Meet Your Hosts
CloseThe Toronto North/Cookstown KOA has grown up with the Stovold family who first opened the doors in 1995. Ever since then the park has been family owned and operated, which makes Matt overjoyed to carry on the tradition with his longtime better half, Alison. Both are eager to continue the growth of a park that they both know and love so much.
After graduating from Business Marketing, Matt decided it was time to take on the challenges of helping his parents run the campground. He then went to KOA University and from there onto Lake Okeechobee KOA for a management trainee course. “Matt couldn’t be more suited for this job. He has a very infectious behaviour that makes people enjoy being around him,” Alison says enthusiastically. He is a hands-on type of worker, loves to be outside mingling with the campers and will always go over and above what is needed to satisfy the guests.
Alison has always been very ambitious and knew at a very young age that she wanted to work in the recreation field. All throughout high school she worked as a part-time employee at the Toronto North Cookstown KOA. She then went to college for 3 years and graduated from Recreation Facility Management.
Alison and Matt were then very fortunate to have the opportunity (which they gladly accepted!) to accept the position of Relief Management for Discovery Holiday Parks in Australia. After spending just under a year working overseas they were presented with what was a dream job in their eyes - the chance to run the Toronto North/Cookstown KOA. Although it was a tough decision to leave Australia they would not change it for the world. “I am very fortunate that Alison wanted to take on this journey with me as she shares the same passion for the campground as I do” said Matt with nothing but confidence in their capabilities. They could not have asked for better role models, knowing that Matt’s family is there to support them the whole way.
When Matt and Alison are not working, you can bet that they are either playing a sport or cheering on one of their favourite teams. And if they are lucky enough to find the time, they will pack up their tent and go on a camping trip of their own with their loving dog, Keona, and a couple of fishing rods.
