Rum & Butter Apples & Pears

2 baking apples
2 pears
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 tablespoons brown sugar
3 tablespoons dark rum
1 teaspoon cinnamon
whipped cream (optional)

Peel, core, and cut the apples and pears in half.
In a bowl, combine the apples, pears, and lemon juice.  Toss the fruit pieces to coat them with the lemon juice.
Place the apples, pears, and lemon juice in the slow cooker pot.
In a bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, rum, and cinnamon.  Mix well.
Pour the mixture over the fruit in the slow cooker pot.
Cover and cook on low heat for 3 to 4 hours.
Place the hot fruit in dessert dishes.  Spoon the cinnamon-flavoured sauce over the fruit.
Top the fruit with whipped cream.

For a firmer consistency, check the fruit for doneness after 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
