These tasty baked donuts are sure to please whether at home or on a trip to your favorite KOA. Don’t forget the yummy chocolate dipping sauce! Trust us, you want these!
Ingredients
Donuts
1 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ milk + ½ tsp. vinegar
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
3 Tbsp. melted butter
1 egg
Topping
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
½ cup butter, melted
Chocolate Dipping Sauce
1/3 cup water
½ cup heavy cream or half-and-half
1 tsp. espresso powder
8 ounces bittersweet or semisweet chocolate
¼ tsp. cinnamon
pinch of salt
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 6-8 cup donut pan with cooking spray. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and cinnamon. In a measuring cup, combine milk and vinegar. In a medium bowl whisk together brown sugar, vanilla, melted butter and egg. Whisk in milk/vinegar mixture. Stir in dry ingredients until combined.
Spoon batter into a zip top bag, cut off one corner of the bag and pipe into prepared pan, filling ¾ of the way full. Alternately, use a pastry bag or simply spoon batter into pan. Bake for 10 minutes until tops spring back.
While donuts are baking, prepare topping. Melt butter in a small saucepan. In a small bowl whisk together sugar and cinnamon.
When donuts are done, cool slightly then dip in melted butter and roll in cinnamon sugar. Serve with Chocolate Dipping Sauce
For sauce, bring cream, water and espresso powder to a simmer in a medium saucepan. Remove form heat and add chocolate and salt. Let sit for 1 minute, then stir until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. If needed, return to low heat and cook until chocolate is fully melted.
