very clean. Showers were ok.

Although we just used a RV site for the night, I really appreciated the staff and how friendly and accommodating to our change in travel plans. It really helped things go smoothly on our trip!

This was our third trip to Palmer Gulch KOA. The activities and amenities are amazing! The stores are decently priced and have a vast inventory. The cleanliness of the restrooms and showers has gone downhill a bit but I expect that might be due to staffing issues, like all businesses are experiencing. Overall we had a great time and will be back!

The stay and the amenities were awesome but the closeness of the campsites together did detract from the stay. Otherwise a good stay

One of the best resorts I have stayed at. Professional, courteous and just pleasant

We enjoyed our stay and all of the activities for kids that were there. My only two complaints were that the gravel pad to park a travel trailer on left us no room for our truck, even if we unattached, so we were very cramped in there. And then we knew ahead of time that there was zero cell service there but yoh had wifi, but unfortunately your wifi didn't work 90% of the time. That was a big for

We were put on a “knoll” where are jacks couldn’t the front. Jamie moved us to a great level spot, thank you!!!!

Loved our stay! So much to do in the area, very close to Mt. Rushmore. Friendly staff, cleanest KOA I've stayed at!

This place is amazing! From the well-kept level sites to all the activities, this is one of the best campgrounds ever been to. Stunning scenery, and a friendly, knowledgeable staff just add to the experience!

Excellent site overall. I would prefer if golf carts could be reserved instead of first come first served. I would also recommend that golf carts, ATVs , UTVs can only be driven on site by licensed drivers, not by anyone who can grab the steering wheel. All dogs should be on a leash at all times, especially while on your own campsite.

There were some great activities offered to families, but there were also a lot of things dirty, broken, or not available when our family needed them. We stayed in the hill sites near comfort station 4. While it is amazing to offer bathrooms with full showers, the bathrooms were dirty and the showers were even worse. The pool facility was outdated and the mini golf needs to be repaired.

Amazing family experience!

Palmer Gulch is an impressive campground with lots of activities to experience. Beware: only certain activities are scheduled on certain days (i.e. rock climbing). We would have appreciated having the activities calendar ahead of time to review what activities we could do during our stay. It's a very busy campground and they could use better (lighted) signage. Streamlined check-in process.

Lots of amenities, 2 swimming areas, horse back rides and ATV rentals right at the resort. Lots for the kids to do. Good food at the restaurant. Downside, sites on top of each other. We were squeezed into a site that really wasn't big enough for our unit. Luckily we were with friends and we used their site for a camp fire as our slide blocked our pit. Saw several big units having issues.

Timing for cleaning bathrooms was not good, camping spot 25 is very small and not much room even for a pop up camper. Firewood price is a little high for the amount of wood given in a bundle.

Wonderful campground! We will definitely be back! Well kept and great experience all around! Thank you!

Staff not helpful at all. Cute coffee shop amd not one staff member listens when you order, and poor English spoken. Flies where horrible. Rude campers, for being a big koa no rules are enforced.

Staff was helpful and kind. So many activities for all members of the family! Can't wait to stay at Palmer Gulch again!

It is to big and noisy. Kids driving golf carts and electric bikes everywhere I just about got ran over by a 3 year old with training wheels on his electric bike. Not to mention our neighbor opening up his slide out in front of our only door to our rv. Fun times NOT

The stay was great! Staff was friendly and helpful! The showers, however, were disgusting and small. Every time we used them they were dirty and moldy.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The bathrooms and laundry room and showers need to be better cleaned and maintained. Need better exit signs and directions on dump station and propane from the 400 campsites area. Would be nice to have better Wi-Fi coverage. Nice scenic area beautiful views.

What an amazing place!! We loved every moment. The kid zone is amazing and my children had a blast! The amenities, food options, facilities, and staff were top notch. This is the best KOA we have ever been to!

we arrived, were greeted and checked in with ease. Our site (in the lower area) was a bit hard to level on, but we managed. We were close to the office area and that was a huge bonus for trips to get a snack, or coffee or shop. We only had to wait one vehicle to use the dump station before we left. Overall the resort is very full, very family friendly and very well managed! So may activities!

We had such a great time! We enjoyed the pools, waterside, and mini golf . The kids watched a movie at night in the activities area.... and had popcorn! The staff was all very friendly:)

Speed Bumps are a must have upgrade on Washington Road. The main drag is 10 mph and never enforced. With the especially tight campsites on spots 190-199, it would be nice if Washington wasn’t sounding like I-90. Additionally, if quiet hours were enforced a little more. 10pm? 11pm? It would be nice to not have teenagers driving around in golf carts wishing everyone a good night by yelling at

Great location, layout, and mostly great staff. Filthy comfort stations that don’t appear to be cleaned frequently enough and show no signs of a recent deep clean. The Prospector’s Tent serves ok food in a never ending cloud of flies.

Stayed here for 2 nights, May 11th and 12th. Campground was super nice. We did get an upgraded site $66.00 a night. It had everything FHU, gas grill, fire pit and patio set. Can also rent a car which are at the campground so you don't have to unhook your rig to explore the area. Gulf cart rentals and ATV rentals, they have everything, lots to do. We were there during off season (before memorial weekend) so not everything was open yet. Would have been perfect location for our Mount Rushmore visit but due to road work on Highway 244 between MR and the campground we had to go the long way around. Doesn't look like the work will be done very soon. Restrooms were ok, nothing exciting, typical campground restroom and showers. If we travel this way again we would for sure stay here again.

My experiences at KOA's have not been great...up until this point. We planned a Mt Rushmore trip, and I am 100% happy we chose the KOA to stay. 3 days and 4 nights. We went over Memorial Day weekend. You will get rain and some inclement weather. We packed most of our food, but we did partake in the pancake breakfast. Kid loved it. We rented a UTV for an afternoon for 2hrs. Worth it. You go on the back trails, and if you are adventurous enough, go on the gnarly trails too. You can drive UTV's on the open road here as long as yours is street legal with plates, I believe. This was the perfect base camp for the following activities in the area: Mt Rushmore, Bear Country, Keystone, Hill City, Rapid City, The 1880 Train (the train was ok, good for kids who haven't been on an old steamer.) The camp grounds themselves are great! Pool, shopping, horseback riding, little shops to visit. We made some really great memories here. Thanks, KOA! PS: Keep in mind, this area is 'Merica friendly...In other words, treat people right and you'll be treated right. Do not play games with the locals, the black hills are vast. Just sayin.
