Tent Reviews

Very nice campground - clean, friendly staff. Only issue was that our tent site was right by an overpass, so it was noisy.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you for being our guest. We hope you enjoyed being along the beautiful Yakima River. We have a whole new sections we just revamped on the other side of the overpass. Please visit us again and we will put you in one of our new sites. Thanks again for being our guest. Bethel G, manager

This KOA is clean. A few things that were concerning were that the pool said open till 10pm and was locked. And the resident mental or method out person that lives across the way, that visits your koa in the middle of the night, and the local cops do nothing to get him off the street, this will hurt your business as I didnt feel safe.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Our pool is open 10-10 in season and is gated 24 hours. The gate latch opens from the top post which can make it tricky if you never used that type of gate latch before. There are no private residences near the park. If a homeless person wanders into the park, we let the police handle it.

Very good help and all things camping were GREAT

Wasn’t impressed for the money.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

We are a KOA Journey yet offer amenities and activities comparable to a KOA Holiday. Our location is highly desirable being easily accessible from I-90 and nestled at the base of the Cascade mountains along the Yakima River. Close to CWU, the Gorge Amphitheatre, Roslyn and more.

Extremely disappointed. Stuck us in a totally unimproved campsite full of rocks and weeds, and a bunch of litter. Ridiculous for the amount of money charged. Will never stay there again.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Our basic tent sites are situated on the banks of the Yakima River. The area is protected by the State and doesn't allow "improvements" This allows tenters to enjoy the splendor of nature. We also have deluxe tent sites available away from the river, on a grass pad, with water and electric hook ups.

Right next to the freeway, couldn't sleep because of the noise. I wanted to be in a quite part of the campground but got assigned a site that was a dirt patch with a porta-potty. The real bathrooms were a 5 minute walk. I would have asked for a different space but the office closes at 6, so couldn't find anyone to get reassigned. But still had to pay the full $77. Pretty pricey dirt. Not happy.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

As a KOA Journey, we are conveniently located off I-90 and our tent sites are furthest away from I-90 along the Yakima River. Tent sites along the river are on land that is protected by the State so they remain natural, basic sites. Check-in starts at noon and there is an after hours phone if needed

I’ve been coming here for ten consecutive years and it’s gotten way to expensive for what you get. For tent camping it’s more expensive than the remodeled Leavenworth KOA. Having to book for four nights for Labor Day is crazy too, especially for the road noise.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Being a KOA Journey, we are conveniently located off I-90 yet we offer accommodations and amenities more like a KOA Holiday making our guests enjoy staying for long weekends especially during the Ellensburg Rodeo over Labor Day weekend. We are the best of both worlds.

Throughout our stay, we experienced a great deal of satisfaction, until an unfortunate incident occurred. Our truck was accidentally hit by a cleaner on a golf cart. Additionally, we had inquired the day before about swimming after 11 AM and were assured that it would be permissible as long as our site was vacated by that time. However, we were subsequently charged a late checkout fee without an

The bathrooms here need attention. Cleaning once a day is not enough unfortunately and the showers (both) have a drainage problem. As with most KOA's, the camping is quite cramped, however our family tent site was in a great location that we didn't feel cramped this time at all. Staff is great and amenities are what you'd expect at a KOA. We always feel safe here. We will definitely be back.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Our bathrooms are cleaned and spot checked several times a day. There is no drainage problem with the showers, but they will drain slowly when the parks drainage system is being used to its max. Our family tent sites are very spacious and close to all amenities.

I’ve stayed at many KOAs and this is the first time the very capable staff didn’t have the authority to fix problems. They had to wait for the owner to be on property and they had to be showed by national office what was obviously wrong. Beautiful spot on the river.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

As at most KOAs/campgrounds, on-site management and staff although very capable do require owner approval for certain fixes. Also, as a KOA, we are subject to annual inspections, which we passed again this year.

This was our second stay and I was not as pleased as our last stay. I was charged for an additional adult that did not attend (I told the gentleman when I checked in but he did not remove or refund me). The womens bathroom (by the office) was dirty more than it was clean and out of toilet paper in ALL stalls. The SaniCans were disgusting. It was a disappointing stay.
Jul 31, 2023
Overall great stay. Portable bathrooms could be cleaner though
Jul 31, 2023
It was OK. The bathrooms were clean, which was great, but the noise from the freeway was constant and this has to have been the most expensive KOA I have been to. For what?

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Our location offers beautiful, shaded sites nestled at the base of the Cascade Mtns and on the banks of the Yakima River, yet is easily accessible from I90 yet being far enough so you can't even see I90 from the park.
Jul 30, 2023
The bathrooms were clean, the campsites were a good size, however the noise from the roadway was awful. Trucks would pump their brakes at all hours of the night making it impossible to sleep. The pool was freezing cold and you can’t swim in the river.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

As a Journey campground, we are easily accessible to I90, being located on an off-ramp yet not directly off I90. The other side of the campground is directly on the Yakima River which runs very swiftly here, making it dangerous to wade in but we have a pool for swimming instead, which is even warmer
Jul 26, 2023
Great campground, poor location. Loud, campsite under overpass.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

We have a great location nestled at the base of the Cascade Mountains along the beautiful Yakima River with easy access to I90. Our tent sites are on the bank of the river under mature shade trees with no sites being under the overpass for the local road.
Jul 17, 2023
The camping spots are very close which is not a big deal for family campers and spots broken up by tents. However, we had a cookout/dinner only group next to our spot blasting music and smoking. We made the best of it but were uncomfortable at times and disappointed at the atmosphere especially for the $70/night fee.
Jul 16, 2023
We had a great time. Service was friendly and professional. Thank you for making our first KOA experience wonderful!
Jul 11, 2023
Great, pet friendly campground! The facilities were clean and well maintained. They did a movie night that included popcorn, which was really cool! The playground was a big hit with the kids. Our only complaint was the pool was almost too cold. Get a bubble, solar blanket to warm it up!

Thank you for the stay.

A little bit noisy due to the highway close by.. However we did get used to that and the campground itself was very clean and well organized.
Jul 10, 2023
The tent grounds are really bad. The picnic tables were very dirty. The camp ground itself is next to a highway and a bridge. It’s hard to even sleep at night with all the noise. We booked for two days but came back in one night.
Jul 09, 2023
Facilities and staff were great. The riverside site was quite nice, but I prefer something a bit more secluded. That said it was great for our first time camping buddies. Wife loved the showers and clean restrooms. Felt secure leaving my belongings as I routinely saw staff patrolling the grounds.
Jul 05, 2023
Pool area was nice, showers & bathrooms very clean. Toys for kids was nice, dog park was ok. Good place for families. Store has a lot to choose from. However, wasn't real impressed with tent camping area. Spaces were to close together and there needs to be more than 2 Porta potties. Also homeless people living at the river right around the corner from our tent site.
Jul 01, 2023
The good: some of the workers were helpful in getting us checked in. The bad: Loud until late at night. Traffic noise was bad, but worse was the blaring radio and bright lights from the pool area left on all night. There was also one party just down the road from us that was loud until past midnight. There was no hot water in the showers! $77 a night for a tent spot is way too expensive.

All the employees were very pleasant and helpful. I was disappointed in the bits of litter that people would leave at the sites. I don't usually go on vacation with the idea of cleaning up other peoples trash. This isn't a reflection on the upkeep of KOA, the litter was too small to notice at first (bottle caps, plastic wrappers, paint tubes?). If you plan to camp, please clean up after yourself.

Everyone friendly. Nice space fit 3 tents. Grandson had a fabulous time; swimming, playground, basketball, volleyball , horseshoes and popcorn & 2 movie night on the lawn. Clean site and restroom. Loved it.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you for your comments. We are glad you and your grandson enjoyed making use of our amenities.

Camped next to an overpass. Enough said
Jun 13, 2023
The only thing I didn’t like was not being allowed to burn your own firewood from outside the campground. I cut firewood as a side job and brought my own unknowingly. But stuck with the parks rules and didn’t use it. I will return this upcoming weekend with more family and friends. I would only suggest possibly inspecting the wood people bring and see if it meets certain criteria to be used?
Jun 12, 2023
You all are always so nice and friendly and the camp sites are always clean and nice and my kiddos love swimming and running around! Thanks, we will always keep coming back to the KOA.
Jun 05, 2023
The location left a lot to be desired - right off the highway - loud - not pleasant to look at. Our trip was wonderful though & the workers were great!

Got billed but never stayed there or made a reservation.

On the river tent experience, beautiful weather however grass was very high needed mowing and looked dated, smaller than we realized

Getting checked in was great. Bathrooms are nice and heated. I really didn't use too many amenities, just popped my tent up for the evening. Everything stayed safe and staff checked in on me in the morning which was very nice.

The camp host was extremely accomodating and the facility and grounds were very clean. We loved having our camp site right on the Yakima River!

Overpriced, The most we ever paid to stay at a KOA tent site. Very noisy as the highway overpass went right by the campground. Nice grassed site. Very clean washrooms. Helpful staff.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you for the feedback. Have a good day!

The staff was terrific. Our truck broke down and we limped into this KOA. They helped us find a spot, gave us some referrals for mobile mechanics, lent us a battery charger, and accommodated a late check out. Property is well kept, restrooms clean and bright. The property sits right next to I-90. Road noise is constant - just have to imagine it's the ocean crashing onto the shore!

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you! We love the positive attitude and kind words. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the campground and we hope to see you visiting us again!

It is very noisy from traffic, especially trucks because the campground is right below Thorp Hwy S. When trucks crossed the bridge, it was so loud that it woke us up every time even with earplugs in our ears.

Excellent stay, as always! Love the Ellensburg KOA!

The most expensive campsite I have ever paid for in my life. To top that off it was only a tent site. We were Stuck in A gravel pit beside 2 major highways. There was no wi fi service to our site and had to walk back to the office to get it. Can not compare to the quality of a a state park which is a small fraction of the cost. Will not be back toget gouged again.

Amazing campground. Have some activity planned on most days. Extremely well maintained.

I only gave 4 stars as the WI-FI did not work at all.

A good place to stop in. The laundry did not have a coin machine and it was a bit expensive for a campsite. $71. But that's kind of what you get with a KOA, and this specific campground probably doesn't have much control over that. They had a very clear area to register for the night if you came in after hours, which we did.
