Alum Creek State Park is about 20 miles from the campground, meaning you can reach it within 30 minutes. The park has several Central Ohio hiking trails, but the Rocks to Roots Trail is a top choice. As the name implies, this path has some tough terrain in certain areas, making it a moderate hike. The length is 4.1 miles with beautiful lake views and plenty of shade.
Visit Hoover Reservoir Park to see the source of much of the water for Columbus. The park features various paths around the reservoir, including the Big Walnut Creek Trail, an out-and-back 1.4-mile walk. The path takes you over the Ohio Hoover Dam, giving you exceptional reservoir views. You can reach this area within about 30 minutes of the campground.
The Mohican State Park is an excellent option for those seeking to venture further from the campground. Drive about 45 minutes to reach a network of hiking trails in Ohio, surrounded by a stunning wooded landscape. Consider taking the Lyon Falls Trail to the Hemlock Gorge Trail for the best experience.
The Lyon Falls Trail is 2 miles long and moderately difficult. It passes through Clear Fork Gorge, which has two waterfalls. The Hemlock Gorge Trail is a moderate 2.4-mile hike with a swinging bridge and a wooden covered bridge.
Visit this nature preserve to see the famous Black Hand sandstone formation along the Licking River. The area is about 45 miles from the campground, and the drive takes about an hour. While there, consider the Marie Hickey Trail, a 2.0-mile loop featuring a small waterfall and rocky outcroppings. The walk is easy, with minimal elevation gain.
Head south of Columbus to visit Clear Creek Metro Park, about an hour and a half drive from the campground. Get the full park experience with the Cemetery Ridge Trail, one of the longest in the park at 2.5 miles long. This looped path winds through forest and meadow, following the creek. It is a moderate to difficult hike with a historic barn you can explore. There are several other trails within the park as well.
