There is so much to see and taste in the Southern Vermont Area. From breweries, wineries, and award winning cheese makers, your taste buds will be happy after this day trip. Brattleboro North KOA is the perfect central location for all your adventures so make sure to book with us in either an RV site or one of our many accommodations. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the names and addresses of all the businesses listed in this blog post.
We will start our day at The Putney Diner. A family run diner that is a local favorite. They partner with local farms across Vermont to source fresh, high quality ingredients. Stop by here for brunch to fuel up for the day. Our favorites are the Cinnamon Challah French Toast and the Chicken Caesar Wrap with onion rings.
First stop is the Putney Mountain Winery and Spirits. Here you will find delicious fruit wines which you can taste and watch being made through large observation windows. They make their wines and liqueurs with ingredients grown on local and regional family farms and each fruit is sourced not only for its culinary characteristics, but also with an eye to environmental sustainability. Their winery is also 100% solar powered! Our favorites here are the Blueberry and Rhubarb wines.
Next stop is Grafton Village Cheese, this award winning Cheese maker, has everything from delicious cheddars to cave cheeses and cheese dips. There truly is a cheese for everyone here. They also sell lots of delicious pairings or they can even help you pick out everything for the perfect gift basket. Our favorite here is the Reserve Cheddar and we love to pair it with Putney Mountain Winery’s Blueberry wine.
Now it's time to move on to a brewery called Hermit Thrush Brewery for some great sour beers made with wild yeast. You can enjoy their beers in their indoor or outdoor taprooms. They are pet friendly and welcome dogs if they are leashed and well behaved (i.e. other dog and kid friendly) They also have a limited food menu. Our favorite here is Brattleberry Sour golden ale aged in an oak foudre for 18 months with Dutton Farm (VT) raspberries and apples.
We end our day at Whetstone Beer Co. Located on the Connecticut river you can enjoy one of their many beers on tap as well as have a meal or snack. Have your furry friend with you? They do have a few picnic tables outside you can use. Our Favorites here are the Whetstoner and their Brewers Pretzel.
We hope you get to visit us and enjoy this amazing day trip. Stay tuned on our blog for even more day trips here in Southern Vermont.
