Big Upgrades Underway at Jacksonville North / St. Marys KOA Holiday

If you have stayed with us at Jacksonville North / St. Marys KOA Holiday over the past few years, there is a good chance you filled out a survey, left a review, or mentioned something to the front desk on your way out. We read every one of them. This year we are finally acting on the biggest items from that list, all at once, in one large utility upgrade across our campground in Kingsland, Georgia.

This post is our way of keeping you in the loop on what is happening, what it means for your stay, and why we think it will be worth it.

What we are upgrading

The short version: we are rebuilding the plumbing and power that run under the park. That is not a glamorous thing to spend money on, but it is the thing you notice most when you plug in and hook up. Here is what the project covers.

  • City water and sewer. We are connecting the campground to municipal water and sewer service.
  • More full hookup sites. More than twenty of our water and electric sites are getting sewer at the site, which turns them into full hookup sites. All sites will now be full hookups with water, sewer, and electric.
  • Updated electrical pedestals on all sites. New and more reliable electrical for all types of RV's and campers.

Once it is done, more of our guests will be able to book the kind of site they have been asking us for.

Why now, and why all at once

Almost every piece of this project traces back to something a guest told us. More full hookups. 50 amp for the big fifth wheels and Class As. Sites that are ready for the way people camp today. We heard the same requests often enough that we stopped treating them as a wish list and started treating them as a plan.

A project like this touches nearly every road and loop in the park. We could have spread it out over several years and dug up a little bit at a time. Instead we decided to do it once, do it right, and get it behind us. That means a busier campground for a while, and a much better one when the crews pull out.

Is the campground open during construction?

Yes. Jacksonville North / St. Marys KOA Holiday is open and taking reservations throughout the project. The pool, the restaurant, the breakfast, mini golf, the KampK9 dog park, the cabins, and the Kontainer Suite are all operating as usual. Cumberland Island, historic St. Marys, and the beaches at Amelia Island are still the same easy drive away.

What changes is that some sites in a given section may be temporarily unavailable while the crew is working there. We plan site assignments around the construction schedule, and if the work affects the site on your reservation, we will reach out ahead of time to move you to a comparable spot.

What to expect during your stay

We want to be straight with you about what a work in progress looks like.

  • Crews and equipment. You will see contractors, trucks, and machinery in parts of the park, mostly during daytime hours.
  • Marked off areas. Some sections will be roped, coned, or fenced while work is underway. Please keep kids, pets, and vehicles clear of those areas and follow any signs or directions from our staff.
  • Occasional short interruptions. Tying in new lines sometimes means a brief, planned pause in water or power for a section of the park. We will give as much notice as we can.
  • A different route now and then. A road or loop may be closed for a day, so you may take a slightly longer way around to your site.

If any of this matters for your rig or your plans, call the office before you arrive. We are happy to talk through which areas are active that week and put you somewhere quiet. If you have questions once you are here, come see us. We would rather hear about it than have you go home wondering.

Thank you for your patience

Nobody books a campground hoping to see a backhoe out the window. We know that. We are asking for a little grace while we get through this, and we are grateful to every guest who has already been understanding about it this season.

The whole point of this project is your next stay. The one after that, too. When you come back and pull into a full hookup site with 50 amp service, we hope you will feel like the wait was worth it.

Thank you for camping with us, for the honest feedback over the years, and for sticking with us while we put it to work. We will keep posting updates as the project moves along.
