Campground Reviews

We had an absolute wonderful stay. KOA East is very clean, well maintained, perfect for families and their pets. Christy and Tim are doing a fantastic job. We have stayed at this campground for the past 15 years. We have seen changes from the terrible hurricane. This campground has gone above and beyond to make it a great place for campers to visit the Asheville area.

Christy helped me fix a mistake I made in our reservation and told us about some places to visit at our next destination. Andy helped me unhook my tow dolly and placed it in the back of our back in spot, he then directed me as I backed into the spot. This couple is a Dynamic Duo and an asset to KOA. The park was beautiful and well kept

Great location and easy access to Smokey Mountain NP. We had a cabin w/o bath. Positives: clean bathhouse with large roomy showers; quiet location and secluded; amazing laundry facilities with A/C; nice pancake breakfast (fundraiser) in the morning. Negatives: bathhouse was up the hill on 2 flights of stairs which is not well lit; mostly gravel drives except front where RVs were.

Really enjoyed our camper cabin. We stayed here while we had family reunion activities in Black Mountain. My kids loved the jumping pillow, pool, and hanging out with other kids. It was very quiet at night and easy to get to the bathhouse. Everyone was so kind and considerate, and they are doing a great job rebuilding after hurricane. We will return!

We stayed one night driving through to home and our stay was great. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They are really working hard to rebuild after Hurricane Helene. They are doing a great job. Would definitely stay again.

Staff there was great, location was perfect for any motorcycle enthusiasts wanting to ride the beautiful roads in NC. The only thing that would’ve made my trip better is if the “lakes” were in better condition. Again the staff Luke, Doug and Lisa was great, thank you all for a beautiful week for us.

Love this campground overall. We stayed two nights, our last stop in a month long trip from Raleigh to Austin and back. Campground is clean and well kept, great location, and friendly staff. Our site, B24, was not long enough for both our fifth wheel and truck, but parking across the street was convenient enough. Hope to be back soon.

Very well maintained tent site. Staff was welcoming and extremely helpful, even while preparing to close the office. Will stay here again.

First time at this campground - overnight stop. As others have noted, the campground is still recovering from the Helene impacts. We had a level gravel site long enough to keep our 33’ TT hitched overnight. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

Only stayed overnight, but what a great setting! Got the premium site on the river, could have stayed there for a week! Friendly staff, highly recommend!

The staff was super helpful and the site perfect.

Very nice campground. Making great progress since Helene destroyed it. Thanks KOA for bringing back our favorite campground.

We had a great time at the Asheville East KOA. Great staff and wonderful location.

We stayed at site A13 which had no shade. Other sites nearby had shade and would be a better choice for summer stays. Camp ground is kids friendly and has nice creek for kids to play in. I was glad to hear they are planning on adding more sites back. WiFi was good enough to stream TV.

The overall stay was amazing. Although there was confusion with our reservation, the staff was able to accommodate an additional night, which prevented a rush departure. This was our first trip in our first ever camper and Asheville East KOA made it memorable. The staff were tremendous and the campground accommodations were nice. The only issue was that the A/C went out in the bath house.

Fantastic place and excellent, friendly staff. Very impressed. Will definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place near Asheville.

Nice, well maintained park. Site was a little on the smaller side but adequate. Good kampk9. Only complaint was low water pressure at the site. (Same complaint for a lot of campgrounds.) Waterpressure at 40# would be great.

Enjoyed

Exceptional stay. The rebuild after the hurricane is impressive—full resort-level property. Staff was outstanding, constantly helping campers. Our riverside site was perfect, pool great for kids, bathhouses spotless, wifi worked. Close to Black Mountain, Asheville, Mount Mitchell. One of the best KOAs we’ve experienced. Highly recommend.

First time there and it was ok, i don't think it was worth the money. Went to the pool and the pump wasn't on, a lot of leaves and stuff floating in the water. The flood done a lot of damage and looks like it will be a long time before anything is done. The staff was great, the facilities just weren't what I expected.

Great view, everyone was very helpful and friendly. We had a site on river and the view was perfect.

Great location as a base for exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway. Campground was clean and well maintained. Management was quite pleasant.

campsite was really nice and roomy, obviously miss the old campground that was before the flood, but overall still great. However the new bathhouse had ac units but they never ran, taking baths was pretty rough with no air flow.

This was a very nice smaller KOA, very clean, quiet, friendly management and workers.thw sites were easy to get into and decent room.

Very nice campground.

Lovely campground in a great location - close to Asheville and Black Mountain. While all but destroyed during Hurricane Helene, KOA staff are doing a great job bringing it back. New laundry & shower rooms. Lovely pool area. We can’t wait to see all the renovations that are yet to come.

BEST CAMPGROUND EVER!

This is our favorite campground, hands down! Best staff, best facilities, best activities!

Post hurricane Helene: continual improvements and upgrades. Team highly motivated, friendly, and ultra helpful. Amenities being repaired and brought online. Definitely will return.

Great people need a lot of work on the campground! More riding around in golf carts instead of doing something to beautify the park!
Jun 18, 2026
Great place. Staff is friendly and the place is very clean. Staff was going around wiping down the picnic tables at the vacant sites. Close to the Asheville attractions. I recommend going into the Village of Black Mountain about 5 minutes away. Great little area is shops and restaurants.

It’s so great to see the investment in bringing back this campground after Hurricane Helene! We loved our riverfront site. That river access is special!!!! Who needs a pool with the river? It has deeper spots and shallow spots - mountain perfection! The staff were lovely and welcoming! The road noise some comment on is what it is! The benefits of the camp and the river way outweigh road n

We stayed in the Deluxe Cabin and it was perfect! So glad to be able to continue to make more great memories here. The tent sites and cabins we normally stay in were taken out by the hurricane along with so much more so it was bitter sweet. It was our first stay back since Helene and they have worked so hard to recover. The mountain community still needs your support so plan your stay here. Thank you to the incredible staff!

This is a KOA campground not a hotel so I didn't rate the "rooms". We've stayed here for a week for a number of years (except when it was hammered by the flood) actually we were there the month previous to the storm. I will make comments about our 2026 stay. The campground is on the way to recovery. They are doing everything possible to provide campers with a great camping experience. We are camping a class A with a pull behind car. We stayed down on the river. (Saw lots of birds this year but no bear like last year.) The staff are very service oriented. We enjoyed taking our dogs around the lake over the bridge. Its not all open yet but gives a good walk. It was enjoyable sitting outside enjoying coffee with no mosquitoes (were from Florida). The campground has done a lot for the kids. It was great to see families doing stuff outside together. This is one of my favorite campgrounds and we will be back in 2027. I want to thank the owners and staff for their hard work getting this place going forward to be the premium campground it was before the flood. ( my opinion)

So great to see the Asheville East KOA back up and running after the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Talked to the new owners and they have plans for additional cabins in the future as they continue to rebuild. Our stay in the Deluxe cabin was great. The kitchenette was super useful with 4 burners, microwave, large refrigerator, and sink. Plus they had a Keurig coffee machine with a few Kcups for free. Bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispenser. Great outdoor deck with table and rocking bench. Kids loved the fire pit area. Will definitely come back and stay again.
