August brings the thick of summer to Western North Carolina, with warm days, mountain music, outdoor festivals, and plenty of ways to explore beyond Asheville.
Camper Tip: August is warm, but if you head up the parkway, you’ll experience a much cooler climate, often up to 10 degrees cooler! That makes August a great time to cruise the parkway. Plus, Mount Mitchell is open again after an extended closure post-Hurricane Helene. Mount Mitchell is the highest peak east of the Mississippi, and you can summit it by climbing a short .25 mile paved trail.
