Make the most of summer with these last-minute summer camping escapes
There are a lot of great things about the summer months. Great weather, less responsibility, and longer days all make for one of the best times of the year. Unfortunately, and despite those longer days, the summer season always seems to absolutely fly by. That’s why it’s important to make the most out of the few precious months that we have to work with.
The good news is that outdoor adventures don’t always require a ton of planning and preparation. In fact, some of the most memorable times spent camping and engaged in other outdoor recreational activities are the ones that come together at the drop of a hat or at a moment’s notice.
One of the best last minute summer camping escapes is a simple backyard camping adventure. This is an especially good one for anyone with kids in the house. The excitement of being allowed to sleep outside in a tent is something that the kids will be buzzing about (and also begging you to let them do again) for weeks. This camping escape also happens to be one of the most simple to throw together. The luxury of having your house only steps away makes everything a whole lot easier. Grab some hot dogs to throw on the grill or cook over the fire, play some outdoor games as a family, catch some fireflies, and don’t forget the marshmallows either!
Here’s a challenge for another unique last minute summer camping escape: Find the closest campsite or campground to your house that you’ve never visited (KOA.com is a great place to start!) and spend a day or two there. Don’t do a lot of research before you leave — just find the campground, throw your gear in the car, and hit the road. I know…I know…it’s a risk. The spontaneous nature of the trip will make it memorable for a long time, especially if you share it with a couple good friends.
Spontaneity is one of the best parts about summer. Unfortunately, a lot of us start to lose that spontaneous nature as we get older and more responsibilities begin to become a part of our lives. But you’re never too old to do something spontaneous and create some new memories at the same time. Do something you’ve never done before or just get in the car and see where you end up.
Last minute summer camping escapes can only be done during the summer (obviously), so don’t let the days turn into weeks and months and realize the summer passed you by without having done something fun and exciting outdoors!
