SAULT STE. MARIE - A Michigan landmark will open its doors to the public, when the Soo Locks hosts its annual open house Soo Locks Engineers Day.. The day celebrates the engineers who built the Soo Locks along with the men and women of the past and present who maintain the Locks.The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invite people of all ages to come explore the Soo Locks and avail themselves the rare opportunity to walk across the Lock walls. These walls make it possible for freighters to traverse the 21-foot drop between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes. To gain a real understanding of how this engineering marvel works only a visit will do.

Bus transportation is available to bring walkers from Mill Market in Sault Ontario back to the starting point for a small fee of $3. Our fourth annual Fringe North International Theatre Festival returns! Audience members of all ages will enjoy live theatre performances by local and international artists. The Sault International Festival of Races provides runners with a unique opportunity to traverse the Sault Ste Marie International Bridge and run alongside the St. Marys River all set against the backdrop of beautiful fall foliage and cool E.U.P. temperatures. The Race concludes at downtown Sault Ste Marie, where the Sault Ste. Marie Fall Festival will commence at 10am.
