We camped in a 38 ft class A motorhome pulling a car trailer. Our site was perfect with plenty of room. The park was beautiful and kept up very well. The staff were all very nice and accommodating

Beautiful campground, convenient location. We rented a deluxe cabin & had 4 people for 4 days. Only a couple of complaints-we did not have potable water in our cabin. It was early in the season & the lines needed to be flushed. But nevertheless we shouldn't have to buy water to drink & to brush teeth. The other complaint is the office needs to be open longer hours.

We were at the park before all the amenities were fully open, but that was no issue. The park is so beautiful and well maintained. There are so many staff who are constantly active throughout maintaining, guiding and helping. Always with a smile. Must single out one guide who made our stay even better. Lenny is very personable and gave us great suggestions and help. Really enjoyed meeting him.

This campground was beautiful and in the middle of all your desired tourist sites. The staff was amazing and so friendly. I can’t say enough good thing about this place, they have everything to keep your family busy. If we ever get to come back to this area this will be where we go. Thank you to all the wonderful staff that made our trip so enjoyable.

Beautiful place! My family and I really enjoyed ourselves! However it would’ve been beneficial to put on the website or app that your amenities aren’t open (hot tub, bounce, etc.) I understand it goes by weather but we thought our kid would get to enjoy these things but they were all closed. Besides that we still had a great time. Workers were wonderful!

We really enjoyed the deluxe cabin and all of its amenities.

Matress in camping cabin needs to be replaced, the mattress has certainly extended its lifespan. The cabin was not well maintained- it was dirty on arrival - and clear the cleaning crew do not clean under the mattresses. Better training for staff- anytime we asked a question none of the staff knew the answer ( said they were new). Water from spicket was awful- you could see the particles.

There are two things that we would urge you to consider: the laundry facilities are inadequate based on the number of units you have. There was one washer out of commission and one dryer would not heat (not detected until our money was already put in). Open your fun facilities a week or two ahead of Memorial Day for us early birds wanting to beat the crowds.

There’s a ton of things to do at the KOA. Very clean laundry facilities and bathrooms. There’s a lot of employees ready and willing to help. Definitely, had a great experience.

Great all around

I was very disappointed that they didn’t offer any amenities while we were there. The restaurant wasn’t open the pizza place closed early and there was no food options available. They didn’t offer the breakfast that they usually offer even though there was people there they said it was too early in the year to start all that stuff. Would like to have had some food options at the resort.

Check in and out was very smooth. The deluxe cabin was very clean and had a great outdoor space. The resort is in a perfect locations for all near attractions, I would 100% recommend Mount Rushmore Palmer Gulch KOA!!

Clean, everything worked, had a pull through with patio, firepit, and patio. Custer service was excellent. Well stocked store. Great location, easy access to Rushmore, Custer Park, Needled Hwy, 1880 train ride, easy drive to Wooly Mammoth Museum, Custer City and Hill City. 5 star facility, a bit pricey, but the accessibility to all the sites balances out the cost. I would stay there again!

This KOA is very nice - awesome!! The staff is very helpful and super friendly. Nice sites and the support facilities were great. We will come here again sometime.

Great camping experience friendly staff

The only negative I have about this KOA was that being there May 12-16 the onsite bar/grill wasn’t open yet. The ice cream, coffee, bar/grill don’t open until Memorial weekend. I’m sure they’ve done their research and this works for them, me being selfish would’ve loved hitting up the bar/grill instead of driving into town. Over all you can tell it’s a nice facility w/ very clean restr

Our favorite place to stay in the Black Hills.

So far, our favorite campground!

Say very large, beautiful campground. It has all the amenities. However, we were not told that the restaurant coffee and all would not be open until memorial day weekend. we arrived May 15 and all of the facilities were closed. The pool was clearly marked on the website as opening until May 23 . The website needs to be updated to reflect the exact dates when the other amenities will open.

Great location and all the amenities you could imagine. Started our 4-day stay with view of mountain but then a massive 5th wheel moved into the site in front of us and suddenly felt like a narrow site with no view. Staff was fantastic and you can’t beat the location to Mt. Rushmore & Crazy Horse.

Nice campground, with nice showers and hookups

We were only there overnight, but saw all of the things that you have available. It is one of our new favorite RV parks. We are going to plan a family vacation there soon. Thanks you for your hospitality. Very nice park.

Best KOA I ever stayed in. Staff was nice and helpful. Beautiful and exceptionally kept

We have traveled from Maryland to California and this is the nicest campground we have stayed in. Some of the amenities weren't open because it was out of season, but they have SO many! It is a short drive to Mount Rushmore and a little longer to Crazy Horse and Custer State Park, all of which I highly recommend. All of the staff we met were so friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

Unfortunately we were very disappointed in our stay. The bathrooms and showers were not clean for most of our stay & the laundry was mostly not working making it quite difficult to get it done. Staff did not seem concerned when brought to their attention & only made excuses as to why things were that way. Also when we were taken to our site the staff got lost and had us going in circles. Not good

The staff were very helpful to help us find a great (private) quiet spot. Jeff really made us feel important and understood our needs Thank you!! Great location to both. Punt Rushmore and Crazy Horse

We had a nice stay. The camp staff were very helpful when needed. One concern was only one laundry room was available when the park was 30% to 40% full. To top that off of the 5 washers available only 2 worked. We stayed 4 days and the washers were not fixed as of the day we left. We ended up going to the city of Custer to do our wash.

The Mt Rushmore KKA Camp Grounds was a great choice, as it was perfectly positioned near all the major attractions. The staff at the facility were so kind, friendly, and truly knowledgeable about the best places to visit and where to go. We also appreciated the pristine laundry facilities, with modern, well-maintained machines that washed our clothes thoroughly.

Overall, decent stay. A lot of fun things to do- horses were our favorite. Unfortunately, the pool near the lodge was always full and we could never get on the pickleball court, like we wanted. We stayed in one of the rooms for 3 nights and not once was our room cleaned up- I did not know until the last day that they don't come in the rooms without a request- this needs to be communicated at check-in (a family of four- there were towels piling up on the floor and would've been nice to have our trash taken out, plus we had to go to the desk to ask for toiletries and fresh towels). The lodge has very limited breakfast items (just cereals, muffins, yogurt, etc); would've been nice to have a free hot meal. TV didn't work for 3-4 days (offered very low compensation for this). While the front desk was overall helpful, there were times they could get snarky/short. Would've loved a fitness center/gym offered. Beds were comfortable. Water pressure in shower was good. Room on arrival was clean. Would come again.

We planned our vacation to the Mount Rushmore KOA Resort based on a recommendation from a friend. Since we aren't campers, we opted for a camping cabin, thinking it would be a comfortable alternative to traditional camping. Unfortunately, we were wrong. The website notes that the cabins do not have air conditioning, but it also suggests that it's not needed because temperatures cool off significantly at night. While that may be true under normal circumstances, it wasn't our experience. We visited during a stretch of upper-90-degree temperatures, and our cabin received direct sunlight for most of the day. Because of the cabin's location and window configuration, there was very little airflow. We ran three fans 24 hours a day and kept the front door open whenever we were at the site, yet the cabin didn't reach a reasonably comfortable temperature until after 1:00 a.m. each night. In addition to the heat, the beds were extremely uncomfortable. The mattresses were so firm that we may as well have been sleeping on the ground in a tent. The bottom bunk was especially difficult to use. There was very little clearance, making it hard to crawl in, roll over, or get out. I hit my head multiple times throughout the night. While the camping cabin was not a good fit for us, the resort itself was nice. The property is very large, but they also pack a lot of campsites into the available space. Our cabin site included a picnic table and fire ring, but there wasn't much additional room. We're used to having space to spread out, set up a grill, toss a ball around, and relax, and that wasn't really possible at our site. The bathrooms appeared to be recently renovated. The shower stalls were somewhat small and the water pressure could have been better, but everything was very clean and well maintained. The pools were decent and provided a welcome way to cool off, when they weren't temporarily closed for hygiene-related issues. I do wish there had been more shade around the pool area, such as umbrellas or covered seating. Because one of the pools was closed multiple times during our stay, everyone crowded into the remaining pool. It became too crowded for us to want to get in, and there wasn't enough shaded seating for parents who simply wanted to watch their kids swim. Ultimately, after two nights of miserable sleeping conditions, we decided to cut our stay short and move to a hotel. The staff were very understanding and apologetic about our experience. They refunded the unused nights without hesitation, and I was genuinely grateful for that level of customer service. Overall, if you're an avid camper who doesn't mind dealing with the elements, or if you're traveling in an RV, this is likely a great campground. As for us, we learned an important lesson the hard way: we're just not campers.
