10 ice cream shops you need to visit

Calling all Sweet Toodies! Yes, we just deemed sweet tooth foodies as "sweet toodies". There is a plethora of ice cream shops you need to try when visiting our campground.  Here's the best spots to go (in no particular order):

If we missed one, let us know!

SMILEY'S  ICE CREAM (Mt. Crawford) Boasts rotating menu of everyday flavors, monthly flavors, and weekly flavors. Coconut Almond Choc Chunk, Java Chip, and Black Raspberry are a few of the everyday favorites. Seasonal flavors come and go but always keep you on your toes!  A couple specialties are Caramel Apple Cheesecake, Butterbeer, and Cranberry White Chocolate. Smiley's is dishing out  homemade ice cream straight from the cows raised on site. It doesn't get any fresher, so get moo-ving and head to Smiley's. Be sure to thank the cows on your way out!

TOT'S ICE CREAM (Penn Laird) Homemade ice cream made daily with crazy yummy flavors, like PB Pile Up, which base starts with three different kinds of peanut butter, nutter butter cookies and peanut butter swirl. We have to sprinkle in their Cookie Monster ice cream, which features not one, not two, but three different types of cookies. Try the Nacho Normal Ice Cream Nachos, if you're with a group! It's a large sundae on a waffle cone bed, drizzled in chocolate syrup. Ah, yum!

KLINE'S DAIRY BAR (Downtown Harrisonburg or South Main Harrisonburg) Creamy and smooth are words to describe Kline's custard. The dairy bar's unique 'flavor cards' are established at the start of each year.  This allows ample time to schedule sundae dates to treat yo' self.  Unique flavors include Lemon Gingersnap, Banana Puddin', Mocha Coffee Bean, and Cherry Nut.

MEGAMILKSHAKES by Sweet Suprise (Valley Mall, Harrisonburg) Mastering the art of dessert design, each vibrant milkshake is created with style and unique flair. You will be so impressed that you won't even know where to dig in. With toppings such as full size candy bars, cheesecake slices, cotton candy, cereal, and ice cream cones - these are no ordinary milkshakes. Dining in the ice cream shop is the complete experience to delight all of your senses.

SWEET CREATIONS (Located in Valley Pike Farm Market, Weyers Cave) Bask in the smell of sweet homemade waffle cones loaded with fresh scoops from Homestead Creamery.  Savory flavors include Chocolate Pecan and Espresso Choc Chip.  Fruity varieties include Orange Pineapple and Blueberry Pomegranate. Sweet Creations also serves cakes, pies, and confections, all made in the commonwealth.

BELLA GELATO (Harrisonburg) Made in small batches using local milk and high quality ingredients.  A featured flavor is Chocolate Hazelnut, made with creamy dark chocolate and rich hazelnut paste.  Mmm Mmm Mmm!

YOUR PIE (Penn Laird) Pizzeria dishing out yummy gelato.  Flavors like Vegan Almond Berry Crisp consist of sweet strawberries blended with creamy oat milk and crunchy roasted almonds. If you come with an appetite, you can build your own pizza before (or after) gelato.  Dessert before dinner anyone?

PACK'S FROZEN CUSTARD (New Market) Swirling rich creamy custard with a classic menu of cones, sundaes, shakes, and floats. Pack attacks feature custard with flavors mixed in.  We're big fans of the S'more sundae!

J J's SOFT SERVE (Timberville) Serving up soft serve, Hershey's ice cream, and  yogurt. Flurries, sundaes, banana splits and milk shakes available. This is a go-to spot that is close to the KOA.

Last but not least, OUR KOA KAMPSTORE (on site!) We feature Dippin Dots, Hershey's Ice Cream and a rotating selection of ice cream pints! We have snacks available and fresh pizza from our very own Hungry Bear Pizza!

We hope you enjoyed this list.

Let us know your favorite spots or if we missed anything!
