Campground Reviews

Large campground with good amenities. Staff seem to be there to do the bare minimum only. Little things are being neglected like only 1 sink in the men’s bathroom worked, big hole in ceiling in women’s bathroom, spiderwebs in cabin, there was a dirty spot in shower stall the entire stay, TP and paper towel dispensers empty for 24+ hours, etc. Would stay again but it needs some TLC.

Site was level, but no greenery at all. Not very pretty, but wide open. Restaurant was pretty good!

Very windy but was everywhere. Nice office staff who helped get two reservations into same space. Excellent pork rib dinner.

Stayed in the El Pony, very clean and nice! Would definitely stay here again!

Expensive most I have paid in nm and 18 miles out of town. Very run down restrooms -ones away from registration- setup with tables etc were nice and plenty of room. Trash picked up daily. 2 nice dog parks.

The park was clean and the personnel were very friendly. Would recommend to anyone staying in the Carlsbad area to stay here.

Unfortunately, any good I may have to say about my stay is overshadowed by the behavior of one employee. If you really care to hear what happened please contact me. You have my information.

The wi-fi was weak and our cable outlet was in need of repair. The expensive barbeque brisket that I ordered from the campground restaurant was very dry.

Very nice campground and folks. I had a serious maintenance issue and they came and fixed it in less than five minutes. The layout is nice with plenty of spacing and utilities. They try to keep the facilities looking nice, clean, and the roadways are racked every day. The place is a bit dated and is pretty far from town, but that is what I was looking for providing amazing star views.

We overnighted here while traveling through NM. It's a very nice and extremely clean campground. The staff was very helpful, nice and professional. I highly recommend this park.

We stayed 5 nights great location base to see everything in the area.

The park was neat and clean with spacious sites. The staff were helpful and friendly! The only real negative was the quality of the water. It as very hard and left residue on everything it touched.

We arrived an hour early. Check in was at 2:00 pm and they charged $10 early check in fee. Never have we been charged for early check in. Don’t promote your food service and change the policy day of. Convenient to Carlsbad Caverns. You can do better.

Pull through was nice and level. Showed up after dark. Next morning found several places with dog poop in my grassy area. Laundry room is nice but several machines smelled and they appear not clean. Dog area nice but fence clasp needs to be fixed as a dog could press against fence and get out. Biggest disappointment was how far this was from the Caverns. Figured the by the name it would be closer

We were there in some recent wind storms that held up our travels for a few days. We were grateful for a well maintained safe place to stay.

We stopped here to visit the caverns. This is a good park.

Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Only one sink in men’s bathroom partial worked.

Do not recommend the Carlsbad KOA.

Water was not stocked in store and desk host didn’t offer to get any out.

Nice, clean facilities, friendly helpful staff and good internet.

Friendly staff, spacious level sites.

We enjoyed the location being out of Carlsbad. We always feel safe and secure at a KOA. Thanks for another great stay!

The desk chair in Lobo has stripped screws that allow the back of the chair to fall apart when moved, the map provided with check-in led us to believe there was only one bathroom located in the park, and no cabins with restrooms were available when I reserved but they were all unoccupied when I arrived. With a pregnant passenger, the bathroom issues were major!

Very clean and quiet park.

We enjoyed our stay, and the people who worked there were wonderful! The gravel roads were hard on our dogs' feet, and the distance from Carlsbad was something of a turn-off, ALTHOUGH it put us on our way when we left in a good way! KOA is a class outfit!

some bathrooms didn’t work, Some where just not level. Park stank like open sewer. Wifi is very bad. Park needs new ownership and investment money. Do not stay at this camp site. Sleep at a rest stop or walmart first. I’ve never left a bad review at a KOA. Maybe just close this one and bulid another.

Would have rated it 5 except for the dirt bike and go cart running through the campground kicking up dust and disrupting noise. It was not campers but staff.

Nice wide sites, level ground and everything else you look for at a KOA. Location is great with respect to area attractions.

Only there one night, but great spot. Quiet, large spaces, very clean, nice dog park.

We found the Carlsbad KOA to be very accommodating, we loved the spacious drive through sites, the large rec room, and the very friendly staff. We had exceptionally cold weather for several days, the staff did their best to prepare the campers. They had a nicely maintained dog park and we enjoyed the close proximity to 4 National Parks. Thanks to the staff- Mel, Kat, Will, Josh, Amanda

Too isolated. It is 45 minutes from the caverns & 25 from town. The sites are large which is great & the laundry was very nice. There is SO much that could be done with this park since it is a "Holiday" rating. Why isn't there a fenced dog area, K9 camp? A jumping pillow or better playground structures would be nice. We were there in winter so the pool was cold but it was VERY small.
Feb 23, 2025
Nice park. Large enough sites for big rig. Make sure to bring whatever to park, is out a ways from towns. The BBQ food was really good at moderate price. Would recommend if driving to attractions isn't an issue for you.

This KOA has the best laundry facilities of and KOA I have ever used. Friendly staff and well maintained camp sites.

No hot water in main bath so 3 showers in small old building for whole campground. Girl checking us in had no personality talked like a robot. Took our small dog to pet walk and some Great Dane tried to get at her by jumping over fence, had to leave. Was scheduled to stay 3 nights, wanted to cancell the last night and she wouldn’t reimburse so we forfeited our night and left.

Unfortunately the first cabin we were assigned to had no hot water and the coffee maker didn’t work. The office moved us to another cabin where the hot water only lasted 5 minutes and the shower head was broken (angled at the wall so only part of your head could be in the water). For the amount per night, we at least expected a hot shower, especially with the cold front that came in.

Clean and quiet. They said they had internet but neither wife nor I could connect.

Very accessible and clean! Able to book last minute for our cross country stay!

When we pulled in there was a sign stating "Voted #1 KOA in New Mexico", so we were expecting to be WOW'd...well...not so much. Don't get me wrong, the staff was great, navigating the park was easy (43' 5th wheel), but it just felt like we were plopped down in the middle of a dust bowl. I understand...we really were in the middle of a dust bowl (NM), but we didn't see the WOW of a #1 rated park. It just felt...tired?? We felt safe, and maybe it was our ignorance as east coasters where everything is green, but just not our idea of an enjoyable location...no fault of the park...please understand that.

We are giving it 5 stars, because as RVers everything we needed was there. Th RVs are well spaced from each other, clean, full hook up, trash service, propane to buy and we could not hear the traffic from the highway inside our 5th wheel. The distance was a bite long but no different than other places we have stayed at.
