One of our best campground stays yet. Full of friendly, warm service. We arrived a little late yet they stay and wait for the evening guests to arrive before closing their store. We had food but ended up getting the local cheeses, pizza, beer, and ice cream which were delicious! Wish more KOA’s would catch on. And loved the super clean rain showers and tile sinks.

We stayed just for night on our way to Mount Rushmore. This was one of the quietest, best kept KOAs we’ve stayed. We didn’t use the bathrooms much, but they were very clean and the walls and sinks were beautiful and unique for a campground. We wouldn’t have been upset if we needed to stay another night.

Very nice campground! Quiet too! They have a nice assortment of local cheese, meat sticks, wine and ice cream! The ones I bought were excellent. Nice to see them supporting local people. Would stay again when going thru SD.

The loop system is a little ‘interesting’, but works out in the end. Nice place to stay.

Upon arrival impressive when checking in they offered us an upgrade to the new patio area. Just barley opened, each site has very nice furniture and a solo stove fireplace very upgraded and nice, campground is very clean they have a variety of local products for sale. Very very nice koa

We have stayed here several times and it has always been a pleasant experience. The campground is in tip-top condition. We will probably stay again in the future.

This is definitely the best KOA we have been to. The staff was great and the facilities were very clean. I wished we had more time to stay longer. Definitely would stay here again!!!

We always stay here when we are coming and going through this area, it is now under new ownership and they are doing a great job keeping the KOA every bit as nice as the past owners did.

Nice shady campground. Check in was very easy and the girl at check in was very sweet. The store is well stocked and the bathroom was clean. I thought it was great they have storm shelters in case of a tornado.

This is probably our most favorite KOA. People are so nice and helpful. The park is super clean. We will definitely stop here on our way back home.

The camp hosts were awesome, great store and location. Everyone was so friendly and kept the place very clean. The local beer, meat and cheese in the store was also a great addition. We will stop by again one day.

We only stayed one night but our stay was very pleasant. The sites were shaded by trees and each had picnic tables and fire rings. The staff were extremely welcoming. Their store carried local meats, cheeses, beer, wine and ice cream! Definitely a place we will stay again.

The bathrooms were immaculate and very trendy in decor; even had a rain shower style showerhead. Patio, gas grill and dishwashing station were also immaculate. These are by far the cleanest camp facilities we’ve ever seen.

The cleanest and nicest KOA we’ve ever stayed at. The staff were extremely friendly. Close to interstate but far enough that you don’t get highway noise. Great stay. We will be back.

Somebody threw fireworks at/ under our camper at 11:45pm while my family was sleeping. I'm sure it was a stupid prank, but I did not feel safe as a result.

Mitchell KOA rocks! It has been the perfect stop for our east and westbound journeys since 2017. Several nice, long patio sites have recently been constructed, and the length of each site is now available on the website, very helpful. It was a pleasure meeting Syver this trip. He was very helpful, knowledgeable, and pleasant. See you next year!

Best koa bathrooms I've ever seen. Campground is well run with a dedicated staff. This place is so much better than other local options as we had tried another campground prior to coming here. The other place was like a hick block party with drunk individuals setting off fire works. We loved our time at Mitchell koa and would recommend them to anyone as they have great shaded spots for tents and have good roads for RVs.

Update June 2026: it is still an excellent stop. Easy access, check-in and helpful and friendly staff. Also, under new management, who are spritzing up the grounds and facilities. The restroom was meticulous. Plenty of shade for those hot South Dakota summer days. Be sure to check out the Corn Palace.
