There are a lot of things I love about owning a campground, but if I had to pick one weekend that truly captures what camping is all about, it would be the Fourth of July.
It's not because of the decorations, the activities, or even the incredible food (although I'm pretty excited about those too). It's because this is the weekend when our campground feels less like a business and more like a neighborhood.
Families who've camped with us for years reconnect with friends they only see once every summer. Kids disappear from their campsites in the morning and somehow end up with a dozen new best friends by lunchtime. Campfires stay lit a little later, conversations last a little longer, and for a few days, life simply slows down.
This year feels even more meaningful.
As our country begins celebrating America's 250th Anniversary, I've found myself thinking about what has always made camping so uniquely American. It's not just about traveling or taking a vacation. It's about spending time together. It's about putting down the phone, pulling up a camp chair, and making memories that your family will still be talking about years from now.
That's exactly the kind of weekend we're hoping to create here at Brigham City / Perry South KOA Journey from July 2–5.
When you arrive, you'll notice the campground dressed in red, white, and blue. Kids will be racing toward the bounce house before their parents have finished setting up camp. The pool will be full of laughter. The playground will be busy from morning until dusk, and our Mining Sluice will be helping young treasure hunters discover their next "great find."
One of my favorite sights every year is watching our barrel train wind its way through the campground. It's amazing how something so simple can create such big smiles—not just for the kids riding it, but for the parents and grandparents watching from the sidelines with cameras in hand.
Those are the moments that remind me why we do this.
We've also been working hard in our NEW Fireside Café to make your holiday weekend even more relaxing. Instead of spending your evening cooking over the fire if you don't want to, we'll bring dinner right to your campsite. My hope is that means a little more time spent playing cards around the picnic table, visiting with neighbors, or simply enjoying another beautiful Utah sunset.
Of course, no summer evening at our campground would be complete without our nightly All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream Social. It's become one of those traditions that guests tell us they look forward to all year long. There's just something about sharing an ice cream cone with family after a day of swimming that feels like summer.
This year we're adding another classic American tradition.
To celebrate America's 250th Anniversary, we'll be serving hand-scooped Root Beer Floats for just $2.50 each evening. Root beer floats have always reminded me of simpler times, and they seem like the perfect way to celebrate this incredible milestone in our nation's history.
One event that is especially close to our hearts is our Care Camps Silent Auction. If you've stayed with us before, you know how passionate we are about supporting Care Camps, an organization that gives children battling cancer the opportunity to experience the joy of camp. Every bid placed throughout the weekend helps make that possible, and I'm continually humbled by the generosity of our camping community.
When James and I purchased this campground, we dreamed about creating more than just a place to park an RV or rent a cabin. We wanted to build a place where families could reconnect, where traditions could begin, and where every guest would feel genuinely welcomed.
Every improvement we've made—from adding our heated pool and expanding family activities to opening the Fireside Café—has been guided by one simple question:
"Will this help families make better memories together?"
That's what this weekend is really about.
Yes, there will be pancakes in the morning, ice cream in the evening, kids running from one activity to the next, and plenty of laughter echoing throughout the campground. But more importantly, there will be grandparents teaching grandchildren how to build the perfect campfire. Parents putting work aside for a few days to simply be present. Friends reconnecting after another year has gone by.
Those moments don't show up on an activities schedule, but they're the ones that matter most.
If you've already reserved your stay with us, thank you. We truly appreciate you choosing to spend your holiday weekend with our family.
And if you're still deciding where to celebrate the Fourth of July, we'd love to welcome you.
Come celebrate America's 250th Anniversary with us. Bring your family, your camp chairs, your patriotic spirit, and maybe a healthy appetite for pancakes, barbecue, ice cream... and of course, a root beer float.
From our family to yours, we can't wait to celebrate with you.
See you around the campfire,
Kristan & James Settlemire

That doesn't mean this area has to always be empty. When you start reviewing camping options, your history will display here to help compare sites and find the best stay. You will be able to share your stay information with friends or family and save it for a later time if you have a KOA Account.
