Come to the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge (only 10 min from our KOA) and see southern bald eagles in their natural habitat. You will begin the tour by watching eagles from the refuge's webcam before taking off on the 25-person tour bus. Guests are encouraged to bring binoculars. Stops will be made at two nesting sites as well as other points of interest where eagles frequently appear. Two spotting scopes will be provided for a close-up look at these incredible birds.After spending the morning at the refuge, take a break and have a leisurely lunch in Vian. Then, make your way to Tenkiller State Park's Driftwood Nature Center to continue your bird-watching adventure with more eagles and lots of loons, including the common loon, the red-throated loon, the pacific loon and the yellow-billed loon. Come out and catch sight of this famed winter migrant of the northeast and beyond. Tours will occur unless there is a travel advisory for the area.

Enjoy a beautiful spring day and learn about fishing and conservation at the Kids' Fishing Clinic. Sponsored by Tenkiller State Park, the event will be held at Vian City Lake (15 min from KOA). Hands-on learning stations will help to sharpen fishing skills and teach conservation. Children ages 4-16 are invited to participate and fish in the stocked lake. Once a child completes all the learning stations, they are free to fish until lunchtime. Prizes will be given to children who complete the clinic, and hot dogs will be served for all to enjoy.

Bring the family and enjoy the annual Sallisaw Lion's Club Rodeo, an event that consistently draws over 5,000 people each year. This IPRA championship rodeo showcases some of the county's elite athletes in rodeo competition. Witness as talented cowboys and cowgirls compete for thousands of dollars in prize money in bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, tie-down roping, steer wrestling and bull riding. As an added bonus, the Sallisaw Lion's Club Rodeo will also feature a handful of non-traditional rodeo events. Secure your spot in the stands and cheer as contestants compete in events such as wild cow milking, mutton bustin' and a calf scramble. Enjoy the annual parade, the street dance featuring lively Western music you can tap your toes to and the spectacle of rodeo royalty making their grand entrance into the arena.
