The Wilmington Hammerheads FC is pleased to host the 2017 Beach Soccer Classic. The tournament is open to all U10-U18 Boys and Girls (Boys up to U15) Club teams that regularly participate in USYS Challenge, Classic and Premier league play only.
The Beach Soccer Classic will be held the weekend of November 18th - 19th, 2016.
Set amidst the inspiring and educational backdrop of the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, this year's Cape Fear Festival of Trees is sure to be one of the most unique festivities on the Cape Fear coast! Hosted at the Aquarium, all visitors who purchase a general admission ticket to the Aquarium between November 20 and December 31 will also experience the Cape Fear Festival of Trees. Burn off those pre-Thanksgiving calories with the 13th annual Turkey Trot! This race includes a 5K timed run or a one-mile walk around the beautiful Wrightsville Beach Loop. There will be prizes, food and fun for everyone this Thanksgiving Day! A New Hanover County tradition since 2005, guests from around the world have visited Airlie Gardens from Thanksgiving to Christmas to take in the sparkling sights and festive sounds of the season. Guests will experience a 0.5m stroll through the Gardens, on a self-guided walking tour while feasting their eyes on a spectacular array of lights and holiday displays. Also in attendance, Santa Claus himself, and a few local food and beverage vendors with coffee, hot chocolate, popcorn, cookies and more!

So we (the folks who brought you the Gallop for the Gravy for the past 10 years) have moved the race to 11 am on Black Friday, and to a new location with a route along the Cape Fear River. Isn't that civilized? Avoid the shopping crowds, sleep in, and then dash in to join us for the Annual Black Friday Dash!Starting at Waterline Brewery and then winding along the Cape Fear River, through downtown Wilmington, turning at the new Pier 33 and then ending back at Waterline Brewery, this professionally managed and timed 5K is a new local tradition. Come join us!

Join the Burgwin-Wright House, Bellamy Mansion Museum and St. James Episcopal Church as they host their annual festive holiday evening filled with music, dancing, costumes, refreshments and more! Go back in time for an old-fashioned Christmas on this magical night full of fun for the whole family complete with period decorations, costumed interpreters and even a miniature animal petting zoo. Both historic houses are decorated beautifully for the holidays, so enjoy a trolley ride or a candlelit stroll through Downtown Wilmington as you go from one to the other.
Celebrate the holidays coastal-style at the North Carolina Holiday Flotilla. Voted a Southeast Tourism Society (STS) Top 20 Event, this celebration kicks off Friday night with the Anchor's Away Launch Party. The event is open to the public and includes dinner, a cash bar, live music and a silent auction. The fun continues Saturday with the Festival in the Park featuring over 100 arts and craft vendors, an antique car show, a large play area for children with several inflatables, the always popular Arab Choo Choo, festival food and more. The lighted boat parade begins at 6:00 pm and is followed by a spectacular fireworks show. Don't forget to vote via text for both the "People's Choice" and "Crowd Favorite" awards once the parade starts.

The New Year's Celebration is always held on New Year's Eve and begins at 9 PM. The location rotates between Carolina & Kure Beaches. Don't miss the giant beach ball being dropped at midnight followed by a spectacular fireworks demonstration.
This free family-friendly event will feature a DJ and dancing with refreshments and party favors available for purchase.

The 16th Annual Dolphin Dip Extravaganza in Surf City, NC, proceeds benefit Share the Table. The event features thousands of folks braving the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean, plus a costume contest, and more.
Show up at 11am, swim at noon.
Fort Fisher State Historic Site and Battlefield in Kure Beach and the Friends of Fort Fisher host the 153rd Anniversary of the 2nd Battle of Fort Fisher. The weekend features hundreds of reenactors representing Union and Confederate soldiers, sailors, and Marines realistically depicting everything from camp life to battle strategies.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day has special resonance to Wilmingtonians because (among other reasons) Dr. King was scheduled to travel to Wilmington for a speaking engagement on the day he was assassinated. Wilmington honors his memory with a week of events dedicated to him and his work ending with Monday's commemorative parade. Enjoy the Annual Polar Plunge along with the 5K Run-N-Plunge at Kure Beach! With the annual 5K Run-N-Plunge, shivering plungers brave cold conditions and dive into the chilly Atlantic Ocean after completing a 5K winding through the beach. Contestants are encouraged to dress up and find their inner superhero! There will be a pre-race auction, a costume contest, food and of course the plunge at the end of the race. Contestants can opt for the 5K Run-N-Plunge, a 1-mile fun walk or just the plunge but no matter what you choose to participate in, the day is sure to leave you smiling!
Art for All, a unique and creative art show! Happening on Saturday, February 17, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday, February 18, from Noon- 5 p.m. Admission to the show is $5 at the door—good for both days and includes a raffle ticket (kids 12 and under are free). The US Open Fat Bike Beach Championships is a race like none other in the USA. Being held on an all sand course along the pristine shores of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina this course will prove both challenging for competitors and fun to watch for families and fans. With the recent and fast rising popularity of Fat Bikes, bikes with tires wider than 4?, riding a bicycle in the thick sand has become easier than ever. Combine Fat Bikes with an ever changing beach and the competitive spirits of a bunch of bicycle riders and we couldn't help but design a race.
With a peak elevation of only 32ft, the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Wrightsville Beach Marathon Madness is fast, flat and notorious for personal bests. Combined with the huge bonus of the race being a Boston Marathon qualifying eventand an USATF certified qualifier, it's no surprise why this marathon attracts a healthy variety of runners—from first timers to veterans—and sells out fast.The 2017 Full Marathon will really give you a glimpse of what Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington offer. The new course starts at the beach and runs through Landfall and finishes at the UNCW Campus. Your families and friends will have the opportunity to see you in action five to eight times as you run, with the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway as your backdrop. The NCAA basketball tourney kicks off in March off as well, so we'll have college-themed cheer stations with DJs, bands and spectator hot spots.

The North Carolina Azalea Festival “Loop The Lake” Extended 5K/10K/1 Mile Fun Walk is an annual event hosted by the Cape Fear Volunteer Center. Kids, dogs, and costumes are welcome!All proceeds from this event benefit the Cape Fear Volunteer Center Big Buddy Program. Big Buddy is a one-on-one mentoring program that matches “at-risk” youth ages 6-16 in New Hanover County and Brunswick County with positive adult role models. Youth are identified as “at-risk” due to the following circumstances: involvement with the juvenile justice system, excessive in-school and/or out-of-school suspensions, poor academic performance, and lack of positive role models. The Cape Fear Volunteer Center is a 501c3 and works to recruit and train volunteers, match volunteers with youth, offer support and guidance through case management, and provide monthly group activities.
April 18-22, 2018The 2018 West Marine Carolina Cup presented by SurfTech kicks off the race season with 5 courses: a kids race, the Harbor Island Recreational “fun” race, Money Island open race, 6 man outrigger race on Sunday and the renowned Graveyard Elite Race. This is our seventh year. In 2012, the Carolina Cup was the largest race on the East Coast with over 400 paddlers competing in the first day of races. In 2013, we had over 600. In 2014, there were over 700. The 2015 event was one of the most competitive events on record and also deemed the largest SUP event in the world. In 2016, the West Marine Carolina Cup grew even more attracting thousands of paddlers to Wrightsville Beach to come together on the East Coast.Expect clinics by the top paddle instructors and certifiers in the world.Bring the whole family for this amazing 5-day weekend.
