We were greeted very warmly and Tim worked with us to find the right site as our original assigned spot was a bit too steep for our large RV. Wonderful amenities and a peaceful campground close to area attractions but far enough off the beaten path to offer some peace and quiet, especially from the Sturgis crowds. We really enjoyed our stay here!

Wow! The team at Hills City KOA rock! This was the best motorcycle camping experience ever!! Steve, Melissa, Tim, Wendy, Julid and Kathy were incredible. Their friendliness and responsiveness was outstanding. Thank you for making my trip to the Black Hills so special!!

The managers were absolutely incredible. As a single female traveling alone, they were so helpful and I never doubted my safety at this KOA. It was clean and the location was perfect. I hope to be back again in the future!

The campground was the perfect place for our stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our Grandkids enjoyed all the fun things there was to do. Bathrooms and shower were well kept. Campsites were spaced very well. WE enjoyed our stay!

We stayed here for 7 days. This park is amazing. Beautiful scenery and nice spaces. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They delivered firewood and bags of ice in a matter of minutes. The pool was great. We'll definitely stay here again.

We stayed 5 days at the Hill City location. There were a couple of days with hard rain and winds. We had no problems. However not everyone was that lucky. Some people had tents mangled and collapsed. The gravel pathways to the tent sites had a lot of ruts and washed out gravel. The staff were on top of things and helped campers and promptly worked to clean up the ruts and washed out gravel.

The staff were very friendly and courteous, my campsites were perfect and the restrooms/showers were very clean. I will be coming back to stay at this KOA Kampground!

We had a wonderful time, not just because of the incredible SD scenery, but the managers and staff were so friendly and helpful, with tips where to go. Take the time to talk with them, really great people and a great campsite for kids!

It was a very scenic campground, kept very clean and organized. All of the staff was very helpful and had lots of advice and tips. It’s close to everything we like to do. We’ve been coming to the Custer State Park area off and on since 1992. The scenery is amazing, the hiking trails are well maintained and the trout fishing is great. We would definitely recommend this KOA to anyone visiting SD

Great stay! The park was centrally located and in a beautiful setting. Grounds were well cared for and everything was clean. Staff was incredible! From the front desk and store staff, to the groundskeepers and maintenance, we thoroughly enjoyed every interaction. 10/10 recommend.

2nd time we have stayed at Horsethief, albeit 10 years apart. Couldn't get a 50 amp spot but the 30 amp worked with the cool weather. All the people working there were extremely helpful and pleasant.

The campground was in a perfect location for all the areas attractions, and the sites were nicely arranged to ensure you had enough privacy. The amenities were excellent and the staff were very friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

We usually boondock because some bad experiences at crowded,sardine packed campgrounds. We opted to stay here for location and things for our kids to do when not out and about.

Very quiet. Clean bathrooms. Kids enjoyed jumping pad & playground. Wish pool was a bit bigger. It was a bit crowded each time we went.

We usually stay at state campgrounds but could not get into Custer as it was full. When we found this campground online and talked to Treva, she was very helpful. We stayed for six nights in site 32. The bathrooms were extremely clean anns anll the staff very friend.Our site was very much like being in a state campground regarding the size and our view. And we loved walking around the property.

The staff were 5star. The cottage was clean and enjoyable. Pots and pans were not usable. Non stick was peeling . Also no WiFi and no tv. Otherwise we had a ball! Thanks again for a great stay!

This was a great KOA. The campground was beautiful, and the bathrooms were clean. The people running everything were so nice and helpful. They knew we wanted to do some laundry but the washers and dryers were being used. They came to our cabin to let us know that one of the washers would be open in 10 minutes. That was so nice. Just good people.

Our stay at the Hill City / Needles KOA was great! The Hosts Wendy and Tim (I believe that was their names) were awesome; we had some troubles with power and our sewer hose when we arrived, and they jumped on the issues and got everything corrected in a speedy manner. They did everything they could do to make us feel welcome even talk college football with rivals.

The campground is in an excellent location to multiple attractions, Michelson bike trail, Custer, Mount Rushmore, Sylvan lake, needles hwy. hill city is less than ten minutes if you need coffee shop. . Campground is very well kept and clean. Cleanest bathrooms. Had a bit of a mix up on arrival but staff were great in correcting.

This is the best KOA we have stayed at. The campsites higher up the hill (81-83) are awesome and the staff is super nice. Highly recommendable.

We loved how quaint and cozy it felt and how close it was to so many good things! We loved how tent campsites didn’t feel like they were on top of each other and we enjoyed being in the trees. The staff was amazing, friendly, and very helpful. We loved it here! We hope you never change. We want to come back!

The only thing that I wish was better was the WiFi. It is better than what it was but it was difficult to stay connected to it to keep up with work emails etc. The staff was friendly & the campground was clean. We had a pleasant stay !! Thank you.

Friendly staff, clean and quiet. Only concern is that the exit road in front of the pull-through sites needs to be widened. If the guy next to me had not left before me, I would not have had enough room to swing my 35' trailer and long bed crew cab truck around him to get out.

Thought this was a "new" KOA, not an old campground now a KOA. The old Horse Thief was disappointing to say the least. Site was very unlevel. Was impossible to get within 4" of level, very disappointing. Restroom & showers were adequate except extremely cold when it was cold and raining outside. My fault for not being more diligent before making this booking. Saw much better options in area!
