Galveston Island Revue Weekend

Galveston Island Revue Weekend

Kick off the summer season with Galveston Island Revue Weekend. This special weekend includes events from the past summer seasons to celebrate the times gone by in historic Galveston.

What Is Galveston Island Beach Revue Weekend?

Galveston Island Beach Revue Weekend is an homage to the vintage beauty of the 1920s. The weekend has fun events Friday through Sunday, including:

  • Bathing Beauties Contest: The highlight of the weekend is the Galveston Bathing Beauties Contest, where ladies model vintage swimsuits and parasols for the chance to win a sash and cash prize.
  • Classic cars: See classic retro “jalopies” at the Galveston Classic Car Show.
  • Vintage vendors: Shop for fedoras, swing dresses, art deco and other unique vintage pieces at the vendor market.
  • Live music: Listen to live music from local big band swing and rockabilly artists.
  • Food trucks: Get a taste of local cuisine at one of the many food trucks around the park.

The History of Galveston Beach Revue

Galveston Beach Revue started in the summer of 1920 as a beauty contest. Over the years, the beauty contest became the kick-off event for the tourist season every year. By 1928, the event was known as the bathing girl revue. Some say that the island pageants are the origins of the Miss Universe Pageant. Due to the onset of the Great Depression, the Galveston Bathing Beauties pageants ended in 1932. Decades later, in 2009, the city brought this event back as Galveston Island Revue Weekend.
