Campground Reviews

stayed 4 days in a camping cabin. Was good. Next time going to stay in something a little less spartan

It was nice except for the first night. There were some older kids riding and driving around in your rental carts yelling and just showing off. It was about 4 to 6 hanging off the cart. There was also a 2 wheel little motorized miny bike, he was trying to do wheeles and going fairly fast, It was getting dark, there was no way they would be able to stop. One for the speed both vehicles were going .

When I arrived August registered me. He was so polite, pleasant and professional. He was able to find a cabin for my daughter and her family right near my cabin so it was more convenient for us since she has 3 children under 5. I told August we didn't have a picnic table and he called maintenance and a table was at our site in no time. He was very knowledgeable regarding all of the activities too.

Enjoyed the peaceful setting amidst the Ponderosa Pines, the close proximity to area attractions, close proximity to excellent indoor and outdoor showers, the many available activities for families including pancake breakfast. Thank you for your help and graciousness in adjusting as we experienced unexpected health issues during our stay. We are exceedingly grateful.

We have brought the grandkids for the last few years and it seems like it is starting to go downill. They still love to take advantage of all the games but expecially the mini golf is in bad shape and a couple hole sare difficult to play because of the torn felt and chipped cement

This place is getting way too expensive. There are fees for everything, even a daily resort fee for activities whether you use them or not. Some sites are difficult to get into on the hill, and they are so packed together that in some cases you're "sharing" your site with another camper (sites on the hill by the rodeo arena). If you have children and a lot of money, this is your destination!

Site was very crowded with mud outside the camper. Our awnings would touch the camper next to us if we opened them. The bath houses were very nice and clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Plenty kids activities. Location is great but wouldn't recommend it unless you have kids.

Most enjoyable. Many things going on. The workers at the horse corral are the best!

Great for families. Sites are tight. It was loud and boisterous for 2 adults. Wish we'd known to choose our site and to read the reviews. Unlikely to return.

My granddaughter and I enjoyed our stay here. In addition to being close to the places we wanted to visit, all the activities kept a 6 year old very busy. The campground was clean and very responsive to a problem I had with my tent site.

At check-in, Jose was fantastic. We had two separate reservations that were literally across the property from each other, but he helped us get closer for our only night there. Everything else left us wanting. We were placed far apart, but there were numerous open spaces where we should have been together originally. The dog pen was too small. The spaces were tight and stacked atop each other

The sites could be more level. It is very packt and narrow. There is no privacy.

Pots and pans in cabin were impossible to use - no matter how much butter or oil we used everything stuck - staying all week this made it impossible to cook anything. Mini golf course could use an update. Their mini water fountain was disgusting and needs a major cleaning - was nice we got to do mini golf outside KOA for free - overall great stay - would add more but at limit

The Mount Rushmore KOA at Palmer Gulch is wonderful. This was the third time we have stayed there. Took our friends this time and they are now planning their 40+ family member trip to stay there. There is something for everyone there! I highly recommend renting a Jeep from Mystic Gulch for a day and ABSOLUTELY doing the Chuck Wagon Dinner. This is a beautiful place and you will not be let down.

We were in site 500 and our friends 501 and the sites were great. The entertainment for kids was great. Ice cream shop was one of our favorites. We will be back next year. All the employees were wonderful. The guy that was in the bike shop deserves a big raise he was the best.

The camping cabin took extremely long to cool down. If it had a screen door that would allow the main door to remain open and add to the air flow would have made the experience nearly perfect.

Cabin could have been a little clearer. Had to throw out our socks at the end of the stay. Bathrooms / showers were much worse than I remember from our last stay.

great resort but the first site we were assigned was terrible, moved to a w&e site which was nice but really unlevel

Bigger is not all ways better. Staff is not well trained. Rv sites are either in a field or side of a hill. Sites are small and not very level. If I was coming back to this area I would look elsewhere.

This KOA is awesome! There are so many fun options for kids. The Peak restaurant was just so-so, but the store had good options. The bathrooms are great. The sites are a bit crowded, but overall it was a fun place to stay.

This is a beautiful camp ground and well maintained. Tons of activities for all ages. Would definitely stay here again. With that said, they do not answer their phones and when asked about why they do not answer their phones they simply say “oh, the phone hasn’t rang all day”! The biggest issue we had is the lack of information anyone at the campground had. Do your research!

The tent camp sites were all on a hill/slope making it very uncomfortable sleeping

Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful campgrounds with tons to do.

Stayed 2 nites in patio site. Loved grilling dinner. Enjoyed new pool & water slide. Took trail ride & chuckwagon dinner. It was like a one stop shop and close to Mt. Rushmore &Keystone & Custer State Park. Grateful for golf cart rentals, as we are getting older and this made it more enjoyable to get around. Stayed here 10 yrs. ago, last time we were in Black Hills & you have only gotten better!

Hosted a family reunion here and used the Reunion Hall. Beautiful and equipped place to host it.

We enjoyed our stay!! We love all the kids activities that you offer!! Not impressed with there being more gravel, less grass at the camp sites in the 400’s. The shower curtains need replaced more often as they are Gross and the vents in the shower need cleaned.

We enjoyed all the amenities offered at the campground and had a great time. I would recommend getting a golf cart if you can afford it as things can be a far distance away depending where you are. I enjoyed the epic mountain views and two swimming pools. The onsite paid amenities are costly but the horseback riding was fun for the kids. Was within driving distance of a lot of attractions.

Um…AMAZING! We camped here for 5 days during Sturgis. There was a rodeo free to campers one night, and various music entertainers each night and horseback riding available each day. We missed the chuckwagon but there was all you can eat pancakes each morning for $3.99 and on site pizza, ice cream and coffee. We needed to stay longer to enjoy the many amenities. We will be back.

The resort is located in an island with cell phone reception... the free Wi-Fi was just okay, but I thought it could have been improved. The prices of groceries were extremely inflated. I paid $10 for a 12 oz squeeze bottle of kraft mayonnaise.. it's unnecessary for you all to increase the price by over 100%. The International exchange students make cheap labor, but they were clueless/unhelpful.

Overall, It was a very good stay. We got our usual kamping cabin back. Same missing peg in the towel bar. I fixed it again. Had a little trouble getting the Can Am through the drainage rut along the drive way. The front cowling/under carriage scraped on the ground. Adding a little gravel would help. Pan cake breakfast lacks the personality of the former owners. Minor items, but notable.

My experiences at KOA's have not been great...up until this point. We planned a Mt Rushmore trip, and I am 100% happy we chose the KOA to stay. 3 days and 4 nights. We went over Memorial Day weekend. You will get rain and some inclement weather. We packed most of our food, but we did partake in the pancake breakfast. Kid loved it. We rented a UTV for an afternoon for 2hrs. Worth it. You go on the back trails, and if you are adventurous enough, go on the gnarly trails too. You can drive UTV's on the open road here as long as yours is street legal with plates, I believe. This was the perfect base camp for the following activities in the area: Mt Rushmore, Bear Country, Keystone, Hill City, Rapid City, The 1880 Train (the train was ok, good for kids who haven't been on an old steamer.) The camp grounds themselves are great! Pool, shopping, horseback riding, little shops to visit. We made some really great memories here. Thanks, KOA! PS: Keep in mind, this area is 'Merica friendly...In other words, treat people right and you'll be treated right. Do not play games with the locals, the black hills are vast. Just sayin.

This campground is awesome for everyone. We have been coming here for 5 years now at least one time year usually in August. We have 4 kids from age 5 to 15 and they all love it here. It has 2 pools playgrounds volleyball horseback riding utv rentals bike rentals restaurants ice cream shop small store for groceries and camping stuff wine shop and the kids love to play with all the other kids there. We don't have a camper so we stay in the cabins and they work great for the 6 of us. They have multiple bathrooms and shower house throughout the grounds to use and a laundry mat there. We never had any problems staying here and will keep coming back every year. There is a lot of things to do within an hour drive also. I would definitely recommend this place for people with kids of all ages.
