Navigating Fort Collins' Bike-Friendly Culture

Navigating Fort Collins' Bike-Friendly Culture

If biking is your favorite way to exercise, spend time outside or explore fun cities, then Fort Collins is the place to visit. Fort Collins is a Platinum-rated Bicycle Friendly Community with hundreds of miles of well-maintained dedicated bike lanes, providing ample opportunity to enjoy a safe, comfortable bike ride around town. Here are four bikeways you will want to make sure you explore.

1. Centre Bikeway

The Centre Bikeway extends about eight miles between the north and south ends of Fort Collins, connecting trails such as Fossil Creek to Poudre. You can also access the bikeway from nearby Loveland by going north along the Long View Trail.

This bikeway will give you access to several beautiful parks and natural areas. It also crosses through Colorado State University for gorgeous views of the university's architecture and landscaping.

2. Remington Bikeway

Another eight-mile route that travels between the south and north ends of Forth Collins is the Remington Bikeway. Dedicated bike lanes throughout the entire bikeway provide safe ways to get to parks, businesses, schools, trails and other parts of town.

The Remington Bikeway also features a unique bike counter that tracks how many bicyclists have rode by during the day and throughout the year. Be sure to pass by Lake Street to see the counter yourself.

3. Pitkin Bikeway

The Pitkin Bikeway is the first advisory bike lane in Fort Collins. An advisory bike lane is designed to keep bicyclists and motorists safer on narrow roads by granting bicyclists the right of way.

When you ride on the Pitkin Bikeway, you can safely and easily travel along five miles of peaceful streets that connect you to various parks and trails, as well as the university and MAX bus rapid transit.

4. Swallow Bikeway

The Swallow Bikeway is about a five-mile route that travels east to west along low-stress streets. It features dedicated bike lanes the entire way to improve safety and convenience.

Taking this bikeway will give you access to four of Fort Collins' bike trails, including Mason, Spring Creek, Rendezvous and Power. It also takes you to convenient parts of town, such as the Foothills Mall and the MAX bus rapid transit.
