Campground Reviews

We stayed there several times and it has always exceeded our expectations. It is very clean and the staff are friendly. We are retired and would love to take our grand kids there.

Beautiful campground! Very nice people working there.

Nice back in site, pretty level. We had a huge open grassy area behind us. I would LOVE to have been able to score the park up where it should be, however they have a breed ban in place not only for Pit Bulls, but German shepherd and several other breeds. This is the first KOA (we have stayed at many) we have stayed in that bans dogs!

I was disappointed that all the amenities closed down at Labor Day.

Beautiful venue. Nice and very helpful people. Good sale in gift shop

Very nice place. Only real complain is that the WIFI was virtually unusable. This was made worse due to the no cell coverage on Verizon. I expected more from a KOA "Resort."

Pros: Great location. Well maintained. Water and electric hookups worked well. Surprisingly strong wifi. Cons: Very small sites for such a large property. No pathways to the restrooms (requiring a very long walk around the end of the road). Dog waste on site. No firewood delivery to site.

Very clean and very helpful staff and yes I have already spread the word about your KOA beautiful place

I was really bummed that the ice cream shop and coffee shop were closed for the season. Seems like they should stay open on weekends at least in sept. There was plenty of people camping on the weekend. Also the shower in our cabin had dark hairs in it. And the floor boards right in inside our front door of our cabin were so soggy and rotten it felt like you could fall through them!

Very nice campground in a more central location of the Black Hills. This is the second time we have stayed there. Both times have been great. Very clean with lots of things to do.

Price should reflect the fact that everything was closed for the season.

Our 2nd time at this KOA. Last year was amazing. This year we arrived on 9/3. A lot of things were closed for the season and seemed like most workers did not want to be there. Complete 180 from last year. Not enjoyable. I understand the season ends on Labor Day, but don’tfeel like it was clearly communicated that events like pancake breakfast would not be offered. Nobody seemed to want to

Awesome place it offers everything you want and or need!! Wish our schedule would have allowed us to stay longer.

Shop was expensive, everything shut down after Labor Day. Doesn't participate in the Sept 5th free night of camping. I would not have booked this KOA if I knew. Cabin was nice though.

Nice campground with plenty of amenities for campers of all ages. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Poor to no WIFI. I was staying during the off season, with not many campers. I imagine during the busy season the wifi is even worse. There are other campgrounds, in Keystone, next time I will stay there

While the KOA resort seems to have a lot to offer we arrived Sept 2 the day after Labor Day and found most of the “resort” extras closed. No horses to see, stores and snack bars closed. I found this disappointing and aggravating.

Beautiful park. We got the site with concrete patio ,patio set, and gas grill. Stayed 3 nights and loved it Quiet and convenient. Even rented a car there as we have a motorhome. Staff was awesome. Very kind and helpful

We have stayed at a lot of different KOAs and this location was amazing and offered so much not just at the KOA but how centrally located to everything within the Black Hills area it is nothing is to far away. Will definitely be coming again if we are in the area

We arrived on Labor Day to find most amenities closed, and yet we paid full price. It erks me that we booked early so we didn’t get the 3 night promotion that others received. We were looking forward to dinner only to find that the small lunch dinner was offered instead of the full dinner menu. Please deliver on expectations. Location was great but feel we over paid.

It’s a beautiful campground. Very well maintained. Fun activities for everyone. We stayed here as our home base and traveled to points of interest. Would highly recommend this campground.

We had a wonderful stay. Would have been perfect if the amenities would have been open. You’ve got a great place. If we are out this way again we will definitely stay again.

Was surprised by the lack of cell service that prohibited calls and our internet hardware. The Wi-Fi was spotting and difficult to access during half our 4 night stay. The location and staff were great,

Every employee was a 10! Very helpful and friendly! BUT: you charged us $30 to reserve the same spot we were in and paid top dollar for just 5 days before (or our way back home) , And this spot Was available and your campground was not even 60 percent full that night!! This was highway robbery!! Terrible of you to treat a good customer in this manner!!! You should refund if you care!!

Site was level and had a great view. Would like to have stayed longer, but they weren't able to accommodate us. The 2 sites they had available to stay through the weekend were the worst in the camp ground so we moved on to another KOA.

Great place to stay! We enjoyed the camp grounds, but we were a little disappointed most everything was closed for the season.

We stayed through the 3rd of September. We were disappointed that some of the amenities were not available on Labor Day. The horses were gone and some of the restaurants/shops were closed. We loved the amenities for for the children. Suggestion is to keep the amenities open for a little longer than Labor Day.

Great amenities! A bit dirty though. Cleaning should be done at certain time schedule. Not while people are using them. Great staff at the registration desk. Friendly and helpful. They all were kind and pleasant to talk with.

We always enjoy staying here with family or just Dean and I. We noticed that the Cafe no longer serves breakfast. Only lunch and dinner. We always enjoyed having breakfast. Especially day we are leaving campground.

Very disappointed, choose to stay here due to all the amenities only to find out they closed everything. You should really keep things open especially on a holiday weekend when you charge a premium for the stay. Campground looked great and sites nice, just disappointed in the experience.

Overcrowded - small campsites - expensive activities Beautiful landscape - close to adventures - friendly staff

Beautiful campground with amazing and friendly staff! We will definitely be coming back!

I would give this zero stars if possible. Amenities that should have been open were not (water slide, hot tub, etc), which was the only reason we stayed there. So many golf carts speeding around, driving insanely. So crowded, absolutely awful.

Our stay was everything we hoped it would be! Our children had a blast!

Unexpectedly incredible. I had no idea places like these even existed until we wanted to stop at a tent site on a whim. We will definitely seek out more KOA experiences in the future. The only bummer was that the horse stables were only open until Labor Day.

Overall, decent stay. A lot of fun things to do- horses were our favorite. Unfortunately, the pool near the lodge was always full and we could never get on the pickleball court, like we wanted. We stayed in one of the rooms for 3 nights and not once was our room cleaned up- I did not know until the last day that they don't come in the rooms without a request- this needs to be communicated at check-in (a family of four- there were towels piling up on the floor and would've been nice to have our trash taken out, plus we had to go to the desk to ask for toiletries and fresh towels). The lodge has very limited breakfast items (just cereals, muffins, yogurt, etc); would've been nice to have a free hot meal. TV didn't work for 3-4 days (offered very low compensation for this). While the front desk was overall helpful, there were times they could get snarky/short. Would've loved a fitness center/gym offered. Beds were comfortable. Water pressure in shower was good. Room on arrival was clean. Would come again.

We planned our vacation to the Mount Rushmore KOA Resort based on a recommendation from a friend. Since we aren't campers, we opted for a camping cabin, thinking it would be a comfortable alternative to traditional camping. Unfortunately, we were wrong. The website notes that the cabins do not have air conditioning, but it also suggests that it's not needed because temperatures cool off significantly at night. While that may be true under normal circumstances, it wasn't our experience. We visited during a stretch of upper-90-degree temperatures, and our cabin received direct sunlight for most of the day. Because of the cabin's location and window configuration, there was very little airflow. We ran three fans 24 hours a day and kept the front door open whenever we were at the site, yet the cabin didn't reach a reasonably comfortable temperature until after 1:00 a.m. each night. In addition to the heat, the beds were extremely uncomfortable. The mattresses were so firm that we may as well have been sleeping on the ground in a tent. The bottom bunk was especially difficult to use. There was very little clearance, making it hard to crawl in, roll over, or get out. I hit my head multiple times throughout the night. While the camping cabin was not a good fit for us, the resort itself was nice. The property is very large, but they also pack a lot of campsites into the available space. Our cabin site included a picnic table and fire ring, but there wasn't much additional room. We're used to having space to spread out, set up a grill, toss a ball around, and relax, and that wasn't really possible at our site. The bathrooms appeared to be recently renovated. The shower stalls were somewhat small and the water pressure could have been better, but everything was very clean and well maintained. The pools were decent and provided a welcome way to cool off, when they weren't temporarily closed for hygiene-related issues. I do wish there had been more shade around the pool area, such as umbrellas or covered seating. Because one of the pools was closed multiple times during our stay, everyone crowded into the remaining pool. It became too crowded for us to want to get in, and there wasn't enough shaded seating for parents who simply wanted to watch their kids swim. Ultimately, after two nights of miserable sleeping conditions, we decided to cut our stay short and move to a hotel. The staff were very understanding and apologetic about our experience. They refunded the unused nights without hesitation, and I was genuinely grateful for that level of customer service. Overall, if you're an avid camper who doesn't mind dealing with the elements, or if you're traveling in an RV, this is likely a great campground. As for us, we learned an important lesson the hard way: we're just not campers.
