Campground Reviews

We had a wonderful stay at your KOA! It was so close to Mount Rushmore. Seeing all the horses, the “polar plunge” waterslide, multiple pools, unique playgrounds with tons of extras, a guitar being played and old country songs being sung while we sit around fire pits eating ice cream right there at the campground… great experience! We loved it!

The best LOA to date It’s huge and so much for kids and adults to do Will recommend to anyone

Everything was good. Very well organized and convenient activities. However, no broadcast TV, no cable TV, no Cell Phone, no WiFi. I think this can be improved. This is 2025

We booked the chuck wagon dinner ride but were under a severe thunderstorm warning that completely ruined our experience with no apologies refund discounts or anything else. Overcrowded overpriced too small of rv sites not a wilderness experience at all. I would recommend the koa up the road. Esp if planning on going to see local attractions prefer to relax and not be bombarded with consumerism

The site I selected when I made reservation showed I would be in the shade, but I was given full sun light. That was misrepresentation. When I came into the campground I informeb the staff there that I lost my trailer brakes on the way in, they offer no help to find someone to fix them. When I asked to stay another day to get my brakes fix, they said they had no room, they did online.

Everything was very good but this day and age communication with the outside world is a must. There has to be cell service for even heath monitoring. Wi-Fi service is ok but not safe with all the scams out there. I probably would not come back because of that.

The location is great and the amenities are probably good for families. However the gravel roads are really rough and the bathrooms are far from campsites. All the food options are also really far. We have two dogs and the dog park was the smallest we’ve seen at a KOA.

We loved our spot! We were very frustrated with the WiFi. My elderly mother is back at home being cared for and I needed to be able to contact her caregivers. Verizon does not work in the area, and the WiFi the KOA offered was terrible. I was dropped every 3-5 minutes. For this reason, I wouldn’t stay there again.

The campsite was very nice and spacious. Everyone working at the KOA we very kind and gracious. The campgrounds are central to so many wonder places to visit. Would definitely stay again!

Friendly Staff and great amenities

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The downside was there was no rock climbing wall as advertised. Plus the hot tub was broken and no splash pad as seen n years past.

Very nice campground, lots to do, including riding horses, as we did. We planned on one night and decided to extend it to two nights. We are from Florida, but if we ever get back up that way, we will definitely stay there again.

The Premium tent site we had was a joke, nothing premium at all: very small path for the tent that was actually an incline making it very uncomfortable. Despite a lot of room (grass) all around us, the tent sites are unnecessarily closely spaced. The bathroom was in the middle of the full hookups instead where the tent sites are. Overpriced.

No phone service was bad

Loved our stay there. Friendly staff and beautiful area

I mainly look for a level site. This site was on the side of hill and had a downward slope. In addition to was sloped downhill. My motorhome finally settled with noticeable starboard list and down by the front by 3 degrees. Lots of costy amenities for a family but of no interest on a one night stay. Of 12 KOA’s utilized this trip this KOA gets the bottom ranking.

Our only complaint was the wait to try and order food when everyone in front of us was waiting on ice cream. We gave up and went to peak. Service was great, but food was not very good for the price. All staff were pleasant and helpful.

Great stay. Everything you need is there. Friendly staff.

We had a great stay, our kids enjoyed the activities and the site was nice. Shower rooms by the fun zone need some work.

Kids had lots of fun. Loved the Chuck wagon cookout.

Absolutely amazing adventure we had! Would recommend to all---except bring your own wifi--extremely poor connection and unable to connect most days. We had starlink so it worked out. I would come back again!!

VERY busy place! Pretty much a city by itself. Lots of things for kids to do. We rented a UTV for the trails and it did not disappoint. Pretty easy in/out with our 45' rig you just have to watch other vehicles who don't understand right-of-ways and how a big rig can't stop on a dime. The entrance is used for both entering and exiting. The staff were very friendly and helped us to our spot.

Fill up the potholes in the RV parking areas. # 180 was a mudhole. Some shower doors across from 179 and 180 are so tight they have to be shut with force. The molded shower stall shelves are so small they hold barely anything. The clothes hooks on the doors in the shower stalls are to short. Replace. Rental carts are running around all over and yet an employee stopped my daughter on an ATV.

Overall great place. Plenty of activities. My only two issues are tight spaces. Hard to even park your truck at the site. 2nd, having gift shop purchases going through the reservation line. I ended up not evening making a purchase. Maybe not my first pick next time I return to the area.

We had a great stay! The park is massive, extremely clean, a ton to do for everyone! The staff that we dealt with were all amazing! Looking to plan a longer trip for next year already!

Our site was level and spacious. We were glad to be in the area near the horse paddocks, and we enjoyed seeing them leave and return to their quarters over the days of our stay. The staff was always super friendly and helpful, and I'm sure they were busy all day long! The restaurant and prospectors tents offered very good food for a decent price. I was glad to not leave the campground on occasion.

Overall a great time & kids want to return as they had fun. We had a spacious campsite & appreciated a fairly updated clean bathroom/shower close by. I agree w/ many- limited shade areas & none @ pool. I brought my own umbrella to wedge over me when I got out to watch my kids but overall other than the pavilion-sorely lacking to find shade. Noise was ok & went quiet by 10 every night.

We had a great time. Been there many times before. Clean, friendly place to stay. A lot of amenities. Made it fun for our grandkids.

We loved this KOA so much that we cried when we left. The amenities are amazing, the location is perfect, and their staff is the absolute best! We can’t wait for our next trip back!

The stay was great, the amenities for the kids were awesome. The one area for improvement is the food at the Peak restaurant, it was not very good at all. My elk burger was dry, overcooked and flavorless. My husband’s brisket sandwich was dry as well. The service and staff were great however.

Amazing place and people

Overall a nice KOA resort. Definitely geared towards families with children. One thing that is missing...and it's a big miss...especially given the available space...is a decent dog park. The resort could easily set aside 1/2 to 3/4 of an acre of the huge lawn area for a fenced in dog park.

Very clean, friendly and good organized

Met my daughter's family there for the weekend, we had a great time seeing the sights and going to Hills Alive in Rapid City! As usual, Palmer Gulch KOA is several notches above the typical camping experience.

Mt. Rushmore KOA @ P.G.: great location for exploring surrounding areas in the South Dakota Black Hills w/ not too far a drive to Badlands National Park. Good for families with children. But the sites are close together with very little room for trucks, hauling vehicles. If decent WiFi is important, this is NOT the place to stay even for basic texting on property w/ travel partners. Staff: Helpful

A great family stay! We loved our cabin - clean, comfortable, and perfect with kids. So many activities, food options, and amenities that we spent a lot of time enjoying the resort. Also a great location to access so many other attractions in the area.
