Burn off those pre-Thanksgiving calories with the annual Turkey Trot! This race includes a 5K timed run or a one-mile walk around the beautiful Wrightsville Beach Loop. There will be prizes, food and fun for everyone this Thanksgiving Day! A New Hanover County tradition since 2005, guests from around the world have visited Airlie Gardens from Thanksgiving to Christmas to take in the sparkling sights and festive sounds of the season. Guests will experience a 0.5m stroll through the Gardens, on a self-guided walking tour while feasting their eyes on a spectacular array of lights and holiday displays. Also in attendance, Santa Claus himself, and a few local food and beverage vendors with coffee, hot chocolate, popcorn, cookies and more!

Holiday magic returns to the railroad museum with more lights and more action. The museum transforms into a winter wonderland. Over 25,000 lights glisten and sparkel as well as musical animations and twilight model train displays. Santa is also on hand with goodies and cider.

Celebrate the holidays coastal-style at the NC Holiday Flotilla. This celebration kicks off Friday night with the Tree Lighting ceremony. The fun continues Saturday with the Festival in the Park and the Flotilla begins at 6:00 pm followed by a spectacular fireworks show.

The Wrightsville Beach Museum of History invites you to participate in the 5K Jingle Bell Run. This celebratory holiday event, encourages race participants and spectators to dress in holiday apparel (i.e. Santa costumes, antlers, snowmen, etc.). The Annual Dolphin Dip Extravaganza in Surf City, NC, proceeds benefit Share the Table. The event features thousands of folks braving the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean, plus a costume contest, and more.

Join in as the Fort Fisher State Historic Site is brought to life with their 155th Anniversary of the Battle of Fort Fisher event. This event will focus on the stories of the men during the afternoon of January 15, 1865. Infantry re-enactors will be on hand to talk with visitors about camp life and garrison duty as well as conduct the manual of arms, drills and firing demonstrations including the site's rifled and banded 32 pound cannon and the bronze 12 pound cannon. On hand will be Harry Taylor, a local photographer who will be using his 1860's wet-plate photography studio to take photographs for visitors. Please see website for more details.

Art for All, a unique and creative art show! This is downtown's cutting edge art show at the Brooklyn Arts Center. This market place will feature local and original art work, a raffle, a courtyard vender tent, food trucks and more. All art work will be under $500.

Experience marathon madness at the beach with the Annual Wrightsville Beach Marathon, a winner of the Southeast Tourism Top 20 events! Get ready for the annual fat tire bike race on beautiful Wrightsville Beach! The US Open Fat Tire Cross Beach Championship will consist of a large lap which will take racers from the thick sand to the hard packed sand along the water's edge. There are three Categories: The Fat (12+ miles), The Really Fat (18+ miles), and the Super Fat (24+ miles). While all bikes are allowed to race, bikes with tires over 4” wide are recommended.
