Join the celebration of the three B's-- Beach, BACON and Beer! The PPD IRONMAN 70.3 North Carolina triathlon will take place on much of the same course as its bigger sibling and will feature a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run. This "point-to-point-to-point-to-point" event begins in Wrightsville Beach and takes athletes along the same fast channel swim. The bike course runs through the coastal countryside outside Wilmington, and the run traverses Greenfield Lake before athletes finish in historic downtown Wilmington across from the USS North Carolina Battleship.
For a spooky and safe place to take the kids on Halloween, visit Trick-or-Treat Under the Sea at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher. This family-friendly event features thrills and gills and includes indoor trick-or-treating, face painting, storytelling and haunted gardens. The North Carolina Surf to Sound Challenge rebounds in Wrightsville Beach after having to cancel last year due to Hurricane Florence. This challenge is sanctioned by the World Paddle Association and organized by the Wrightsville Beach Paddle Club. It attracts amateurs and professionals from around North America. All races begin and end at the host hotel Blockade Runner Beach Resort either ocean side or sound side.

Come watch as serious kite flyers share their sky art at the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. This is the final kite event of the season with more than just your average kites filling the sky. A New Hanover County tradition since 2005, guests from around the world have visited Airlie Gardens from Thanksgiving to Christmas to take in the sparkling sights and festive sounds of the season. Guests will experience a 0.5m stroll through the Gardens, on a self-guided walking tour while feasting their eyes on a spectacular array of lights and holiday displays. Join in as the Fort Fisher State Historic Site is brought to life with their 155th Anniversary of the Battle of Fort Fisher event. This event will focus on the stories of the men during the afternoon of January 15, 1865. Infantry re-enactors will be on hand to talk with visitors about camp life and garrison duty as well as conduct the manual of arms, drills and firing demonstrations including the site's rifled and banded 32 pound cannon and the bronze 12 pound cannon. On hand will be Harry Taylor, a local photographer who will be using his 1860's wet-plate photography studio to take photographs for visitors. Please see website for more details.

Experience marathon madness at the beach with the Annual Wrightsville Beach Marathon, a winner of the Southeast Tourism Top 20 events! This exciting event draws a variety of runners from all over the country to compete and has the added bonus of being a Boston Marathon qualifying event and an USATF certified qualifier. Get ready for the annual fat tire bike race on beautiful Wrightsville Beach! The US Open Fat Tire Cross Beach Championship will consist of a large lap which will take racers from the thick sand to the hard packed sand along the water's edge. There are three Categories: The Fat (12+ miles), The Really Fat (18+ miles), and the Super Fat (24+ miles). While all bikes are allowed to race, bikes with tires over 4” wide are recommended. The 2020 Carolina Cup is the official start of SUP race season with six races charted through the waters surrounding beautiful Wrightsville Beach!
