Meet Your Hosts

Open April 29 - October 15

Do you have your vacation plans underway for 2012? Call or Click...we are ready for you! Stay tuned for a great lineup of events for 2012 coming soon. :)

Seventy-five acres of natural paradise awaits you less than two hours north of Toronto in the heart of Georgian Bay Country, the world's largest freshwater archipelago—home to 30,000 islands. Settle into a spacious open or wooded site among windswept pines and nature at its finest. Feel the sun tickle your face and warm your soul by day, then gather by the fire and marvel at the "Near North" starry skies by night. ATV and nature trails are accessed directly from your site. Enjoy the heated pool, trampoline, mini golf, gift boutique, wagon rides, bingo, two nearby sandy beaches, playgrounds and more! Fishing and golfing are nearby. Keep in touch via free Wi-Fi. The KOA staff can reserve a cruise aboard the Island Queen or direct you to the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame. Get a dose of culture during the annual Festival of the Sound. Come see how this KOA "rocks!"

Kamp K-9 - "Calling all four legged campers!" Tell your owners that you can stretch your legs in our new off-leash zone. There is plenty of room for you to play and exercise, while your master sits and relaxes and chats with fellow pet owners.

Parry Sound KOA...brings back the hardware! As well as winning the Presidents Award, we also won the "Tourism of the Year Award" presented by the Georgian Bay and Area Chamber of Commerce. Parry Sound KOA is consistently committed to GREAT customer service and thus has become the campground of choice by campers far and wide.

Your Hosts: Don and Michelle welcome you whenever possible.

The Parry Sound KOA "is the best thing that could ever happen to us," Michelle Berry said of her family's purchase of their second generation campground. Michelle and Don and their two sons enjoy winter activities as a family and work together in the campground during the summer. "It really has been a good change."

They sold their family farm south of Toronto in 1999, and since her parents knew they were looking at resorts and other business opportunities, they approached the couple with the idea of buying the KOA. The deal came together in less than two months. Don had worked in the forestry division of the Ministry of Transportation, and Michelle was trained as a registered lab technologist.

The Berry's take pride in welcoming guests to a friendly campground, and they live in a home on the grounds. The surroundings are beautiful and the campground is near many recreational opportunities. They've made a lot of changes at the campground, including a new front office, new computer systems, revamping the store and adding a large recreation hall. Their boys are learning about the business and the values of hard work. They already talk about the day when they can run the campground, she added.

The family loves living north of Toronto, where they get a lot of snow and enjoy winter activities such as hockey, ice fishing and snowmobiling. "It is our family time," she said, adding that she and Don are also very involved as volunteers at school.

Campers at the Parry Sound KOA really enjoy the recreational opportunities associated with the prime campground location. It is right next to the Trans Canada Trail, a multi-use trail that is open to four-wheelers, dirt bikes, walking, horseback riding and biking. The campground serves as a base for a variety of recreation enthusiasts who use the trail, which will soon link two of the largest provincial parks in Ontario. "We're in the middle and it's going to be a wonderful trail," she added.

FIREWOOD: Planning on bringing your own? Please don't move Wood!

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is asking everyone to stop the spread of destructive pests by not moving firewood or other types of wood. A single piece of firewood can destroy millions of trees. It might seem difficult to imagine, but something as simple as bringing your own firewood when you travel to or from your favourite campsite could threaten and destroy thousands, even millions, of trees. Transportation of firewood is a common way for invasive species to spread as they remain hidden under the bark where you can't see them. Campers who bring firewood from home may accidentally spread pests that threaten Ontario campgrounds and the health of our forests.

PLEASE Leave your firewood at home
Throwing a few pieces of firewood into the trunk of the car before a camping trip might seem like a good way to plan ahead, but those logs could destroy a forest. The Asian long-horned beetle and Emerald ash borer are of particular concern. They are both recent arrivals to Canada and have no natural predators here. To prevent the spread of these pests, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued Federal Ministerial Orders that prohibit the movement of specific materials, including firewood from specific areas of Ontario, Quebec and the United States. To find out if your area is regulated please visit the CFIA web site.

DID YOU KNOW?
* Transportation of firewood is a common way for invasive species to spread. * The Emerald Ash Borer, on its own, does not move very far. Hidden in the bark of trees, this tiny “hitchhiker” has traveled with many an unsuspecting camper and as a result has killed millions of ash trees across Canada. *The Asian Long-horned Beetle is a destructive beetle which attacks hardwood trees, including maple, elm, poplars, birch and willow. You could face penalties of up to $50,000 and/or prosecution if you move firewood out of an area regulated for a quarantine pest without prior approval from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
