Tent Reviews

Very nice campground for RVs, felt really weird camping in a tent there. The tent sites are out in the middle, feel pretty open in an unpleasant way. Plus the tent sites are surrounded by the roads where tons of traffic goes through the campground, often at all hours. I would not recommend this campground for tent camping.

We did a short 2 day camping trip at the HIwassee KOA and had an amazing time. They had an awesome playground where all the kids congregated and my kids made great friends. We enjoyed swimming and just relaxing on the campgrounds too. The bathrooms and showers were always available and easily accessible.

We really liked this campground. It is a lovely place in the mountains. The pool and lake were perfect for relaxing. The store and game room was large. It has a lot of seasonal campers. The staff were helpful.

Just stopped for a couple of nights to get my pack in order after a few days on the AT. I didn't get there until well past closing, and I called the after hours number and got a tent site with no problem. Thank you for your hospitality!

The campsite was well maintained as was the bathhouse. Nice quiet and beautiful scenery. Within driving distance of anything needed. The people around me were friendly and maintained their boundaries.

Noisy kids out late making a lot of noise. Dogs barking. Understand the koa was full, but a little respect after 10pm would've been nice.

The Hiawassee KOA is absolutely beautiful and well kept. The KOA had a ton of activities to keep the family entertained and was close to a variety of hiking trails/parks. Our tent site was near the playground which was 10/10 for us since we had small children. The views were breathtaking - a literal mountain in the background of our tent site.

Very clean and quiet park. I was disappointed our tent site was 10ft from a playground with little to no trees or privacy. But I know this is the KOA way as this is not my first KOA visit. As Eagle Scouts looking for a camp, we made an effort to leave no trace and match the level of cleanliness and quiet as those around us. Would return if the primitive sites were more private.

We needed a safe place to sleep for 1 night and the office was just closing when we got there so Marcia assigned a spot and we paid in the morning . Very accommodating and kind. The bathrooms were clean and stock on a busy Labor Day weekend. The view was just what we were looking for.

The only issue I had was the rest rooms were pretty far away from the tent sites. It was have been better if they were closer.

I loved everything about this camp. The bathrooms were clean. This is a beautiful and quiet place. It's pet & kid friendly. There are a lot of things to do. The front desk Staff are very kind. My family and I are definitely coming back!

A beautiful place to beat the heat of a Florida summer or enjoy the fall leaves!

Great for kids and pets! Cleanest bathrooms and showers ever! Bad luck had us rained out most of the weekend but the clubhouse is a great spot to hang with a pool table, air hockey and plenty of games and books. Very friendly staff willing to go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable and stress free.

My wife and I booked this campground, with the intention of doing activities nearby. The activities turned out to be 35 minutes or longer away each day. We visited Helen twice during our stay, which requires driving each way on a windy mountain highway, which can take between 40 to 50 minutes to navigate from the campground. Be prepared for the hairpin turns, as well as the other turns that are about 90 degrees. This KOA is also not the usual KOA my wife and I are accustomed to, such as Twin Mountain in NH. We didn't realize about half the RV and cabin sites were long term rentals, aka seasonal individuals. Our site was nestled between all of those, though few people were here this week near us. It was also odd to have the KOA store closed on Sunday and Wednesday during our stay. The nearest grocery store is about 15-20 minutes away. The cabins are nice inside, and provide the necessary amenities, to reduce eating out at restaurants. We encountered some deer everyday we were here. I've attached photos below to show how close they will come.
