Attracted by its natural beauty and wildlife, philanthropist George W. Childs purchased this land in 1892. He developed a public park because he believed everyone, not just wealthy landowners, should be able to experience and appreciate being outdoors. The park was designed to highlight and enhance the natural and man-made amenities found here. In 1912, Childs' wife, Emma, deeded the land to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. George W. Childs Park became part of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in 1983 and the National Park Service is proud to continue Childs' vision and preserve this park for public enjoyment. The trail follows Dingmans Creek as it flows through a lush ravine, over three rushing waterfalls, and adjacent to the ruins of a mill and several structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Dingmans Creek boasted a dozen mills at its peak. At Factory Falls, the Brooks family ran a bustling woolen mill from 1823 to 1832, a rarity outside of big cities. The mill ruins are visible next to the waterfall. Fulmer Falls is a short distance downstream from Factory Falls. Here, the Civilian Conservation Corps built a rustic-style pavilion for a scenic picnic spot. Finally, the trail loops past a third waterfall, Deer Leap Falls. Other Information: the trail is accessible to the first waterfall (approximately a third of a mile, one-way); restroom located at trailhead. Restrictions: dogs and other pets not permitted; swimming and wading is not permitted anywhere within George W. Childs Park; must stay on the trail at all times.

Grey Towers was built in 1886 by James and Mary Pinchot as a summer retreat. It was James who first recognized the reckless destruction of natural resources that was overtaking the nation in the 19th century. James encouraged his eldest son Gifford to consider a career in forestry, thus introducing the idea of conservation to America.Gifford Pinchot went on to establish and serve as the first Chief of the US Forest Service, and he was twice elected Governor of Pennsylvania. Between family, friends and political associates, Grey Towers was always bustling with activity and was central to advancing the Pinchots' social, political and conservation ideals. In 1963 the Pinchot family donated Grey Towers and its surrounding 102 acres to the US Forest Service.

In the early 1960's our family began making candles in the kitchen. It didn't take long for the mess we created in the kitchen to become a little too much for Mom. We were then sent to the basement to make our candles. From here we began to grow into a business and in 1966 my father, Edwin Coover, registered the House of Candles name. In the early years my father made and sold candles to many stores and brokers who then resold our products. At one time we were making candles for Sears nationwide! At the same time this was going on we were in the beginning stages of our retail store. We began selling candles to the public for our wholesale prices. Word spread that a little candle shop off the beaten path was selling quality candles at a great price. The demand from our customers was so great that we had to discontinue the mass production of candles for our wholesalers. Our focus was now fulfilling the needs of our retail operation. Today, we are in the second generation of candle makers. Edwin's son, Eddie, and his wife Debra, now own and operate the business. Here at House of Candles we still manufacture all our own votive, pillar, jar and various other candle products on the premises. If you have the chance, you really don't want to miss our daily candle making demonstrations. We still do special orders and custom work for weddings, fundraisers, business functions, you name it, we will try our best to make it.

A guided walking tour lasting 30 to 45 minutes covers approximately 1200 feet of paved walkways that are well lighted. Several ramps and eight steps (traversed in both directions) must be negotiated and nature, as usual, did not allow the creation of a handicapped-accessible tour. The temperature in the caverns is a constant 52 degrees Fahrenheit (11 degrees Celsius), so a sweater or jacket is advisable and the walkways are often wet, so walking shoes are also advised. Bring your camera, too! There's a lot to discover in this magical land of crystal formations where the Lost River flows. The cavern and gift shop/visitors' center are not wheelchair or stroller accessible. Front baby carriers are permitted. Back baby carriers are not recommended. The following items are NOT permitted in the cavern: backpacks, oversized bags, strollers, walking sticks, umbrellas, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, video cameras, food, and beverages. The McDade Recreational Trail extends most of the length of the park and provides views of the river, charming streams, open farm fields, forests, and historic landscapes. The trail offers hikers, bikers, and cross-country skiers areas of varying difficulty, from easy to strenuous. With trailheads distributed between ½ and 5 miles apart, this trail offers a section for just about any visitor. Additionally, most trailheads are along the park's free bus route that operates on summer weekends. From Hialeah to Owens trailheads, the trail is mostly flat as it traverses former settlements and farms. From the Owens Trailhead on Freeman Tract Road, the trail switchbacks sharply up the side of the Hogback, or ridge, to the park's headquarters. Observation decks on the side of the headquarters facility provide wildlife viewing areas. Between park headquarters and Bushkill Access, the terrain becomes rolling hills. Numerous structures, foundations, and other traces remain from the once-thriving community of Bushkill. North of Bushkill Access, the trail follows a narrow ribbon of land between US 209 and the river and then continues nearly level through agricultural fields and forests to Schneider Farm. The next several miles of the trail are dominated by the river to the east and the cliffs to the west, with the trail and US 209 squeezed between in places. From Raymondskill Creek to Milford Beach, the Raymondskill Cliff parallels the nearly flat trail. The northern terminus of the McDade Trail is Milford Beach, a popular recreation site for local residents since 1945. Whether you start from this end, Hialeah, or a point in between, you are sure to find something to fit any mood. Regulations

The Pocono Snake & Animal Farm has been delighting kids of all ages for over 40 years. A perfect “starter zoo” for the little ones, who can bottle-feed the deer, goats, and pot-bellied pigs, or feed the monkeys and pet the rabbits. This family-owned and operated facility began over 30 years ago. Many of the animals and reptiles found their way here by “donation” because their previous owners were unable to properly care for their exotic pets. These animals now lead happier, healthier lives, getting the attention they deserve, and some have even made appearances with such celebrities as Jack Hanna and Steve “Crocodile Hunter” Irwin!
Some of the animals we provide homes for are: Blackbeary, our very personable black bear (she loves bear treats from our visitors), lots of fun-loving monkeys who show off for fruit and peanuts from fun-loving humans, a family of sloths, Madagascan ring-tailed lemurs, bobcats, raccoon, chinchillas, armadillo, a black leopard, petting animals, and many more. Feeding baby bottles to goats or potbellied pigs is a must when visiting! Our reptile collection will please even the fussiest herpetologist, who will fully appreciate the 14 foot King Cobra, 100-year-old, 150-pound Alligator Snapping Turtle, and outdoor pond equipped with alligators, goldfish, and turtles. The reptile display inside includes various exotics, from our African Puff Adder and Albino Monocled Cobra to Eastern Diamondback Rattlers and lots in between. Tips and Hints:

Vineyard History: Tolino Vineyards is a family-owned and operated nine-acre vineyard and winery established in 2007. We are committed to growing the finest grapes and preserving the pristine rural landscape while handcrafting artisanal wines. Our passion for winemaking grew out of our agrarian roots, our strong Italian heritage, and our love of spending time and sharing a glass of wine with our family and friends. Shortly after Carl Jr purchased the 76-acre farm at 280 Mount Pleasant Road, he was looking for suggestions on uses for the land. Carl's daughter, Mandy, thought that the hilly property with the beautiful views would be a perfect spot to grow grapes. The dream was born, and the hard work of planting a vineyard had begun. Carl and his four children spent many Saturdays picking rocks, amending soils, preparing the land, and planting the vines. Mandy has a background in plant science and was involved with the planning of the vineyards and the selection of the vines. After the planting, Carl Jr's son Carl continued working in the vineyards under Paul Shumaker learning the unique craft of grape growing. After a few years in the vines, Carl moved into the winery when it opened in the spring of 2013. Carl Jr's daughters Liz and Mandy focus on marketing and events, and his son Mark has taken over the role of working in the vineyard. We invite you to gather some friends and visit our beautiful estate vineyard nestled in the rolling hills of Northampton County. Relax with a glass of your favorite selection and take in the majestic mountain views, the tranquil rows of vines, and the serene rural landscape. Our vineyard is the perfect place to spend the afternoon sipping wine and enjoying the countryside. Tolino Wines: Our unique terrain allows us to grow wonderful grapes to create an impressive selection of wines. We nurture the classic Vinifera and Hybrid varieties of grapes for our winemaker to craft our Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Vidal Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Mama's Rosé, Papa's Red, Chambourcin, and Ice Wine. Our 2010 Cabernet Franc has been very good to us. We are proud to have won the Double Gold medal and the Governor's Cup at the 2014 Pennsylvania Farm Show Competition as the Best of Show Dry Grape Wine in the state. Wine Tastings and Sales: Visit our tasting room for a premier tasting for $5.00 that includes tasting six wines and includes a souvenir glass. We also offer a free tasting of up to 3 wines. Enjoy the view of the vines on our patio, or bring a savory snack to pair with our wines in our picnic area. Wines can be purchased every day, except select major holidays, in our tasting room. Our wines are also available for sale at the Easton Farmer's Market on Wednesdays during the summer and in a few select restaurants.
