Campground Reviews

First day the pool was not available & it was very hot. The site we were in was not level. After all that it was a nice stay, once my grandkids could go swimming.

There were skunks that ran all around the park every night - including under our trailer. The bathrooms were dingy and hot. The pool was incredibly murky; we were there all week and it never got better. The staff was rude at simple requests on several occasions, including closing the store 10 minutes early and refusing to allow purchases before the posted closing time. The RV spots were not level

Skunk problem needs to be taken care of.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you for visiting us. Our local Skunk population that lives in the nearby forest along the river can be active in the evening. We encourage our guests to not leave Food Outside at night, they can attract them to your site. We hope you can visit again!

We had a great time! Would love to stay there again. The staff were all so friendly

Assigned to what could have been an exceptional site. Disappointed that kids electric motor bike are allowed, which took away the peacefulness of the location.

We came for a large family reunion, due to diesel prices had to change from an rv site to a cabin(ended up in a micro mini cabin). I don’t feel the price they(KOA) charges is worth the space. We paid $100+ due to veterans and group discounts. Our cabin needs to have the ceiling cleaned. I’m not sure much of any of this can be blamed on being short staffed or covid.

Wifi is too weak to reach even the closes sites. Trees need pruning so tall rv with slides fit. Power pods are placed too close to the rear of the site and tree limbs makes parking difficult for longer rigs. Also the last day there was a electric pod fire that took an entire loop out. Other than that it’s ok.

My stay started off rough when two different sleeper cabins they assigned to me weren't cleaned. The staff corrected that asap. The bed was a little hard, a topper or better mattress would have been great. I had issue with wifi working properly ( I have to use for work) It was quite, senic & the store had everything you could need for a stay, except for ice. Staff was great, very friendly!

I drive a 38 foot motorhome, the spots are somewhat narrow and short. I know this park was built a long time ago, but if KOA wants to attract the higher end travelers maybe consider a restructuring of the park layout. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. You can't beat the beautiful setting that surrounds the park.

Staff was super friendly, site was clean, no problem hooking up. The water turned off for awhile unexpectedly before departure. A nice office with gift shop, pinball, old school video games and pool table. The pool was closed for cleaning (was pretty cloudy). Nice stay overall. Golf and golf carts for use, not sure if the fee schedule for those.

Beautiful campground, friendly staff, great store, but a few disappointments: 1) Pool was closed one day for shocking the water 2) Hot Tub had only cold water 3) Showers were 5/10 stars: barely warm water with ancient shower heads 4) All campground water turned off 1/2 day for repairs. Even so, we managed to enjoy our stay...

Lovely park. We liked the space we had #410 because it felt spacious and had the shade of a tree. Pretty sure that we would not have had the same experience or enjoyed the too cramped spaces near the office. Initial concern about road noise was unwarranted as it wasn't bad through the night. Much thanks to management for fixing the water issue in good speed.

Wish we were in a shady spot not #61. We wrote down site numbers to request in the future and will call directly to this KOA rather than online.

We highly recommend the Benbow KOA ………. easy access from US 101 in the heart of northern California’s redwoods.

The campgrounds themselves were actually pretty nice. I stayed in a premium cabin. Full bath with shower, A/C, nice patio on the back viewing the creek, plenty of room for family of four and dog. I was told as a guest golf was free to walk and $10 for a cart. They actually charged $15 for the cart and $20 for 9 holes. You can't putt on the "greens" and only holes 1&9 were well maintained.

Ratings would have been much higher until the last morning when both of our kids got extremely sick. Then the cabin next to us (that we didn’t know at all) had the same thing. Plus another family we meet on our last full day their daughter got sick. And 2 of our friends that we meet up there intentionally got sick. All in the night. All vomiting. Location and cabin were awesome.

It’s just too bad the pool isn’t larger because not much room for adults without kids.

Very welcoming, comfortable and well laid out. Views of stream and golf course. Far enough away from highway so no traffic noise.

Sites small for price. Tight to get into
Jul 22, 2022
Our site was full of stickers , flies and mosquitos. No wifi ! Doggie poo bags empty in park . Leaky fire hydrant area causing mess and standing water , they attempted to fix and then used thousands of gallons of water cleaning only for it to happen again . Rude staff ! Golf carts in disrepair. Skunk problem!

The park is badly in need of updating. Sites are narrow and hooking up in a medium size trailer was not easy, our sewer was directly below and just outside the frame of the trailer. The grounds were old not maintained. I was disappointed. Benbow KOA was in my must stay list and it was not worth it. Staff in the store were great!

Clean, friendly staff, Beautiful environment. Only issue very poor cell reception. Again my wife and myself very muck liked the environment.
Jul 20, 2022
Nice easy pull through. Bathrooms/showers were clean (women’s was hotter than hot with no ac). Just an overnight but we would come back. Pool & lodge looked nice and the grounds were well cared for.

Great amenities. Beautiful location next to a creek. It was stocked and cleaned. Disappointed that the bedroom screen door was ripped and hard to open. Couldn’t leave it open for fresh air because bugs could get in. One of the windows in the loft had no screen, so it made difficult to cool the upstairs room. Otherwise great stay.

Excellent as usual. This was our 4th stay over the past decade and this park never disappoints. My grandkids had a blast.

Too many Flies at the site. Internet was horrible and it would be great to know that at the time of booking. There were two great employee's that helped me and we're super friendly and i wish i could remember their names.

Our stay was very pleasant and we really enjoyed the park. Especially nice was the surroundings of green belt and trees for shade. Shout out to Sharon at the front desk who was extremely helpful in finding us a great site. Thanks.

We had a lovely time at KOA. My only issue was there were so many flies we couldn’t hardly eat with them outside OK we’ll see you again
Jul 12, 2022
Campsite was nice and the employees were nice and helpful although the Wi-Fi didn’t work and we had no cell service. But we would stay there again.
Jul 12, 2022
First impression was awful. Vehicles parked along the access road by the office blocked our entrance. Vehicles parked in the roadway by our site made it difficult to get to our site. Children running and screaming made it a challenge to walk our dogs. Other than that, it’s an older, well-maintained RV park. Site wasn’t quite level, but we had decent water pressure and 50 amps.

I love staying here it's easy to get a room and a nice little quiet place to sleep. Hot tub and snacks closes at 6pm but still one of the best places to stay in Garberville

Great spot. Nice facilities, great staff and fun golf course. This place has everything a family could want for a little getaway. The golf course is fun. A bit challenging but fun for all ages. Looking forward to visiting again.

We stayed at the Benbow KOA for spring break 2024. The staff is super helpful and friendly. Check-in was a breeze. Since it was Easter weekend, the campground staff hosted an egg hunt for the kids with an appearance from the Easter Bunny. It was pretty awesome! We stayed in a FHU “comfort” patio site 52, with relatives staying in Tent Site T1, right across the road from our site. The RV site required minimal leveling and all hookups were well maintained. The site included patio furniture and a fire pit. The patio was nice since the grass was muddy from all the winter rain. The showers and bathrooms appeared clean and maintained. The hot tub was open, but it was too early in the season for the pool and splash pad. The laundry room was large and had newer machines. The gift shop had all the essentials for RVers and guests. There is also 2 arcade games, a Star Wars pinball machine and pool table in the lounge area of the front office. They have a small library of books and board games, dice and dominoes to use. The dog park area is on the smaller side, but there are some great pet walk areas around the resort. There is also a small 9 hole golf course next to the KOA. The WiFi was good and able to stream. The cable was not so good due to limited channels and fuzz (could have been my fault). The historic Benbow Inn across the way was a nice surprise with good food options, a full bar and traditional afternoon tea. It's a short walk on a nice path or you can drive there. We were within a few freeway exits of the Avenue of the Giants and a lot of other famous trees and redwood groves in the area. One exit away, in Garberville, there is a supermarket called Ray's Food Place and an awesome Mexican restaurant called El Cora Restaurant. There are fuel options in Garberville as well. I would definitely recommend Benbow KOA to others.
