The site i was at terrible for my size unit. The spot was in the middle of a far removed corner. The site was slanted down hill. The guest next to me had a tent so close it was in contact with my waste pipe. The morning I left had to go up a hill and turn to get out the ground was wet and hill steep I actual slipped truck and trailer. You have a wonderful place I got a terrible site.

It had been over 12 years since we had last visited your resort. I was impressed by the changes that continue to make it even better. Although it was quite busy, I would say it is managed very well. There was only one issue that I was unhappy with and that was the number of unsupervised children in the hot tub. At times there was up to 15 children under the age of ten in the hot tub frequently

Our kids loved the amenities even though we only stayed 1 night while traveling through the area. They were begging to stay another night!

It was a fun place to stay. One down fall the pool by the kids zone was closed two days out of our trip. Also the kids that work at the kid zone was just messing around on the first day not showing a good example for my young kids.

The floor in our cabin right at the door had a rotten spot in it, and the TVs did not work, but other than that, we loved our stay

All the staff were so friendly and helpful. The campsites/Restroom/Showers were clean and well kept. Lots of activities for the kids to do there. We had a very enjoyable stay there. Highly recommend.

The campground was clean and staff were great, however the campground is like living in the city which is not what I prefer when I’m on vacation. So if the city life is what you prefer then this campground is the best place for you. If you want peace and privacy, then I do not recommend this campground for that.

We had a wonderful time. However, an additional hot tub would be nice. Also, a sign saying no children in the hot tub, as everytime it was full if toddlers that were below 3ft tall and we always had a struggle to find a time that we could sit in it. The gentlemen that drove us to our camp site was exceptional. When driving by would always joke with us. The maintenance guy that fixed our was great

After a rocky start at check-in we had a good time. My grandsons enjoyed the water slide, the pedal cars and the horses. The staff always acknowledged you wherever we were.

It was hot there was no air-conditioning in cabin we had to hike down the hill to a bathroom there were no screen door on cabin they charge 40 dollar dog fee if your going to charge this much for a small cabin fix them

EXPENSIVE. And the people in charge of renting the golf carts were incredibly rude. The fact that you can’t rent until 1pm and return it in the morning I find almost 100 dollars for under a day unreasonable.

This is the second summer we spend at the Palmer Gulch KOA with our grandkids. They love it! They especially enjoy the pools and all the activities. They spend the entire year asking when are we going back to camp! Thank you!

I loved that our cabin was at the end of the road so it was relatively quiet. I loved how responsive the front desk was to our needs and communicated with us several times when necessary. The water slide and pools and bouncy pillow were big hits with our kids. We loved the gas grill/deck/outside furniture/large outdoor space at our cabin. We have stayed at Palmer Gultch KOA for 7 years in a row now. This is the first year I wouldn't give it a 10/10. The water slide was broken most of our trip. The kids activities weren't organized and were missing items necessary to complete them. Our water was shut off briefly for maintenance. And now it cost us $100 to lock in our site for next year for year 8. Hope next year is better.

The site was level and clean. Staff was great. Campground is very busy with kids enjoying the amenities.

We love staying here. The amenities are fantastic. This is the first year we booked our stay for next year before we left. It’s ridiculous the cost went from $30 to $100 to reserve a particular cabin. I only reserve a specific site due to my handicap mother that comes with us. We like our spot on level ground for her safety and ability to ambulate without falling.

Top notch resort campground. Very family friendly. The sites are tight. Great staff. We would like to recognize Luz and Q for their outstanding service at the Peak restaurant. Also Lenny for his daily pup treats.

There were many activities at this resort. I'm sure this place is great for kids. Although the rule is dogs on leash and pick up poop. It wasn't enforced.

Stayed just one night, Steve was AMAZING, he helped us check in with our camper trailer, he even walked my wife into to the check in desk to make sure everything went smoothly. Only complaint is that the pool/slide did not open at the posted time the next morning because the guy way still cleaning them. Kids were lined up but then got turned away.

Our camping spot had lots of tall grass and we were crammed in. The waterslide wasn’t open until 8 PM as advertised & pools were overcrowded. Everything was overpriced.

We had a 30 amp site for a trailer camper. The site was pretty narrow, our slides couldn’t completely extend and the picnic table was falling off the edge of the site (we were in 542). The fun zone, stables, and store were great. I wish the handicapped restrooms was marked as I showered my disabled son in a regular stall and then found the handicapped one later.

Great tent campsite on a lake, wonderful amenities. Would be a nice place to stay several days.

Such a great family campground. So much to do for all ages. Great activities, great pools and slides. Close to all area attractions as well. Beautiful area!

There was no one to escort us to our site. We waited over 15 minutes and went inside twice to ask. Finally we just went on our own. Too busy for our liking. Also, two five year old girls were wandering around and I helped get back to the small waterslide pool. No adults were in sight. There was no sign that I could see requiring adult supervision and a teenager was in charge of the slide.

This was my first ever KOA stay! It was amazing from check in to check out. Beautiful area. I will be back one day soon. Thank you for everything. The bathroom, showers & laundry room was clean and beautiful. I did not use a lot of what you offered but I did walk the entire area and saw how much fun everyone was enjoying. The dog park was a favorite for my fur kids! Beautiful store.

My husband and I and our dogs stayed 4 nights. The amenities and the employees were fantastic! I believe the thing that also stood out compared to other places we've stayed is how cleaned and well maintained this facility is. No garbage, Lawns trimmed immaculately, and very green grass areas. I highly recommend to stay here if you're visiting Rushmore and the surrounding areas.

We absolutely loved our stay. We brought our grandchildren with us and every day was an adventure. They loved the daily activities provided by your staff. Staff were so friendly in all departments. We definitely enjoyed every day. Also, the location was great to tour the monument, and the other tourist attractions.

Bathrooms, showers need a severe cleaning. Black goop clearly visible. Any management should have identified the problem as much as it cost per night having dirty showers and dirty rooms are unacceptable. A small electric power pressure washer would easily clean the area and make it acceptable.

Second stay at Palmer Gulch KOA, Great location & lot of things to do at the campground & surrounding area. The staff of the KOA are really nice and try to make you feel at home on the campgrounds. The only negative comment on 07/22/2026 in evening we went in to purchase some items at the gift shop, and the male cashier lacked any customer service skills, did not see us with our purchases.

Bathrooms and shower house clean. Check in person kind. Looks like a lot of outside items need upkeep. Some items in bad shape and some do not work. You should have a jumping pad or time for younger kids only to use it.

Incredible place with so many activities. We even payed us a nice restaurant on the campground ! So many horses ready to take you around... neat restrooms. Too bad we had to leave ! Thanks to the nice KOA team.

Not enough washrooms or showers for the tent/cabin area. Waited a very long time to use the showers. No wash pit to do dishes close to cabin. It was very inconvenient to do dishes. A lack of air conditioning during a heat wave made our sleep very uncomfortable. Overall we were very disappointed in our stay.

It was busier and more crowded than I thought it would be. The cabin was clean and met our needs. The bathrooms got dirty quickly.

Palmer Gulch is such a fun place to go, with a ton of activities available. It is very well maintained, and the staff and very helpful and kind. Our only recommendation- the mattresses in the 2-bedroom cabins are very hard- recommend replacing those. Otherwise, great stay.

This jam packed KOA has it all. 2 pools. Waterslide. Playgrounds. Restaurants on the property. Horseback riding. Rodeo. UTV rentals. Lots of activities for the kids. Bounce pillow. It's right down the road from Mount Rushmore. Bathrooms were cleaned regularly. Cell phone reception is pretty poor, but you can't blame KOA. WiFi is pretty good if you are near their hotspots. There was always KOA employees ripping around, which they should slow down a little bit. We did experience the bees as mentioned by other reviewers. Everyone had a great time and we enjoyed our stay.

Great first experience with KOA! The reservation process was easy, and changing our dates was very convenient. Communication with Dee Dee before arrival was excellent, and check-in was quick and easy. The campground was clean, especially the bathrooms, and all the guests were very respectful. The sites are a little close together, so I would probably avoid the busy summer season. Overall, we were very impressed and would definitely stay here again!
