Most of the time it looks like a boat would be needed to hike on Bar Island.  But twice a day at low tide, a natural bridge appears which leads to  Bar Island, Acadia National Park.  The natural land bridge connects Bar Harbor, at Bridge Street, to Bar Island making it accessible by foot, bikes, and all-terrain or other types of vehicles. To be safe, plan on having no more than 1.5 hours before and after low tide. Otherwise, you could get stuck on the island waiting for the next low tide to return.

The course is a spectacular 13.1 mile route that travels on the scenic Acadia National Park Loop road. Featuring gorgeous views of Acadia National Park and Maine's rocky coastline. The Acadia Festival of Traditional Music and Dance is a week long summer celebration of Acadian, Cape Breton, Irish, Quebecois, Scottish, and other Celtic-influenced traditions that contribute to the vibrant culture and authentic character of Downeast Maine.

Start Independence Day off with blueberry pancakes, followed by an old-fashioned hometown parade. Directly following the parade, the Seafood Festival takes place at the athletic field on the corner of Park and Main. Thousands of people will attend, and hundreds of pounds of lobster, corn-on-the-cob and mussels will be prepared to perfection.

The annual Harbor House Flamingo Festival is whimsical, lighthearted and decidedly pink, this fun filled family festival truly has something for everyone. Flamingos will be available to purchase at Harbor House.

The Maine Wild Blueberry Festival at Union Fair was born in 1960 to promote Maine's wild blueberry season generally runs from late July through early September with the official Wild Blueberry Weekend typically held in the first weekend of August to celebrate the harvest. You can find fresh wild blueberries at this time in farmers' markets, roadside stands, and participating farms. Grab a piece of pie and some blueberries while exploring everything Maine has to offer.

As the premier arts and culture destination in Central Maine, the Downtown Bangor Partnership seeks to highlight the artists and arts organizations located in the Bangor Region. Visitors are encouraged to stroll the streets of the entire Downtown to take gardens and permanent statues and visit the numerous galleries, shops and restaurants and explore the many art studios located Downtown as well as businesses and galleries that host arts for locally made artists!
