Our local area is known for lots of outdoor recreation. Lake McConaughy is a year round playground.  Ogallala is also home to many historical places such as Boot Hill and Mansion on the Hill. Enjoy your stay at a our campground and go up and spend some time at the Lake or at one of the many historical places around town.

In your geocaching adventures, be sure and check out the 10 caches placed by the Keith County Visitors Committee.  Just search for “Keith County” at www.geocaching.com. The show runs from Memorial Day weekend to mid-August.

Relive the Old West at Front Street Crystal Palace Revue. Step through our swinging doors and enter into 1870's Ogallala when cattle was king and gold was the form of payment. Lean up against our old rugged bar as cowboys reenact a gunfight on the streets of early Ogallala followed by the Crystal Palace Revue complete with saloon girls, pioneers, cowboys, and a night you won't forget.Our show is currently in its 58th season making it the longest-running summer stock theater in Nebraska. Enjoy an evening at the Crystal Palace Saloon and experience Ogallala at the end of the Texas Trail.

Lake McConaughy has 100+ miles of shoreline to explore, and there is a 2.5 mile long Hike/Bike trail on the east side of Lake Ogallala. Exploring the beaches and trails via fat tire bikes is also becoming very popular. The lake area is beautiful all year round, but the peace and solitude you'll find in winter add a truly special dimension to the experience.  Whether you're hiking for exercise or just taking a stroll, you'll have the chance to observe the unique geology, plants and wildlife activity in the lake area. Thanks for leaving only your footprints!

Kites and Castles is Lake McConaughy's longest running event.  Held every July--except once-- since 1989.
Built on the edge of a unique geographic formation known as the Sandhills means that this lake on the high plains of Nebraska has white sand to play in.
Bring the kids. Stay the day. Stay the weekend. Kites and Castles is a free event to enter or view. State park permit is required to enter the park.
