Great location and easy access to Smokey Mountain NP. We had a cabin w/o bath. Positives: clean bathhouse with large roomy showers; quiet location and secluded; amazing laundry facilities with A/C; nice pancake breakfast (fundraiser) in the morning. Negatives: bathhouse was up the hill on 2 flights of stairs which is not well lit; mostly gravel drives except front where RVs were.

Really enjoyed our camper cabin. We stayed here while we had family reunion activities in Black Mountain. My kids loved the jumping pillow, pool, and hanging out with other kids. It was very quiet at night and easy to get to the bathhouse. Everyone was so kind and considerate, and they are doing a great job rebuilding after hurricane. We will return!

We were only able to stay for a long weekend. But, it was an exceptional experience. A lot of fun activities for the kids!

Jill charged us $35 per dog x 3! Never in all my years of coming there have I ever been charged; And Jill was very argumentative! Not to mention she gave me the wrong key to the cabin twice! The bed in the cabin felt as if a hole was in the center of the mattress. Jill needs classes on her customer interaction skills! She IS the representative of KOA, and not a good one at that!

love this campground and glad to see it back open .

I don’t think there is a better run campground out there! The staff were so friendly, organized and helpful! Everything was spotless (I stayed in a cabine), well maintained. There were so many RVs there and I understand why anyone would want to stay there. The staff were very visibly around and available. I would highly recommend!

We felt welcomed, included, and cared for throughout our stay. The staff was kind, present, and accommodating. The cabin was perfect for our needs and we hope to.come.back again this Summer!

My cabin was amazing. Heard shorebirds and thrushes while lying in bed.

Deluxe cabin fully furnished no TV or oven. Clean great water pressure. Close to Black Mountain with great stores. Get there early they roll up the streets at 5pm

I stayed on the Deluxe Cabin. Great size for a small family. Clean and well stocked with amenities. The view from the porch is nice. Check-in was easy. I arrived after the office was closed but was given very clear instructions on finding my check-in packet. The staff in the office were welcoming and knowledgeable. So happy to be able to stay again and will be back.

So glad y’all reopened! It’s bittersweet to see the impact of Helene but we loved some of the new amenities like the jumping pad and gem mining! Our kiddos loved the arts and crafts with Eric! While things look different it’s still the same great staff and experience!

Our stay was amazing! We brought our grandchildren with us and there were so many awesome activities on Saturday! We all participated in the activities and truly enjoyed them! Our cabin was nice and secluded and the bathhouses were extremely clean. The staff were all courteous, efficient and friendly, especially Christy, Andy, Eric, Lisa and Jill! So glad you are rebuilding after the flood!

Everything was perfect and just what I needed! It's been a stressful couple of months and I needed a retreat...so sitting on the porch swing, looking at the river, listening to the birds, end enjoying the beautiful mountain views gave me the reset that I needed. The cabin, perfect, and what I've come to expect at a KOA. Special thanks to Jill! Very kind and helpful.

The cabin we rented was amazing. Very clean and had everything we needed. The gated porch was perfect for sitting out there with our dog to enjoy the amazing view of the lake. The overall campground was well maintained with lots of options to keep the kids entertained. Very convenient to get to both Black Mountain and Asheville. Highly recommend this location!

We had a BLAST. A fire every night! Our dogs got to play in the creek and go for long walks next to the ponds. The weather was perfect and bathrooms were clean. Everyone was so nice and friendly! Best KOA ever

We love this campground and can't wait to see all the updates over the next few years (following hurricane)
Mar 23, 2026
from check in to check out everything was great with only 1 exception. We stayed in a Kabin #11. It was clean and very nice but calling what we slept on a mattress is a stretch. Based on this experience with the mattresses we will not stay in another KOA Kabin unless one of the larger cabins with real mattresses is available. Fantastic experience if you remove the mattress from the equation.

Our family has stayed at this KOA many times in the past. It was jarring to see the changes since Helene, but the campground is clean and moving forward. They were very quick to make my stay there comfortable. The bathhouse was lovely, water hot, and lots of room in shower area. Views of the river spectacular. Hoping to make new memories again soon!

I was devastated to see the loss of all the cabins and amenities from the hurricane, this was always our go to when we needed a place to stay in Asheville. Our stay was still great and the staff was very pleasant. I hope they will be able to rebuild it back to its former great self. Good luck!

Rented the deluxe cabin for two nights. Staff were great, cabin was well equipped and comfortable. Would definitely stay there again.

So grateful to see the Swannanoa KOA open again! My wife and I have been regulars for years, and while it is heartbreaking to see the damage left behind by Helene, the spirit of this place remains. The service is just as top-notch as it was before the storm. We are rooting for your full recovery and can’t wait to watch the progress on our next visit. See you soon!

The Asheville East KOA is our home away from home. We live about an hour away and in previous years before Hurricane Helene, we would come at least once every two months for a long weekend. I am so thankful that this place was able to begin rebuilding. We will continue to come here as this feels like home away from home.

We had a great time at this KOA and the staff was awesome! Sincerely friendly and helpful. The area as many options for hiking and other activities. We'll be back!! Thank you.

Unfortunately, we were only able to stay one night, but really enjoyed our stay. Check in was super easy and the cabin was great! It was clean and comfortable. The location is perfect and the area is beautiful. The bath house was very clean! We will definitely be back for a longer stay!

We stayed in a deluxe cabin and stay was very nice. The campground did not offer wifi and thus cabin did not have a tv however it was nice to stay without the luxuries most campers like to have. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. We had privacy, DC3. The staff were very nice to work with since we stayed 1 week. We also saw plans to expand the campground.

The only thing that I didn’t like was the noise from the highway. This was my first stay at KOA, I stayed in a rustic cabin and it was very nice. The bathhouse and restrooms were clean and functional. I stayed here as part of my Blue Ridge Parkway motorcycle trip this year. Would definitely stay in a KOA cabin again somewhere. Thanks for a great alternative to a motel room.

I originally was going to have a tent site, but there came a storm and the staff was very helpful in getting me into a cabin instead. The cabin was really nice and I enjoyed my stay. I was happy to have nice, clean bathrooms and hot showers with really good pressure.

A great experience. The staff are all so nice and efficient. The campground is very clean and well kept. This is actually our favorite KOA!! And we have been to KOAs from Pennsylvania to Montana and everywhere in between! There were do many activities! We brought out 2 grandchildren and we all had so much fun! We will definitely return!

Very enjoyable 1 complaint if bathrooms where closer to cabins on lake
Sep 13, 2024
I had a Kabin on the water. Nice view. Kabin had heat and A/C if needed. Staff were pleasant. Bathrooms fine with a great shower. There is a short walking path around the pond. Everything was clean. Location was close to Blue ridge parkway.

One of the nicest, well kept KOAs that I have ever stayed at. I'll stay there again when I'm next in the area
Sep 12, 2024
The deluxe cabin was perfect, the only thing I would improve is the shower temperature was warm not hot.
Sep 12, 2024
Unfortunately we were somewhat disappointed. The bed was very uncomfortable, the TV remote in the living room didn't work, there was ALOT of hwy noise, not to mention the 1am train whistle each morning, but the reason we checked out early was because we found mouse droppings under the kitchen sink.

This was my first stay at East KOA....I usually stay at West KOA close to family who live in Asheville... Now, I will ALWAYS stay at EAST KOA!!!! The staff was so friendly and accommodating and I felt safe there. I sometimes travel alone and it is comforting to know that you are open around the clock and patrol around. Good job!!

Beautiful campground! Have stayed at this one over 10 times as an adult and also stayed as a kid! People are always very nice and my dogs and I love staying here!

Our first time back since Helene. We had the best time. The staff that is there now were so kind and welcoming. The activities for the July 4th holiday were great for all ages. We hope to come back the first of August if something opens up, as of now no availability 😞 Only thing that was kind of an issue was our campsite didn't have any water pressure.

Great location and easy access to Blue Ridge Parkway. We had a cabin w/o bath. Positives: clean bathhouse with large roomy showers; quiet location and secluded; amazing laundry facilities with A/C; nice pancake breakfast (fundraiser) in the morning; incredibly friendly staff with lots of tips about what to see and do in the area. Negatives: bathhouse was up the hill on 2 flights of stairs which is not well lit, depite what the staff told us; mostly gravel drives except the front where RVs were. I travel frequently on motorcycle for touring and camping and this is not where I'd stay.
