Wilmington Greek Festival 2020 DRIVE THRU

The Greek community of Wilmington, NC shares its culture, faith and heritage. The three day festival incudes authentic Greek food and cooking demonstrations, music and dancing, plus a market place. Held at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, this annual event is enjoyed by thousands!

Cape Fear Kite Festival CANCELLED
Come watch as serious kite flyers share their sky art at the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. This is the final kite event of the season with more than just your average kites filling the sky. See incredible shapes, sizes, styles and of course colors float, soar and ride the air. Please check the Video footage of last year's event on their Website. Food trucks and other vendors will be on-site during the festival.
Taste of Wrightsville Beach
The Cape Fear area has its own unique style when it comes to food and fun. Celebrating its 8th year in 2020, this festival that is perpetually growing in popularity features dozens of samples, tastings, contests and more. This allows newcomers to dive into the local Wrightsville Beach food scene with gusto!

Wrightsville Beach Turkey Trot
Burn off those pre-Thanksgiving calories with the annual Turkey Trot! This race includes a 5K timed run or a one-mile walk around the beautiful Wrightsville Beach Loop. There will be prizes, food and fun for everyone this Thanksgiving Day! Children 5 and under are FREE, but in order to be timed they must be registered and pay as an adult, please see website for further information.
A New Hanover County tradition since 2005, guests from around the world have visited Airlie Gardens from Thanksgiving to Christmas to take in the sparkling sights and festive sounds of the season. Guests will experience a 0.5m stroll through the Gardens, on a self-guided walking tour while feasting their eyes on a spectacular array of lights and holiday displays. Masks will be required, Santa will not be on site this year, there will not be food and beverages for sale and wheelchairs will not be available. Guests may bring their own food and may also bring their own wheelchairs. Pathways are wheelchair accessible.

Downtown Holiday Tree Lighting 2020 POSTPONED
The Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting features music and caroling, a visit with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and the lighting of the Holiday Tree. Enjoy music, a holiday marketplace, and warm refreshments. Get into the spirit and stroll among the shops and restaurants to kick off the holiday season coastal-style!
Annual NC Holiday Flotilla at Wrightsville Beach REVISED
The Flotilla will be happening with a little twist. This year residents are encouraged to decorate their docks. Flood lights and spotlights not allowed as it will impair navigation. The docks will be judged from the water Friday and Saturday nights of Thanksgiving weekend. Flotilla captains and other boat owners to decorate and come see the beautiful docks and homes from the water.. You will have the opportunity to place your votes for the People's Choice Award.

Wrightsville Beach Jingle Bell Run 5K
The Wrightsville Beach Museum of History invites you to participate in the 5K Jingle Bell Run. This celebratory holiday event, encourages race participants and spectators to dress in holiday apparel (i.e. Santa costumes, antlers, snowmen, etc.). Runners who register in time always receive some creative Holiday Swag. Historic cottages and beautiful winter marshes are part of the scenery as you meet the challenge of this special 5K alongside beautiful Wrightsville Beach. Please visit website for details.
Island of Lights New Year's Eve Countdown
The New Year's Celebration is always held on New Year's Eve and begins at 9 PM. The location rotates between Carolina & Kure Beaches. Don't miss the giant beach ball being dropped at midnight followed by a spectacular fireworks demonstration.
This free family-friendly event will feature a DJ and dancing with refreshments and party favors available for purchase.

NHRMC Marathon Madness
Experience marathon madness at the beach with the Annual Wrightsville Beach Marathon, a winner of the Southeast Tourism Top 20 events! This exciting event draws a variety of runners from all over the country to compete and has the added bonus of being a Boston Marathon qualifying event and an USATF certified qualifier. The course for the full marathon starts at the beach and runs through Landfall and finishes at the UNCW Campus. Half Marathon and Relay events available as well. USS NC Battleship Memorial Day Observance
On Memorial Day, people of all generations from across the state will gather together on the deck of the USS North Carolina to pay their respects. This moving and meaningful ceremony includes military and patriotic musical arrangements featuring a military guest speaker, an all-service Color Guard, a 21-gun salute, and a memorial wreath cast into the water. Executive Director Captain Terry A. Bragg and members of the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA Commission invite the public to take part in this powerful Memorial Day observance ceremony.
PPD Ironman 70.3 North Carolina
The PPD IRONMAN 70.3 North Carolina triathlon will take place on much of the same course as its bigger sibling and will feature a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run. This "point-to-point-to-point-to-point" event begins in Wrightsville Beach and takes athletes along the same fast channel swim. The bike course runs through the coastal countryside outside Wilmington, and the run traverses Greenfield Lake before athletes finish in historic downtown Wilmington across from the USS North Carolina Battleship.
