Campground Reviews

We just enjoyed our 2nd stay at this KOA, this time in a Deluxe cabin that perfectly met our needs as a family of 5. We enjoy this location so much. In fact, our homeschool group has been bringing families here for years. It is great to have a safe, beautiful place to relax and play.

KOA made many good changes to our campground, but things we wish were different: In cabins such as #73, beds no longer have storage room underneath and mattress covers are VERY loud when you move while sleeping. Space would be more flexible without attached tables. We would LOVE a Pickleball court. Maybe near pavilion and volleyball??

Our cabin was very comfortable, but missing a few things to make it exceptional. There was only 1/2 roll of toilet paper so we had to ask for more. The tv didn’t work- or we didn’t know how to work it. Maybe they need tv instructions? We used chairs as nightstands since there were no usable nightstands.

Wonderful time with friends. Campground is very big and we love to kinda feel like we are the only ones there. Great staff too

The staff are great. My family has stayed at Hiawassee several times now and finds it relaxing, with amazing surroundings. Each visit, we have found that the attention to detail is slipping. Examples: the mini golf course is in deplorable shape, and no maintenance has been done with the faded and moss-covered turf. The game room closes at 5 pm. Branding altogether and cleanliness can improve.

The staff and campground were great! They were very helpful and informative they knew the area and gave great directions. The only thing we wanted different were for the office to stay open longer so we could ask the staff questions. This is a very minor thing though and we are planning to return to the campground soon.

Beautiful campground, friendly and helpful staff—we love Hiawassee KOA! We’ve stayed at this campground at least once annually for almost 20 years, and we already have reservations to come back next year.

Very clean and quiet park. I was disappointed our tent site was 10ft from a playground with little to no trees or privacy. But I know this is the KOA way as this is not my first KOA visit. As Eagle Scouts looking for a camp, we made an effort to leave no trace and match the level of cleanliness and quiet as those around us. Would return if the primitive sites were more private.

Great!

The lady at the desk was very rude. This is the second time visiting the campground and both times her and some other guy that works at the desk were not very friendly. They are also making up rules that are not listed on the rules provided to us at check in. We only come to this campground when we visit as all the others in the area are usually booked. I have a lot more to say.

Very large, clean and friendly. When you go to a KOA you are at a camp ground above any other.

This was our first stay at a KOA. We had a great time. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Super clean !!! Can’t wait until our next stay.

This park is more like a state park than a KOA! Lots of amenities. Easy access for big rigs to the sites. Be aware that there is a private residential community behind the property, such that vehicles from that community are driving through the park. Water pressure varied, unrelated to high usage times, making it a challenge to shower at times.

Great campground for families. Did not like site 32. Next time we know to call for site wanted. Fire pits in very strange places and have no grate. We cook over open fire. Fire pits two fat from actual camping/sitting areas

Great for kids and pets! Cleanest bathrooms and showers ever! Bad luck had us rained out most of the weekend but the clubhouse is a great spot to hang with a pool table, air hockey and plenty of games and books. Very friendly staff willing to go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable and stress free.

My wife and I booked this campground, with the intention of doing activities nearby. The activities turned out to be 35 minutes or longer away each day. We visited Helen twice during our stay, which requires driving each way on a windy mountain highway, which can take between 40 to 50 minutes to navigate from the campground. Be prepared for the hairpin turns, as well as the other turns that are about 90 degrees. This KOA is also not the usual KOA my wife and I are accustomed to, such as Twin Mountain in NH. We didn't realize about half the RV and cabin sites were long term rentals, aka seasonal individuals. Our site was nestled between all of those, though few people were here this week near us. It was also odd to have the KOA store closed on Sunday and Wednesday during our stay. The nearest grocery store is about 15-20 minutes away. The cabins are nice inside, and provide the necessary amenities, to reduce eating out at restaurants. We encountered some deer everyday we were here. I've attached photos below to show how close they will come.
