Hamburger Stew


Makes 45

  • 1 1/2  pound(s)  ground beef or turkey
  • 1-2  c  carrots
  • 1  medium onion
  • 4-5  medium potatoes
  • 1  bag frozen peas
  • 1  package onion soup mix
  • water
  • salt and pepper
  • oregano or basil


Brown the meat in a large pot or dutch oven. Chop up the carrots, onion and potatoes and add them, then add the onion soup mix with enough water to cover. Cover the pot and simmer until the potatoes are tender (about 20-30 minutes). Add the peas to the pot. Season to taste with salt, pepper and oregano or basil. Simmer until the peas are hot. Serve with a loaf of warm french or sourdough bread. To make cooking time easier at camp, you can cook the meat and freeze it at home.
