Reserving a year in advance

Reserving a year in advance

How Our Advance Reservation System Works at KOA Canandaigua

“How did someone already book my favorite site? I thought you could only make reservations one year in advance!”

We hear this question from time to time, so we wanted to explain exactly how our advance reservation system works at KOA Canandaigua.

The short answer is: we don’t open reservations one day at a time exactly one year in advance.

Instead, we open large portions of the following year’s calendar four times during the camping season.

Because of this, there are times when you can make a reservation more than one year in advance!

When Do We Open the Following Year’s Calendar?

We open additional dates for the following camping season four times each year:

The Monday after Memorial Day weekend
The Monday after Fourth of July weekend
The Monday after Labor Day weekend
The Monday after Columbus Day weekend

Each time, we release another section of the following year’s calendar.

Memorial Day

Campers staying with us for Memorial Day weekend get first dibs on rebooking the same site they’re currently camping on for Memorial Day weekend the following year.

On the Monday, Memorial Day, we open the calendar to everyone through the following year’s Fourth of July period.

Fourth of July

Campers staying with us for Fourth of July weekend have the holiday weekend to rebook the same site they’re currently on for the following year’s Fourth of July weekend.

On the Monday after Fourth of July weekend, we open the calendar to everyone through the following year’s Labor Day period.

This is an important one to remember!

If you have a favorite site that you like to camp on in July or August, another camper may reserve it when this block of dates opens—even though their trip is more than a year away.

Labor Day

Campers staying with us for Labor Day weekend have the holiday weekend to rebook the same site they’re currently on for the following year’s Labor Day weekend.

On the Monday after Labor Day, we open the calendar to everyone through Columbus Day weekend of the following year.

Columbus Day

Columbus Day weekend is our fourth and final holiday booking period.

Campers staying with us that weekend have the opportunity to rebook the same site for Columbus Day weekend the following year.

Then, on the Monday after Columbus Day, we release the remainder of the following year’s camping calendar.

At that point, the entire following season is available to reserve!

Why Do We Do It This Way?

You may be wondering why we don’t simply open each date exactly 365 days in advance.

Opening and managing the following year’s calendar takes quite a bit of work behind the scenes. Rather than updating the reservation calendar every single day, we do it four times per year in larger blocks.

This gives our current holiday campers an opportunity to return to the same site the following year while also allowing everyone else to plan their camping trips well in advance.

Why Booking Early Matters

This system is especially important if you have a favorite campsite.

For example, you may want your favorite site for an August camping trip and think:

“I’ll wait until next August because reservations only open one year ahead.”

But that’s not how our calendar works!

Those August dates may have already opened for reservations on the Monday after Fourth of July the previous year. Another camper could have reserved that site more than a year ahead.

So if there’s a particular weekend or site that’s important to you, don’t wait for the exact one-year mark.

Where Are We Right Now?

We are currently accepting reservations for ALL of the 2027 camping season!

Our campground season runs April 1 through November 1, and all available 2027 dates can be reserved now.

Our 2027 seasonal sites are currently full, but we do offer monthly options for campers interested in longer-term stays, based on availability.

We have also already opened April and May 2028 up to Memorial Day weekend for reservations.

So yes—you really can book part of your 2028 camping season right now!

One Last Tip From Us

If you love a particular campsite or know there’s a weekend you don’t want to miss, book early!

Don’t assume you have to wait until exactly one year before your trip. Watch for our four calendar-opening dates after Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Columbus Day.

And remember, campers staying with us during those four holiday weekends receive the first opportunity to rebook the same site for that holiday weekend the following year before those dates are released to everyone else.  We also forfeit the select my site option only for campers staying with us on the Holiday weekend.  IF you only want a specific site number or camping cabin please use the "select my site" option to lock in your favorite site.

We hope this clears up some of the confusion and makes planning your future camping trips a little easier!

As always, if you’re unsure whether your dates are available, give us a call. We’re happy to help you plan ahead.

Happy Camping!
